  1. Our first exposure to the new show format was about a year ago when we sailed on the Carnival Breeze. Because we booked it as a last minute trip, we really only looked at the age, class and itinerary of the ship, not the type of entertainment. So, it was a really big shock when we realized that something had drastically changed regarding the evening show format. The first big disappointment was the lack of an orchestra. Then came the utter disbelief that the lead singers, decent dancers, backdrops and stage props were all gone. They were replaced by stark stage props (mostly stairs or platforms), big video screens with gaudy graphics, terrible vocals and dancing that was out of sync with the graphics and each other! It was so bad that it was really the first letter of complaint I ever took the time to write and send both via email and post cruise survey. Of course, there was no response, but I really didn't expect one.

Well, we just returned from a trip on the Conquest (first on this ship) and it's sad to say that we did not attend any of the late night shows. The exception to this was the Hasbro Game Show. We had several younger first time cruisers with us on this trip and they found it entertaining and loved the interactive nature of the show. In addition, my son used the second night of the game show to surprise his girlfriend with a marriage proposal (she said yes) during the game.

  2. If that happened on my cruise that would be the last straw especially if they did not stop it immediately .

To be honest, I wasn't sure how to handle the situation at first. My expectation was the dinning room staff would handle the situation immediately. Even if the waiters didn't want to handle it themselves, I would have thought they would inform their management and let them handle it. However, that wasn't the case. Both the Hostess and Maître d' we're completely unaware of what was going on when I talked to them.

  3. I did go to guest services the first night and they took the information, including table numbers. The maître d' came to our table shortly after dinner started the second night and asked if everything was okay. At that point it was and I assumed he had talked to them. However, just before the wait staff started their evening "Showtime" entertainment, the group was at it again. I summoned the Maître d' again and he addressed the issue directly with them. After that point, everything was civil for the rest of the cruise. I'm at a loss as to why the waiters in the area turned a blind eye and I expressed my disappointment to both the Maître d' and customer service that I was the one that had to complain in order to get it to stop.

  4. This is the first time we've experienced this in all the cruises we've taken. We just got off the Conquest today and had a great cruise, except for the dining room. We had 11 other family members (13 total) cruising with us this trip including our 20 month old granddaughter. On the 4th night, in the Monet Dining Room, the tables next to us decided to have a food fight! Seriously! It wasn't just tossing items at each other, it was the stand up and throw like a baseball type of food fight. It didn't take long to see that the wait staff wasn't going to do anything about it. By the time I made it to the Maître d' they had left. Well, to make a long story short, they once again started the food fight the next night. Luckily, they stepped in and stopped it from continuing.

Anyone ever experience anything like this (high school doesn't count)?

  5. WOW! I can’t believe I just stayed up until 1:00 in the morning reading over 400 posts on CC!

I just booked a ‘surprise’ 3-Oct cruise on the Freedom OTS to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and decided to log on to CC to see if anyone had recently posted any useful information about the ship and its itinerary. The funny part is that the wife and I arrived at a hotel in Charleston, SC tonight for a quick weekend getaway and once we settled in our room (about 10:00pm) I logged on to CC and found this thread.

Jim, my thoughts and prayers are with you. It’s obvious that Carol was a big part of your life and you shared so much together. My heart breaks for you

When I started reading your thread, I couldn’t keep the tears back. Then, I’d start grinning from ear to ear as I read about the people you met, the food you ate, the interesting pictures you posted and comments from some of your faithful followers. I even laughed out loud when I read the post referring to your BFO and then the closed ice cream stand. I thought it was going to be smooth sailing once I passed about the 200th post, not realizing there were more than 400. Then, you posted the pictures of “Carol’s last balcony” and the tears started again. What a emotional roller coaster!

Thank you so much for sharing this experience with all of us. May God bless you and keep youhappy and healthy in the years ahead.
