  1. Pauly when you get settled I, and others I am sure, are still curious to hear what it was like on Friday/Saturday with half the guests gone. Maybe I missed it somewhere? Lots of posts:eek:

It was interesting. If you have ever stayed on a ship while it was in port, it felt like that. The MDR was very quiet, lots of open tables. They were only opening half of the buffet on Lido. The cool thing was the deck party on Friday night...we had almost half of the passengers there. It was a huge party...but if you walked elsewhere, it appeared as if the ship was practically empty.

  2. I am home. Sunday was a long day with packing, visiting the two forts and then flying home. Today will be a day of rest. I was hoping that whoever is in 1207 for this weeks cruise was following my posts since I left them a present in the cabin. I hope they got it.

  3. I wonder.. So OP posted they were evacuated off the ship with no money and no ID?

If you can grab a call phone always grab money and ID. ID, credit cards and medical cards are always in my possession no matter what. We have become a warped society to always have a cell but not ID and money.

This is just the case to plan ahead for and all essentials together in one spot ready to grab in an emergency.:D

Unfortunately, we had just finished trivia and only had our Sail and Sign cards and our cell phones to take pictures with. We were not allowed to go to our cabins when we were told to leave the ship.

  4. You did an excellent job reporting to us. Thanks.

By the way, I think you mentioned that you had been employed on a cruiseship at some point. Am I remembering correctly? If so, in what capacity? Entertainment?

Enjoy the rest of your time in San Juan. I bet those that flew home already will be envious that you guys are able to use the ship as a hotel for a few days before flying home.

I have worked for two cruise lines as a production singer/dancer.

  5. I am glad that I have had the opportunity to share with the members of Cruise Critic and the cruising community. I truly appreciate all of the kind words I have read. I see that I have been mentioned on John Healds blog...I have no idea if he has seen what I posted. But I would like him to know that I have posted factual information as it has been presented to me, without any negativity or sensationalizing of the situation.

  6. They are now giving people booked on chartered flights the option of staying on the ship until Sunday. The ship will return to San Juan tomorrow morning and then guests can fly out on their original flights.

Sorry, was hand washing clothes in my sink...so Aloha<3 beat me to it.

  7. Sorry your post confused me with the walking papers then carnival specialist then coast guard revocation. I just want to know if you're staying on the ship in St Thomas and sailing back to San Juan with her or are you flying home from St Thomas? I would dare to think that if say 75% of the passengers have departed and flown home Carnival may decide that it isn't cost effective to operate at full capacity for the remaining 25% and that certain areas may be closed (limited dining for instance) or they may decide it's easier to operate at this time with zero passengers onboard.

Walking papers = Embarkation letter and flight details

Carnival Care Specialist = Customer Care from the Miami office that was flown in on Tuesday.

Coast Guard revocation = we were cleared by the coast guard and then they revoked the clearance.

Unless something changes, we are staying on the ship and sailing to San Juan.

  8. To answer a previous question, we are staying on the ship until Carnival says otherwise. I do want to make something clear, which hopefully will stop some of the back and forth that has occurred. Since we were allowed to reboard the ship on Monday, all information that I have posted has been either announced by the captain, the cruise director, stated in a letter that was delivered to our stateroom or information that I have been given by a crew member, guest relations or a Carnival Care specialist. Most of these posts have been in real time. I do not have a direct line of communication as Crusinkid does, that is why I have not posted information about the damage to the engine room or what repairs will be necessary to fix the ship. I will only post what we are being told and nothing more. As far as internet, I am not using the free wifi. I have better service using my data plan.

  9. Thanks once again... This question might have been asked and answered but having trouble keeping up with the thread...

Pauley, Why were you not allowed to stay on the ship and go back to San Juan with her? I'm thinking that the b2b passengers are staying on her so don't see why other passengers can't also.. Thanks again... You have been an inspiration to all :)

That was originally the plan for us to sail the night of the 8th. When we were not granted coast guard clearance by 9:00 pm that night, the captain announced that guests would be flown home from St Thomas starting on the 9th.

  10. We were told by Laly, the Carnival Care specialist, that we were granted clearance yesterday by the coast guard, but it was retracted due to us not sailing last night. According to her, we have now been granted clearance by the coast guard this morning and are set to sail tonight or early tomorrow. As far as refunding air fare, the refund will be for outbound flights. I tried to edit my morning post, but I had exceeded my allowed editing time set by Cruise Critic.

  11. Good morning. We got our walking papers this morning. Zone 10 with a flight to our home in Orlando. If you have been following my posts, our intention was to only be flown to San Juan and then stay in a hotel until we can take our original flight back home on the 13th. Guest services said they would cover the hotel expense. Because our flight plans were not what we requested on our form, we went to the Victoria lounge to speak to a Carnival Care specialist to fix our flights. While on hold with the Miami office, the Carnival Care specialist was pulled aside and told that we have received coast guard clearance and will be sailing to San Juan either tonight or early tomorrow. Guests will then be able to stay on the ship until the 13th. I was just informed by the Carnival Care specialist that clearance was granted yesterday, but the coast guard retracted it. However, she was not able to say way it was retracted. Most of the evening last night, we had fuel trucks next to the ship. The letter we received this morning also stated that our air fare will be refunded. So we have received a free cruise, 50% off another cruise, refunded gratuities and pre paid shore excursions and refunded air fare. If anything changes, I will post an update.
