1. I feel they should barely even have any access when they are on duty. Sure, the stateroom steward has to do his job and all, but I feel the access of all employees (when on and off duty) should be more limited.

At hotels, I elect to make a green choice, which denies all housekeeping services and give me a couple extra Starpoints. The first thing I do when entering a hotel room is to leave a do not disturb sign on the door and it doesn't get removed until I'm about to checkout. If this gets violated, I always open a corporate file complaint with Starwood.

2. Recent reports indicate this enforcement is powered by guest complaints.

Apparently, according to the member who reported it here (sorry whoever it was - I forgot your username), he/she called Guest Services and requested security/enforcement of the policy. Security never came and information later came to prove that the stateroom steward was requested to inspect staterooms in his section to see if anyone in the rooms were smokers.

This could lead to those innocent being charged the cleaning fee, as well as stateroom stewards hunting down your cigarettes through your belongings.

3. Not trying to hijack thread, but thought I would mention this: we received a notice this evening that our stay in Naussau 1/4/15 will be from 5AM until 9PM. Though unspecified, they said the change was due to some maintenance work which needed to be done. Other than the longer stay in Naussau, the rest of the cruise will remain as is.

Happy travels to those of you joining the CB tomorrow!

Thanks for the heads up!

4. I am sorry, but I am still unable to understand what benefit to Carnival and its customers the "desired" wristband implementation will bring. Could someone, or someones, please clearly state the benefits they think will occur and what the value of those benefits are to Carnival and their customers. None quantifiable or pretend benefits such as "it will allow us to get on and off the ship faster", it will allow us to get drinks faster", "it will remove the need to sign bar tabs", or anything like these will not be looked at as serious attempts to state the value of such an expensive change.

To see the benefit, as suggested in a previous post, give this a read: http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=/netahtml/PTO/srchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=20130018661.PGNR.

5. I predict we will not know Carnival Vista's American homeport at the end of this month. I think this information will come at a later time after the ship's renderings are distributed and European itineraries are introduced.
Hmm not sure I want to go on a ship that has distributed renderings regarding its itineraries.

Than again not sure I know what that means.

...Ha Ha -- Love it! Yeah, what does that mean?

It means I don't think they will announce the ship's American homeport on January 22, contrary to the speculation in the "Everything Vista" subforum. I believe the event will talk about the itineraries in Europe (with confirmed port calls in Civitavecchia and Gibraltar) and distribute the ship renderings to the press. I think the Caribbean itineraries will come at a later date.

6. RFID chips are in my Citibank card and at WalMart I have to place it is the card reader in a slot on the bottom rather than swiping it where all the other cards without chips are swiped. Even if you are correct, which I know you are not, all systems on the ship will have to be changed to accomodate the new technology - all room locks, all point of sale input devices, all casino systems, all guest services systems, all ship security systems, to name just a few. And the cost of that type of technology is not cheap, and requires very careful migration.

First of all, your Citibank card utilizes NFC, not RFID.

An RFID ship card will use the same infrastructure as an RFID wristband. All hotel rooms at Walt Disney World are equipped with RFID locks that work simultaneously with a Key to the World card and a MagicBand. All doors on the Quantum of the Seas are RFID ready to use either a SeaPass or a WOWBand. At select Starwood hotels (Five Ws, one Element and one aLoft) are equipped with NFC and Bluetooth locks for SPG Keyless. These can be used with NFC room keys. By the end of 2015, all Ws, Elements and aLofts will be ready for SPG Keyless.

Change is inevitable and when time has come to remove the magnetic strip and replace it with active radios, a ship card or a wristband will not operate independently. There was a time when you were given a hard key at hotels and on cruise ships.

As someone who was involved with the rollout of MyMagic+ at Walt Disney World, I highly recommend you review Disney's patent relating to its Guest Experience Management System and Method (Patent).

By the way, the post that was quoted was in disbelief of the possibility of a ship card and a wristband being used simultaneously. I assumed it was obvious that consideration would be given to having the equipment replaced on older ships (or the older ships simply forgotten) with it being launched on a newer ship, similar to Royal Caribbean's rollout. Carnival isn't currently known for its technological innovations.

7. We withdraw all of our onboard credit as cash as soon as we can. Those Starpoints add up that much quicker when you don't have so much onboard credit dragging down the amount billed to the card. :D

Besides, for each onboard credit of $100, it costs Carnival no more than 15-20 USD. The exception being if the onboard credit is either withdrawn as cash or used against your gratuities, where it would cost Carnival the full face value of the OBC.

8. Hi everyone! DH, 16 yr old son and I are cruising the Fascination on the 12th. We have am ocean view room with a Pullman. My son is over 6 feet tall and weighs more than the 250 Pullman weight limit. Have any of you had an issue with getting a roll away or have you heard of them running out of them? PVP says she can not request one for us in advance and that we will need to request one once on board the ship which makes me a little nervous. Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

You can try contacting the Guest Services desk onboard the Carnival Fasciation at this email address: fsguestservices@carnival.com.

Be sure to include your name, stateroom number and date of embarkation.

9. And I think Little Stirrup Cay is now the former Coco Cay that the Fantasy is traveling to.......
RCI doesn't call it Little Stirrup Cay...
But this is a Carnival thread and Carnival DOES call It Little Stirrup. Good grief.

How can Little Stirrup Cay be the "former" CocoCay if CocoCay is still being referred to as CocoCay by the company of which that owns the island? As per the Annual Report, "we also operate two private destinations which we utilize as a port-of-call on certain of our itineraries: (i) an island we own in the Bahamas which we call CocoCay; and (ii) Labadee, a secluded peninsula we lease on the north coast of Haiti." (Annual Report)

The name of the island is Little Stirrup Cay, but the resort area of which both cruise lines call at is known as CocoCay.

10. Just to let you know that yes, you can get a price drop if the category above yours is lower than your category and there are no open cabins in your category. The catch is that you will have to move to the higher category cabin.

The TA site also will only show 10 cabins per category.

I've price matched to a higher category without upgrading. On the ES form, I selected onboard credit where it asked to choose from one or the other.

In the comments section, I've written not to upgrade the stateroom.

11. So we went from going to wristbands to having both options. So now we are assuming that Carnival will provide both options at the same time. So they will now have to maintain the old system as well as provide the infrastructure for the wristbands. Seems like a really expensive proposition that will probably filter right down to the cost of the cruise. I can just picture some very enterprising children deciding to switch their wristbands with other children they have met on the ship. Will make for very interesting traffic jams when they try to exit or enter at ports and the kids they switched with are nowhere near the debarkation station when this happens.

An RFID chip can be embedded into the ship card, meaning they can work under the same infrastructure.

12. ...that Carnival will start selling Future Cruise Vouchers again.

While I would enjoy the certificates returning, we may not see them. However, as I can see you enjoy the benefits of the certificate, there is an alternative. Book a cruise as far out as possible with a fully refundable past guest/fun select rate. When you find out which cruise you want, change the sail date of the cruise and if you wish, you can switch to early saver. The deposit and onboard booking bonus onboard credit carry over.

13. In a port, you will also be allowed to bring onboard as much bottled water as you can carry to the ship in addition to your allotted amount at the time of embarkation.

14. Here are my two, and yes 1 will be Cuba related

1. The first ships sailing to Cuba will not only be +100% occupied, the rates will be at New Years Eve prices.

2. Carnival will announce 2 more new ships, with Carnival shifting 2 ships (at least 1 will be Fantasy class) to the Asia coast.

You need to work on your reading comprehension. I never said that Carnival was going to sail to the Cuba. I just said a ship from America.

I, too, don't think ships from a US homeport will be calling in Cuba anytime soon. First the embargo would need to be eliminated. Any foreign flagged vessel that visits Cuba is currently unable to dock in the United States for six (6) months. I think it is possible within 10 or 20 years, but definitely not within the next 365 days.
