  1. Actually we just leave the bathroom light on and hang the princess robes on the door hook and put them in the door crack a bit so the door stays ajar anbout tw inches. That is plenty of lught to see to get around, but not distracting.

That works ok unless the ship is rocking! Still doesn't answer my question for those that want to plug a night light on the bathroom.

  2. Would someone please explain to me why everyone wants to put there nightlight in the bathroom? When you close the door the cabin area is dark. Isn't the object of a nightlight to see how to find your way to the bathroom?

There is an extra wall outlet behind the TV that we use.

  3. We always bring our night light and plug it in there.

What good is a night light in the bathroom when you have the bathroom door shut? We plug ours in the spare outlet behind the TV so you can find your way from the bed to the bathroom.

  4. You brought up a point about the Elite line. It's a nice option but if only one person is assigned to the Elite line it's sometimes much much faster to get on the regular line. It would be much better if they called the first person on the Elite line to any position rather than have them wait for only one rep.

They did this on the Emerald on our recent March B2B. You tend to get a lot of dirty looks from the people waiting in the regular line though.

  5. As a frequent inside cruiser, I won't take offense at your comments. I appreciate that many are willing to pay premium prices for suites and minisuites. There is no cruise ship that could sail with inside cabins alone, just as most mainstream lines take advantage of their voluminous inside space to generate revenue through selling inside cabins. Without those inside cabins, your suite might cost even more. It works both ways.

I don't know how you can tell that Elite cruisers who book insides are the ones who claim to deserve suite perks...we are one example of inside cruisers who really don't need flowers and champagne and breakfast at Sabatinis.

Princess is a business. When it decides that selling inside cabin space to cruisers who compound that thriftiness by not buying every photo, spa treatment, ship tour and excursion does not work to its advantage, it will stop. And then we'll have to reconsider our options. Until then, I much prefer spending 60+ nights cruising each winter in an inside cabin to 15 nights in a suite. And Princess chooses to reward me for that loyalty through their Elite perks. I like that choice!

I thought we were the only elite pax that book inside cabins. Having anytime dining we usually meet new people every night. In our discussions we have found out that everybody only books balcony or minisuites??? I guess aside from you and us the names on the inside cabins are fake - they are put their by Princess to make you think the ship is full.icon7.gif

  6. I'm happy with what I have and I'm Elite, I cruise for the itinerary and I enjoy the perks they give me. On RCL the new level of Pinnacle is really just a title with no new benefits. The only perk I would like from Princess is a logo tote bag to schlep my stuff around ports and take home.

We have four of these now from our last two B2B's. I think everybody gets them. They are the same kind you can buy in your supermarket for $1.

  7. We were given our minutes remaining when we logged in, but not when we logged out. We were using WiFi. And, I agree, charging me 'per minute' rate after my package minutes expire is NOT a convenience in my book. However, on the Emerald, Internet was so unreliable that DH and I both ended all 5 of our cruises with 150+ minutes of our 250 minutes left every cruise.

And I agree that the Emersld Internet cafe manager this year was a bit less than helpful, quite a change from the Emerald manager two years ago who gladly carried minutes over from one cruise to another on B2Bs. Last year on the Ruby, our packages were good until the end of the next cruise embarkation day; this year we didn't even have that (again, not that it was a big issue, as it was so difficult to log on). I really hope Internet on the Emersld improves before next winter...the Star in April on the same itinerary was so much better.

The internet cafe manager on the Emerald in March was a complete jerk. He may have been a good computer geek but he had no people skills and should not be put in a position where he interacts with paying passengers. Several people mentioned this to me without my prompting the situation. I did write it up in my comment card.

  8. The system still tells you you account usage but you have to wait there long enough to give it time to respond.

I did notice that on a B2B cruise the unused minutes from one trip were added to the second voyage. I'm not sure if this was a change since we haven't done a B2B in a while.

This is another one of those "some ships" thing. On our last B2B in March on the Emerald they did not carryover, but then, the internet cafe manager was very rude. Several people mentioned having encounters with him. On the Crown last fall my wifes carried over but mine did not. I think this might be a timing thing as to when you add the minutes? They don't wipe the accounts until the ship is cleared on disembarkation day.

  9. I have the exact same thing. Remember, where the rash appears on your body can be unrelated to what causes it. After fighting this for years on Princess, I finally figured it out and this year had not one issue in 60 days of Princess cruises.

For me, it's the copper in the Purell canisters. It took a lot of detective work (sun? Princess detergent? Princess soap?), but when it got worse during a norovirus outbreak last year, I got suspicious. A headwaiter opened one of those dispensers for me, and looking at the ingredients list, I spotted copper. This year I avoided the Purell (much to the chagrin of one particular lady in the buffet who accused me of being the cause of all sorts of disease and suffering in the world) and had no problem.

That's interesting. A few years ago my wife came down with a rash on her hands a few hours after using the hand sanitizer in one of the dr's. We went to the ship's doctor and got some medication for it but never found out what it was. She is allergic to nickel, silver and obviously copper too ( at least that's what she tells me when shopping for "GOLD" jewerty icon7.gif)

  10. I've never seen this posted before: Wait until the 2nd day to purchase your coffee card and you will get a 20% discount plus there's a free coupon for the coffee mug in the Princess booklet.

    Dave

This is new! Where did you find this?

  11. This is going to sound dumb -I always take a night-light - but have

NEVER found a place to plug it in - in the bathroom - where is

    that plug-in located ???

A night light in the bathroom is useless when the door is closed. We plug ours in behind the TV so we can find our way to the bathroom.

  12. Has anyone mentioned a small night light for the bathroom?? Although after you trip over the sill several times, you'll remember that its there.

A night light in the bathroom will not do much good if the door is closed!! We plug in a night light behind the TV.

  13. Hi, well, I've only take one cruise but the secrets on that "other thread" were helpful. I purchased a Coffee Card from a waiter on deck and used it two days. Around the third day after settling in I went through the coupon book and found a coupon for a Stainless Steel tumbler, free, with purchase. I called the desk and they said to go to the bar in the Atrium and they will give me one. I did just that, showed him my card and coupon and you know, it's a pretty cool tumbler!

Something else that I don't EVER remember discussed on here is those big $10.00 sales they have in one of the Dining Rooms on the 3rd or 4th day. (announced in the Patters". Now, some of you may think it's "junk", BUT, the watches are the BOMB. They are just as good as those you can buy in the malls for $20.00-$30.00. They have hundreds in many different colors with lots of Metallic choices. Bands and cuffs. Competition can be fierce! Get there early! Toward the end of the cruise they have another sale with clothes. Those that may be "last years" in the Boutiques, but if it's your first cruise, who knows it's "Last years"! I bought good quality T's, shifts and canvas tote-bags with the regular $29.00 price tag on it. Oh, also, they had men's Stainless Steel bracelets, 3 times the price in stores. There's also a coupon for the sales. Pop into these sales and also look at the items they periodically have in the Atrium. We had a lot of fun with all of it.

The 50% three hour sale is mostly a ripoff. The 50% is off the original retail price. Many of the items have already been marked down more than 50% and can be bought for the cheaper markdown price in the stores at any time.

  14. Just a week ago we both walked into the Crown Grill on the Emerald with a glass of wine from our room and they carried it to the table for us. And, BTW, we had it in water glasses (given to us by room service as wine glasses) and they exchanged them for wine glasses.

  15. Lido, or HC coffee, is REAL coffee. It is made from a liquid coffee concentrate same as all of the coffee on the ship with the exception of the Patisserie or IC, in which case, it is fresh brewed for a fee.

Orange juice is also made from a liquid concentrate or you can get fresh squeezed for a ffee.

  16. It'll be nice for a change to sit down comfortably and have a cigarette and/or watch TV or relax on a comfy chair or couch. I don't smoke in my own home, but I will in the hotel room suite if it's allowed. I'll know I'm on vacation when I can watch the late movie in January and not have to go stand outside in the cold while I have a cigarette during commercials.

Thanks for the info. That's what I wanted to know! It does sound organized so that's good enough for me.

The info I got from Princess says the ship will be at Pier 2 / Terminal 2, whatever that means. I guess I'll find out when I get there. I'm still 100+ days out so I'll have to be sure and re-verify that shortly before we leave for Florida.

And your bad experience sounds exactly like something that would happen to me. If you hadn't told me that I can guarantee you that when I return I would be complaining about that happening to me.

The Embassy is totaly smoke free now.
