Hello all...
We just returned from our first Princess cruise that departed from Whittier July 13 on Island Princess.
The MDR served many options for the main courses, with a least 5 different entrees with a chicken, beef & seafood selection to choose from. Each night had a different menu... one night was asian, italian (with a selection of pastas), etc.....
The formal night was the second night and the last sea day.

Thank you for the responses!
I am thankful for the pre-clearance in YVR. I was concerned that we needed to recheck our bags in Chicago with only a hour connection time. :D

This is an older thread, but I was wondering if the information is still accurate.
Since the flight arrives from YVR as a domestic flight, is your luggage checked through to final US destination, or do you recheck at airport?

I found out the hard way that Tracfone does not work in Juneau, Skagway, or Ketchikan. That was with a tracfone smart phone (uses Verizon cell network) or a tracfone flip-phone (uses AT&T network).
We were thinking of taking a tracfone to Alaska. Are you saying in port they use the ships service and use more of your prepaid minutes? Could you please clarify.

Thanks for the suggestion about Knik Lodge Dogsledding. Were are going to focus going South of Anchorage, Seavey's Glacier Dogsledding looks like a great option for us.

We are considering one of the Kenai Fjord tours as well. Any recommendations?

Thank you for all of the responses!
My husband and I are cruising in Mid-July, but had a limited amount of time. After reading the reports of other individuals we decided to focus on the Kenai Penninsula due to our short land portion.

Priorities (no order):
- Pan for gold
- See salmon swimming to spawn
- See brown bear
- Fly on floatplane
- dog sledding
- Alaska Railroad
- Whale watching
We are flying into ANC on a Saturday afternoon and leaving on Wednesday from Whittier for southbound cruise with stops in Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchican. We would like to focus on Kenai Penninsula for land portion.
*We checked into Anan from Ketchican.... no operater received permits for that day.
Saturday: arrive in afternoon... get rental car... drive toward seward?
Sunday:
Monday:
Tuesday: Drive back to ANC... return rental car... lodging
Wednesday: Train to Whittier... PWS tour... board ship
Thursday: Cruise
Friday: Cruise
Saturday: Skagway -
Sunday: Juneau - Harv & Marv's - 7am - 11:30am
Monday: Ketchican -
Tuesday: Sea Day
Wednesday: Disembark...

Although we have enjoyed Anytime dining on other cruiselines, we are new to the Princess line and needed some guidance on the best dining option for us. We originally picked Anytime dining.... and switched to 5:45 Traditional, after reading many negative posts on how long it took to be seated.
When scheduling our dining time, we are trying to keep in mind the times returning from port, and enjoying the nightly show.
Thank you to everyone who responded. You have given some great feedback!

Good Morning....
Dining times for Island Princess Alaska itinerary offered 5:15, 5:45, and I believe 8:00 pm. My question is about 5:15 & 5:45 options. Has anyone experienced a significant difference between the two times, such as, ease in seating, not giving enough time to get to shows, etc...?
Thanks for the insight!

Thank you for the replies! It is appreciated!

Is this info up to date? Can you bring soda, water, and 1 bottle of wine/champagne per person? Also, can you non-alcoholic drinks on at ports?

Tracefan...
Is there a two night minimum for that weekend at the Sheraton OSJ because of the festival?
