  1. Hi Travel - thanks, that's super helpful. Do you know if it was the assigned seating for all of the evenings in the MDR? You are assigned a table number and dining room at check-in for each nights dinner. Both MDR serve the same options.

Any chance you held on to any patters? No.... sorry.

    Any highlights from the ship?

Nightly shows last one hour, consisting of comedians and shows with the ships dancers/singers. They also had whats called the Voice of the Ocean that uses cruiser participation for singer selection. The last night these singers face off for a trophy with audience voting to select the winner.
  2. Hello all...

We just returned from our first Princess cruise that departed from Whittier July 13 on Island Princess.

The MDR served many options for the main courses, with a least 5 different entrees with a chicken, beef & seafood selection to choose from. Each night had a different menu... one night was asian, italian (with a selection of pastas), etc.....

The formal night was the second night and the last sea day.

  3. I found out the hard way that Tracfone does not work in Juneau, Skagway, or Ketchikan. That was with a tracfone smart phone (uses Verizon cell network) or a tracfone flip-phone (uses AT&T network).

We were thinking of taking a tracfone to Alaska. Are you saying in port they use the ships service and use more of your prepaid minutes? Could you please clarify.

  4. Priorities (no order):

    • Pan for gold
    • See salmon swimming to spawn
    • See brown bear
    • Fly on floatplane
    • dog sledding
    • Alaska Railroad
    • Whale watching

We are flying into ANC on a Saturday afternoon and leaving on Wednesday from Whittier for southbound cruise with stops in Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchican. We would like to focus on Kenai Penninsula for land portion.

*We checked into Anan from Ketchican.... no operater received permits for that day.

Saturday: arrive in afternoon... get rental car... drive toward seward?

    Sunday:

    Monday:

Tuesday: Drive back to ANC... return rental car... lodging

Wednesday: Train to Whittier... PWS tour... board ship

    Thursday: Cruise

    Friday: Cruise

    Saturday: Skagway -

    Sunday: Juneau - Harv & Marv's - 7am - 11:30am

    Monday: Ketchican -

    Tuesday: Sea Day

    Wednesday: Disembark...

  5. Although we have enjoyed Anytime dining on other cruiselines, we are new to the Princess line and needed some guidance on the best dining option for us. We originally picked Anytime dining.... and switched to 5:45 Traditional, after reading many negative posts on how long it took to be seated.

When scheduling our dining time, we are trying to keep in mind the times returning from port, and enjoying the nightly show.

Thank you to everyone who responded. You have given some great feedback!

  6. Good Morning....

Dining times for Island Princess Alaska itinerary offered 5:15, 5:45, and I believe 8:00 pm. My question is about 5:15 & 5:45 options. Has anyone experienced a significant difference between the two times, such as, ease in seating, not giving enough time to get to shows, etc...?

    Thanks for the insight!
