  1. We were just in Nassau 2 weeks ago, but not on a cruise.  We had booked an Exuma pig excursion (Powerboat) that got cancelled due to weather/rough seas.  And the one beach day we had, was chilly seawater! So I guess January is iffy, but the weather was nice. Only one day got above 75F, but it was pleasant weather overall, with one rainy day.  Not too windy that week.

  2. there was recently another thread about Twin Brothers, they may be closed indefinitely right now? The thread is titled "Fish Frye"

  3. we were just in Nassau and never felt unsafe. We walked (downhill) from John Watling's distillery towards downtown, 2 of our group split off to visit Queen staircase. We went down alleys and said hello to locals, who were helpful in telling us directions too.  We had taxi drivers who assured us that safety for tourists in Nassau is a priority, that they value us as visitors.  Physically, I have some issues on rough terrain, so to answer your question, atruetexan: I would taxi up and maybe walk back.  It's probably a mile each way.

  4. We were there last week and Twin Brothers was closed, but I don't know if that's permanent or not.  We ate at Curly's and also at Deep Creek, both were good.  Wasn't on a cruise this time, but we enjoyed sitting at Gone Fishin BBQ on the nearby beach watching the ships leave!  Nice patio there to sit, and there's a sweet little beach there too.

  5. Thanks for the review! We were on this cruise also, and found it very pleasant and relaxing, as we had hoped. On previous cruises, I used to plan our port days more rigorously than I did this time, and wished I had planned Cabo a bit better, but oh well.

Our highlights were the days at sea, which we love, and Puerto Vallarta was very nice. We visited Old Towne and had a nice late lunch and beers at a balcony restaurant near The Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. The Miracle staff was excellent overall, and we enjoyed Alchemy Bar for its creative offerings. She's a beautiful ship! Glad we went.

  6. For those who've sailed on the Miracle before.... Would you recommend :

Red Frog Pub or The Alchemy ? And why?

Lido Buffet or Room Svc? Why?

Favorite stops in Cabo (without an organized excursion)?

If you've had the cheers program....

Do you tip the servers for each drink like normal?

Do we still sign for each drink ?

We paid for the program to avoid a surprise/additional expense post cruise but the tips may become just that. We're high tippers so I'd like to know if I should just get some gift cards to put on our account to cover the tips (unless they're included in what we paid). AND...? if they ARE included in what we paid Do we know that each server will get their tips?

We were on Miracle last week and had a great cruise. We had cheers package, and I didn't plan to tip extra, but we did anyway, because the service was so awesome. I think they pool the tips to be shared among all the bartenders, but I don't know for sure. And yes you do sign for every drink.

We mostly ate Lido deck food and it was pretty good, lots of choices. Between 3pm and 6pm though, your choices are more limited so room service during those hours if you want to eat then.

We didn't plan much for Cabo (usually I research options but I didn't this time), and it's very touristy around the port area. A taxi driver took us to the nearby beach area. From there we found Sharky's for lunch, which was very pleasant. Great food and service, but we were the only ones there at the time. Really enjoyed it though, for a quiet lunch.

Oh, and don't miss Alchemy Bar, amazingly creative drinks and superb staff. You will like it.

  7. Probably time for a bump of this post. Guys like this scammer are everywhere. What I find funny is I was accosted by scammers with similar stories in both Seattle and Memphis over the past 2 years, and the physical description of the San Juan scammer fits them both!

I really don't mind giving a couple of bucks on occasion, depending on circumstances, but if they try to reel me in with an elaborate lie, forget it. The ones I get a kick out of (but don't donate to) are the ones who have signs such as "spare change for a bottle of liver disease" (seen in downtown Portland Oregon).
