  1. We just received a message from our travel agent that we had been upgraded. Not sure why we were selected or how, but we had our reservations in real early - about 1 1/2 years before the cruise. And we constantly posted on facebook. We like the AMAWaterways facebook and followed their postings. When there were things relevant to our cruise, we always posted something. Not sure if that made any difference - but were constantly saying when we were leaving, what ship we were on and how excited we were.

  2. lackcreativity, I think you make a valid point....to me pics are important, and I will be travelling with my "super zoom" Sony and my cell phone, but for DH, although he enjoys taking pics, he is happy with his cell. I guess it all comes down to how important of a memory the pics will be to the original poster. My only comment to them would be make sure you have storage....you never know if you will need it! I am taking a 32G card for each day...and yeah, I could probably fill them, but others may do fine with what they have on their phone.

Daisi - I'm like you - I want the best I can get in my pictures - so I purchased a high end Canon G7 Mark ii point and shoot which is great for night time photos. I am taking 3 64gb sdxc cards - but I've also got some 3.0 flash drives to down the pictures to so I'll have more space.

  3. If you don't want to invest in a new camera there are a couple of options. One you rent cameras. Just google camera rentals and there are places you can rent nice point and shoot cameras. I just did this for a friend to take pictures for her daughter's engagement pictures. Another option is to purchase on EBAY a used one that is in good condition and then consider selling it on EBAY once you get through with it. This is the option I took for our trip. It'll be cheaper than renting a camera - especially since I'm using a high end point and shoot.

  4. These mitts were recommended to me and I purchased them and believe I will love them. They are fingerless gloves with a mitt that you can open to take pictures or use cell phone and when finished closed back off. They also have a pocket that looks large enough to be useable for a cell phone or money, credit cards, etc. https://www.thewarmingstore.com/sprigs-multi-mitt.html

  5. We are doing a AMASerena Christmas on the Danube cruise - starting off with five days in Prague before getting on the boat in Nuremberg to Budapest and then onto London for four days. Our traveling partners asked if we could buy stamps anywhere in the US for postcards we'll be mailing while we are gone?

Second question is while we are on the cruise I heard or read that AMA will put stamps on post cards and mail them for you. Can somebody confirm if this is true. Also they said this was a "free" service or is it they are just charging it back to your room?

  6. Based on input we bought some cheap ($3 for 12) washcloths at Bed Bath & Beyond. Washed them here to make sure they wouldn't run on other thing. Cheap - but will do what we need while in Europe. Thanks everybody. We're getting close and we were just sent a note that we've been upgraded to a Twin Balcony on AMASerena - Dec. 11. We'll be spending extra days before the cruise in Prague, an extra day in Budapest and four days in London before returning home to Dallas.

  7. We are booked for Christmas Market cruise on Amastella, leaving December 13th out of Nuremberg. I"m interested in information regarding the excursion to Salzburg - I have some questions - if someone has been on this excursion with AMA please let me know. Thanks!

We are scheduled to leave Dec. 11 on the AMASerena out of Nuremberg and want to do the Salzburg excursion. So I too would be interested in anybody that has done this - especially during the Christmas Markets cruise.

    :)

  8. Another bank debit card that is popular - I opened one myself is the CapitalOne 360 checking account and then get a debit card. I'm moving a little bit of money every pay period into that account for the trip. We'll be gone a total of three weeks. This card has no atm fees or foreign transaction fees (much like Charles Swab).

FYI - I do not work for CapitalOne - just a satisfied customer.

  9. We're going on a AMA Christmas Markets on the Danube in December. I plan on taking a LOT of pictures but want to see if on AMA if there is a place to insert a SD Card to upload pictures to Shutterfly for immediate viewing by our friends back home.

The camera also has access to WI-FI but not for Shutterfly.
