I'm guessing the one with holes in is a pickle ball? Are there rules posted there - I think either paddle or pickle looks fun to try. Is there shuffleboard too?

Correct!  I am familiar with the rules… hopefully it will be advertised in the Daily program so there will be others to play with. We may have to use the tennis balls as they may bounce better on the surface. Trial and error!

I have participated in shuffleboard on QV, QE and QM2, so that's definitely there. In good weather there's sometimes a competition advertised in the Daily Programme. In the case of QM2 the location is just before the photo in post 5. I did look for the Pickleball rules around there, but I couldn't see them But having spent a few minutes online reading up the rules, it didn't come across as at all complicated given the basic version is all of 4 paragraphs long.

Thanks for your help and time.  I know the rules as I play 2 to 3 times a week.  I’ve played before on a Princess ship which we had to adapt the rules because of the netting around the court.  I’m keen to play if on board!

Thank you!  Yes that is a pickleball with the holes.  I will bring a couple of extras.  The bats look the same but I might try to squeeze mine in! Much appreciated.  Do they have organised games through the daily program?

I was going to mention this. I think strictly speaking it was paddleball, since the balls looked like tennis balls (green and furry, as a non expert!) rather than the specialist pickle ball. I gather that for paddleball it's a tennis ball modified to reduce the ball's efficiency after being hit by the paddle. So as the saying goes, best to bring your own balls!

Ok thank you.  I think paddle tennis is more popular in the UK than pickleball.  Were the paddles solid like an oversized table tennis bat?  I’ll bring a couple of balls but it will be interesting to see how they bounce on that surface.

I'm on QM2 today, this is the facility there, on deck 13. I'm pretty sure I've seen them both on QE and QV close to the stern.

On QM2 there is a small wooden box on the floor close to the court net with 4 paddles, 3 balls and a hand sanitiser.

Interesting!  Thank you. Can you remember what the ball was like?  The pickle ball is hollow with holes in it and similar size to tennis ball but plastic.  I think the paddle tennis uses similar bats but a different ball. Thanks again for your help.  We will also be on the QM2 in about a month.

    hello,

my husband and i are seriously thinking of booking this cruise. we have sailed with cunard only once before, over 10 years ago -- then the evening dress code required men to wear either a suit or trousers with a sport coat in order to dine in the main dining room. of course, on formal nights a suit (or tux) was required. he is wondering whether a sport coat is required for "non formal " nights. while he is not fond of having to "dress up", he does abide by the dress code. so, will he need to wear a jacket in the evenings (except for the casual buffet, which is not where i would like to dine)?

I believe there is on Queen Anne. We did a bit of the game, which I seem to remember having "Pickleball" written on the paddles.

We're onboard again in 3 weeks. Happy to confirm then if it's before your trip and no one else has.

Thank you! I would appreciate that.

  7. We will soon be going on all four Queens which we are really looking forward to.  Does anyone know whether there are any pickleball courts on any of the 4 Queens?  I love my pickleball and will pack my paddle if it can be used but don’t want to take up some of my very limited baggage weight if it can’t be used!  Any info appreciated. Thank you

Storm does not fill a river - rain does :-). But although you might not like the weather in Prague right now, that is exactly the region, which needs rain to fill the Elbe for your cruise. And from the data I see, the Elbe is looking much better than last week. So, while not being a Viking captain, I dare the forecast that sailings should be possible next week.

That’s good news.  Raining here in Prague now.  We are happy for rain as it’s been so hot! We board our cruise today and we’re told yesterday enough water for the first 3 days so fingers crossed for after that. Thanks for your report.  I think the boat needs a minimum of 75 for passage.

Brief news: the wave of water that I reported about yesterday has reached Dresden nicely, level there now at 141cm. Already on the way down, though. Still, better than it had been in the previous days. Hope Viking can make it work.

Let’s hope so… we had a storm tonight in Prague.

  10. Does anyone know if there is any compensation for not river cruising due to lack of water?  I’m not that fussed on being bussed around for the price that we have paid.  We are due to go on the Elbe next week.  We had rain yesterday and this morning in Prague but not sure it will make any difference.  Very disappointed!

There was a documentary on the Antarctic Cruise on Roald Amundsen on Discovery plus channel (in the UK) broadcast in Jan 2021.  It also appears to be on Amazon Prime Video.

Do a search for "mighty cruise ships roald amundsen"

Thank you…. I’ll check it out.

  12. I just booked this cruise with the hope that it will proceed.... if not will transfer to 2023.  Anyone else booked?  I am in Australia so have to wait for international flights to come back online before I can tick that one off. Any other tips or hints greatly appreciated....

I do not know about the status levels on P&O UK. On P&O Aust it is simple - there are no status levels. However, they use passengers' Captain's Circle histories to select a small number of the most travelled guests to a cocktail party, along with guests in suites. BTW, this is a pretty good cocktail party😁.

Thanks for that.... I was curious about Cunard as it is owned by Carnival....

Great thanks for that.... I definitely would not be happy if it was set up like the second or last photo.  Annoyingly no-one can tell me what the configuration is for the cabins that we are looking at.  I think we are just going to take pot luck and deal with it at the time.  Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

  15. We are a family group of 17 trying to book a cruise to the islands in September.  My dilemma is I can’t find out what the layout is of the quad berth balcony cabins.  I have found a video on YouTube which looks totally unsatisfactory and is a different layout to what P&O show you on their booking page (which is the layout that we want).  The agent we are booking with can’t help... he says it pot luck but I need to know otherwise we would probably book Ocean view cabins... If anyone has any photos or have had a quad share balcony cabin I would appreciate their feedback.  Thank you.

We are Canadian and often are able to purchase the cruise at a good rate -- unfortunately the other posters are correct.  When you purchase OBC, it is only for use on board.   If the rate is favourable, I buy OBC in advance to cover gratuities, specialty dining, drinks, etc.   But anything on shore is at whatever rate I can get from my local moneychanger ! 🙂

If there is OBC left after the cruise (over $20 or something low like that - I can't recall the exact amount) then the ship transfers the amount owing to head office, they transfer it to their 3rd party payment company and sometime after a few weeks a cheque arrives in the mail.   Last time we had a larger amount (4 of us decided to not take ship shore excursions that I bought OBC to cover)  it took weeks and weeks and I had to contact customer relations quite a few times.  The holdup was a problem at the payment company, not with Princess.    Other folks have reported quick 2 week turnaround.   So it varies.

The refund cheque may be in $US or it may be in your home currency.  There are reports here of both options occurring.

Its a bit of a gamble to try to save on the exchange.   Worth it if you spend it all, possibly a hassle if you don't.

Great thanks for that info.... seems like people have different experiences.... some are lucky and some are not.  Some have recommended the Casino but I don't think I will chance it.

With all due respect, why would you do this? Why not maintain control of your funds?

Because the exchange rate from AUD to USD is far better to purchase it through my personaliser but not really a benefit if I can only use for onboard purchases as I want to have some cash for port days too.  Usually I do just take the required cash when cruising on ships with Australian currency but this ship is in USD.

Not really.  It isn't a bank.  The money in your account is used for onboard purchases like drinks, photos,  princess shore excursions, spa gratuities etc.

Well I agree it's not a bank but it is my money and if I want to take it out I should be able to.... I put it onto my account not Princess or anyone else..... I agree with what you are saying for any OBC that is given to you as part of  your fare.
