  1. My Wife and I will be onboard the Sojourn for the September 11 Alaska cruise sailing out of Seward.

In order to get over jet lag (we are Aussies) we will spend a few nights in Anchorage prior to hiring a car and driving (on the "wrong" side of the road!) to Seward. Being late risers we cannot bear the thought of the early train departure (6:45AM, seriously?) and driving will give us a chance to stop and appreciate the views during our journey.

The question is, what time should we aim to arrive portside in Seward? I have read on other threads that the train gets in just after 11AM and that there is a short wait prior to embarkation commencing. Ideally we would arrive after this group of passengers have boarded so we don't have to wait, but in time to enjoy lunch in the Colonnade. Would 1PM then be a good time?

3 weeks, 3 days until we fly out - we can't wait!

FYI, we came in a day early, stayed in a hotel by the airport, booked the Seabourn transfer, which also depart from the airport in addition to downtown anchorage, took the hotel shuttle to airport around 10 am and the bus to Seward left around 11 am. We initially planned to rent a car however the one way drop off charge was very costly, also airport hotels are less expensive verses downtown. The cruise on the Sojourn was excellent!!

  2. Deck 5 cabins on Seabourn ships have railings that are half metal, half glass. Has anyone sailed in these cabins? Can you easily see the ocean when seated on the veranda? Any other thoughts on Deck 5?

No issue seeing the ocean while seated on veranda, only if your in the bed.

  3. Has anyone had experience of a shore excursion on Komodo? The Seabourn site advises that to be allowed on shore you have to be on a shore excursion. Does this mean a ship’s shore excursion, or would a private tour be OK?

There is some confusion on our roll call.

    Thanks in advance

We visited Komodo off a cruise several years ago, and a group of passengers (who met via cruise critic) booked a private tour which included a ground tour to see the dragons, which had to be escorted by a local guide, which was mandatory, we visited a local school, and our tour included a cruise with lunch on board and swimming. So you are not tied to a Seabourn tour, our private tour was less expensive! Be prepared for a very HOT, and dusty day!

  4. It doesn't matter if the waiter it right or not. He may be right but it's the tone and the way he talks to the passenger that's the issue here, He could have said all the same things with a smile on his face and there would have been no problem.

Banish Hugo to room service deliveries!

  5. I tried to book at the Marriott Copenhagen and they said no availability. They gave me the choice of Renaissance Malmo Hotel in Malmo Sweden. I booked it because it was an option and I wanted to make sure I had some hotel for the day before the cruise.

    Is it a bad idea?

Sure I try for another Copenhagen hotel? It appears to be a Marriott hotel but will the transportation to Copenhagen and to the cruise be prohibitive?

Thanks for ANY help. I am out of my league here with these travel arrangements.

We stayed at the Reaissance in Malmo pre cruise for two nights to use Marriott points, it was quite nice and located close to central rail station in Malmo (walkable to hotel) also by numerous restaurants, our stay was over a holiday weekend and the town was dead. We took the train directly from Copenhagen airport, around 3 stops, when you head to your ship take the train again to the closest station to the port in Copenhagen, then a taxi to your ship. Trains are cheap and taxis in Copenhagen are expensive. Staying in Malmo was not an inconvenience, but Copenhagen has more things to see and do.

  6. Perfect, thank you for the information....We would have considered Seabourn's tour/transfer but our flight leaves before the allotted time.

    Cheers

Off of a Seabourn cruise from Norway l last summer, Seabourn had transfers to

the Copenhagen airport without a tour, and the cost was VERY reasonable!

  7. Returning to Dubai this fall. Stayed last time at Hyatt by WAFI mall. Very nice but now looking for something different, just to chsnge it up. Any suggestions for other areas or hoetels would be welcome. Thanks in advance for responses.

Hi Hobar, we were on the Dec 2011 SA Sojourn cruise with you, we're heading to Dubai in two weeks to catch the Seabourn Odyssey and are staying at the JW Marriott in Deira (old town area) central to airport and cruise port, hotel is reported to have excellent club level.

  8. We will be arriving at Piraeus aboard the Odyssey on April 24th and would like to know if Seabourn (the staff in Seattle does not have this information) arranges group bus transfers for those passengers going directly to the Athens airport verses those taking a city tour then going to the airport or remaining in Athens. On our Norway cruise last year on the Legend, we were pleasantly surprised when Seabourn offered a VERY reasonably priced transfer to the Copenhagen Airport.

  9. Hi Hobar,

We sailed with you on the Sojourn in December 2011 to SA, regarding your enquiry about the Legend, we just sailed on it to Norway in July and found the ship in excellent condition, every crew member that we encountered was superb, food service and nightly entertainment was great. Captain Dag was terrific and made this cruise on the Legend among the best we've experienced todate!

  10. We arrived into Copenhagen yesterday afternoon and we are staying in a hotel across the bridge in Malmo Sweden prior to our cruise on Sunday, I am happy to report that the train strike is OVER and getting to Malmo was a breeze! However the cab driver tried to rip us off by trying to charge 150 sek for the 1.5 km ride from Malmo Central station to our hotel.

  11. We have been assigned cabin 136 on the Seabourn Legend on an upcoming cruise, the deck plan shows that this cabin is located adjacent to an elevator and above a space that is not labeled on the deck below between the restaurant and the gallery, would appreciate and info on noise or other issues with this cabin location?:D

  12. Yes usually there is some kind of airport staff directing people to the correct size of taxi.

If I was you I would plan to take take the taxi at around 07:30-07:45 an no later that 08:00 because you will have to allowe time to check-in, baggage drop off and security.

My point being that you at least have to be at the airport at least 1 hour before.

SAS has a final check in time of 35 minutes before departure but you still have to be at the gate 15 (or is it 20) minutes before.

Travel time with taxi is around 20-25 minutes depending on route.

But I must admit that your schedule looks very tight because if the ship is late.

Thank you for your advice, I will plan to be the first one off the ship! Do you think that taxi's will be waiting at the pier for the ships arrival?
