  1. Royal has recently in the last few months started doing away with formal nights.  Has anyone in the last few months done a Trans Atlantic(TA) cruise and can shed some light on if they did any formal nights?

Since royal just started doing away with the formal nights,  if you sailed earlier this year  (Jan-September 2019) it may or may not be the same experience since the changes are recent.

    Thanks in advance!

Just wondering if the Enchantment has a scheduled drydock or refurb?  Considering a cruise in July 2020 and have been reading about the current so-so upkeep.  Thanks.

She is right now (10/29) in Dry Dock in Cadiz, Spain. for a two week nip and tuck.  we are sailing her back to the united states on the transatlantic cruise.

We have just been on the Rhapsody for 2 weeks 7-21 Sept 19 and we thought she was in very good condition considering her age. Our cabin was great, the only thing we noticed was some scratches & dents on the ceiling where it looks as if a panel had been removed/replaced. The public areas were good, there was always someone cleaning something!  The carpet in the jewelry store was replaced one port day, and in Katakolon a whole team of electricians came onboard. They stayed the following week as well and we saw them a few times around the ship, usually up a ladder with heads in the ceiling, trailing wires. We presumed they were fixing lighting.  Overall we loved her, and the cruises (we did B2B). So much so we are hoping to do it all again in 2021 🙂

That would be the installation team for the upgrading for the needed additional Wireless access points.  This upgrade will allow the ship to be part of the Royal App.  We saw the same work being done on one of our other cruises.

The problem is the food was terrible in general. Here are some specifics since requested:

French Onion Soup- this was literally broth and cheese. There were no onions or croutons in the soup bowl. Nothing but a bowl of broth.

Prime Rib- ordered Medium - came out well done. Sent back and I swear they brought out the same slice that was just sent back.

Chicken Marsala- it was gray. Gray... nothing else to say.

Calamari- so tough they were inedible. Little fried rubber bands.

Shrimp Cocktail- shrimp was chewy and fibrous. Also, even after 2 requests, no cocktail sauce.

Creme Brulee- more like flan soaking in sugar. Now this tasted just like flan. I am a fan of flan and ate every bite of it. But why not just call it flan?

Other than the flan... I mean creme brûlée, I couldn't get past the issues to eat these items. As a reminder, we also visited Chops one night and Giovanni's one night. So the issues above were from only 2 nights in the MDR.

Chops and Giovanni's were amazing. The service and food were amazing. We also ate breakfast in Chops since we were Suite guests. The breakfast was perfect each morning.

    Hope this helps!

I can report that we had the exact same thoughts on or recent Sept sailing.  The French onion tasted like water with some broth added and no onions or bread.  The prime rib was way over cooked.  The crime brûlée tasted more like a puddling and the sugars on top was not remotely crisp.   We were highly disappointed.

We had a gay male couple on Brilliance a week and a half ago, they were the middle couple and had to audition and won the crowd over! They played very well and won the game!! It was very refreshing to see and probably one of the best overall Love & Marriage shows I have seen in all my cruising!! Tons of FUN!!!!

That was us!  I can't believe we won!  The crowd was fantastic and we all had a wonderful time!  We had people coming up to us all over the ship congratulating us and telling us how much they enjoyed the show.  We had a blast!

  6. After my delays and the late arrival and my taxi driver getting lost,

This is a VERY well known about tactic in Ft Lauderdale. They try it all the time if they think you do not know the area. Especially when picking people up at the airport they try to get a higher amount out of you by driving you far out of the way. We warn everyone in our Company that goes to Ft Lauderdale to watch their Taxi drivers as this is a Known way that they cheat people.

  7. We just completed a 7 day cruise on the Vision. And with the exception of 2 issues it was a great cruise:

1 - We had two adjoining junior suites – 8046 & 8048. Great cabins and location. EXCEPT these cabins were located under two ping pong tables on deck 9 and the noise generated from the play on these tables was what I would assume elephant races would sound like. You would never think that this much banging and thumping could come from playing ping pong. The noise was incessant from 9 AM sometimes until 10 or 11 at night. My only point is that these issues were not handled well and to avoid cabins 8046 & 8048.

Oh no! We just got assigned room 8048 (we had booked a JS Guarantee) for the April 16 Transatlantic sailing. any other issues with this room? Any pictures of the room you can share?

    Thank you in advance!

  8. The Magic Jack App lets you call back to US & Canada for free as long as your connected to Wi-Fi. Has anyone tried using this App on RC Vision of the Seas or any other cruise ship? Just wondering if I purchased Wi Fi minutes, is the connection good enough to make the call?

Sorry the Internet Connection is not fast enough on the Vision of the seas. From my understanding it would only possibly work on the ships that have the new VOOM internet connection.

  9. it is an interesting layout of the rooms... looking at it... it appears that the 'challenge' to the architects were to do more with less... it looks like the rooms are going to be configured to fit two rooms per pillar space rather than the standard of 1 room per space... if you look at the model, the two outside walls near the balconies have the support pillars cutouts on them. now it also could be an slightly expanded or condensed pillar spacing as well. This would also explain the beds overlapping each other in the rooms. The bathroom concept is just a bit weird... and would be interesting to see where it goes.

as far as the Murphy Bed concept... that would be cool... but the extra weight of the mechanics of the beds would probably make is not preferred. as they try to shave weight as much as possible.

  10. We Live in Tampa Fl. we usually put together small group cruise just for us and our friends. Neither myself or my husband are in the cruise/travel industry. we just use a local cruise specialty agency that I have worked with for over 10 years to do all the work for me. next trip is a 10 night cruise on November!

We usually also take a group of friends on the 2 nite century sailing that takes place every January out of Miami.
