  1. We are booked on the January 5th 42 day cruise from tilbury. We are from Bristol and as ambassador are not putting on a coach to tilbury we will need to book a taxi.

Anyone else from this area going and want to share the ride to and from?

Also ....any ideas for cruise insurance prices?

  2. Just got assignment for Canada to Ft. Lauderdale 14 day cruise

Was assigned cabin 521. I am happy that it is midship and will

have no balcony to our left. I was worried about possibility of smokers on both sides so this is good. However will there be noise from the

elevator? I have written to my TA for info. I wonder if there will be any upsell offers? Will the TA left me know? I am using the agency that works with Seabourn Cadence. If you are on a cruise now could you ask someone by the elevators if it is an issue? I know that is asking a lot.

    :o

No noise from elevator at all & hopefully no smoke from your only neighbour.

    Enjoy.

  3. ...by the way I meant anywhere in the Observation lounge...sorry if I didn't make that clear and caused confusion...anyway we have been assured that smoking is definitely only allowed in the Observation lounge after 8pm and if we see anyone smoking there outside this time we should report it to the staff immediately.

  4. OK...here's the latest...Have met with the GSM and he's adament that smoking is only allowed after 8pm.

He will now be meeting with the Obervation Lounge staff to make sure that smoking is NOT permitted before 8pm.

It's strange though because the OL staff member did say that he was told that the policy was now to allow smoking at any time. He hated it!!

Helen & I will keep you informed. It was after all one single lady that seemed to think it ok to 'light up'

  5. Joined the ship yesterday for a 14 day fiords cruise.

Helen & I looked forward to Sunday afternoon tea in the observation lounge only to find smokers & they're now allowed at all times in any area!!! Horrible.

Last SB cruise until policy is changed...but assured by 'higher up' that those changes may be coming soon...can only hope.

  6. BG,

It takes about 30 or 40 minutes maximum from the airport to the cruise terminal Seabourn used last summer when we joined Quest for the cruise to St. Petersburg.

I hope you have a terrific cruise!

See you on another Seabourn cruise, for sure.

    Happy sailing!

    Thanks Markham

We look forward to meeting up again...hopefully SB will have sorted out the smoking problem.

    Hugs & kisses from Helen.

    Regards

    V

  7. We are on an upcoming 21 day summer med cruise. I hope the MDR U.S. Open for a la carte lunch. Ant experiences? What is the likelihood of it being open. We don't care for buffets.

Is caviar still ordered freely on the ship?

Have never experienced any Ants on board :D ...plenty of smokers though!!

  8. We are looking at a 14 Day Fjords & North Cape cruise at the end of June & early July from & to Copenhagen.

Any feedback to the approximate temperatures & likely weather conditions appreciated from any who have actually been there.

Also as we are "sun lounger types" who enjoy the pool deck life do you think we'll be a bit bored?

    Regards

  9. Having had a VERY bad experience with a balcony chain smoker next door to us we are looking at the suites next to the lifts, example 521, as the space upwind between us and the neighbour is substantial.

Any positive or negative feedback appreciated.

    Regards

  10. Have just returned from a 70 days back-to-back cruise from Cape Town to Singapore on the Sojourn.

This is our main complaint: We booked a V2 veranda suite so we could enjoy port day sail in & sail out views without always having to go to the upper decks.

The lady next door and upwind of us chained smoked most days from 7am until 6pm and left a pile of butt ends in the ashtray on her balcony table.

Of the 70 days we could only enjoy a smoke-free balcony view about 3 times!!

We feel cheated that the product we purchased was not the one we should have enjoyed due to the action of one other person. Other passengers also "downwind" were also inconvenienced.

Until SB change the smoking policy and let's not hold our breath (no pun intended) here's a suggestion:

On every port day there will be a 2 hour before & after balcony non-smoking policy on sail in/out days...to be reported to Guest Services if this is abused.

Not a problem on sea days as many like us are out of their suites but really SB this should be changed to no-smoking on ALL balconies NOW as it really is a Health & Safety issue...a fire on board is the last thing that any cruise line wants.

Maybe like many airports let smokers have a dedicated room somewhere where they can abuse their lungs and not the lungs of non smokers!!

    Comments?

  11. Yes, I have completed mine - more UK departures please!

    Hi Island Sun

We're from Bristol as well, near Henbury Golf Club...hence BristolGolfer!!

Good to know that there are other SB lovers in the area.

My wife Helen's just completed the survey and like other would like to see more South American trip perhaps taking in Galapagos & Matchu Pitchu...obviously as side trips unless the tide was very high in Peru for MP!!

  12. Our first SB cruise was 7 days and we loved every moment of it. The second was 19 and we loved it even more. Our next will be 29, and is two cruises packaged together, so a BTB. we plan that it will be our best so far [emoji4]

    We agree with CraftyEC.

Our first SB cruise was a Xmas & New Year 14 days in the Carib many years ago.

In Jan 2011 we did the full Sojourn World Cruise...111 days!!

In Jan 2012 we did Quest from Fort Lauderdale via Brazil & Cape Town to finish in Singapore...63 days..the wrong way around the world!!

In Jan 2013 we went from Fort Lauderdale through the Panama canal across the Pacific to Australia finishing in Hong Kong...61 days!!

After a year off from cruising we are now booked in January on the Sojourn from Cape Town to Singapore...70 days!!

So you can see...we love SB & cruising & looking forward to meeting up past cruise friends :)

You can see Helen's blog & my slide shows here: www.blondeonaboat.com

    Enjoy!!

  13. Strange...we find him to be one of Seabourn's 2 best - in terms of visibility, effectiveness, and professionalism. And one of the few with the expertise and confidence to immediately address any issues that arise without hiding behind Seattle. In many respects, we were sorry to see his new corporate responsibilities limit his time on ships.

Although we sailed the maiden voyage on all three big sisters, the Odyssey remains a sentimental favorite for us. The mysterious vibration, when it does happen, is most evident in the stern so you should be fine. And we have the highest level of respect - and genuine fondness - for Captain Dexter. Enjoy!

I'm in agreement with you. VA has always looked after us very well.

I do believe that he will now oversee the build of the new ship in Italy.

  14. I am sorry, but it is now less clear than before.

The first statement in your original email was given as:

no smoking on Verandas on guest suites (Categories V1 or higher including CS and OW).

    The second, corrected statement reads:

smoking IS permitted on verandas and observation lounge after 8pm.

The two are not remotely similar -it does not appear to be a question of not seeing/miissing out a word ortwo.

I apologise for being a pedant, but what did the first statement you quoted actually say?

Secondly, the new statement, as given, would imply that smoking is only permitted on verandas after 8.00 pm.

Again...humble apologies...smoking IS permitted on verandas at any time & after 8pm at the Observation Lounge.

  15. For our upcoming extended voyages we have just downloaded the Preliminary Document & read the 'Non-Smoking Policies'

    Within that paragraph it states:

...no smoking on Verandas on guest suites (Categories V1 or higher including CS and OW)

    Is this new?

    V & H

Apologies to all...have had an aged moment.

Have just re-read the non-smoking policies and "smoking IS permitted on verandas and observation lounge after 8pm"

    Sorry for the misunderstanding.

    V

  16. Well, well, well...

Logic and common sense prevail with this new policy. Cleaner air on all verandas for everyone to enjoy! Who.can.argue.with.that?

BristolGolfer, it will be good to see you again in 2015 as we join in Singapore.

    Happy sailing!

Looking forward to meeting up again.

    V & H

  17. Vince,

What date is your sailing as this will give non smoking sailors something to look forward to.
