    I would not travel  then

no one knows who will test positive & who will be fine

It is  a chance you take when you travel or even just leave the security of your own space

It’s not an option not to travel, it’s all paid up and has been for 2 years.  The travel agent wouldn’t refund us as the flights and cruise are all good to go, we’d lose everything.  We’ve been on 5 cruises since restrictions lifted without issue.  I suppose it’s the what if and we have to quarantine in a hotel in Vancouver for 10 days that is not very appealing.

  2. Hi everyone

We are in the U.K. and traveling to Vancouver to spend 2 nights in a hotel pre Alaska cruise on NCL Jewel.  We travel beginning of October.  I am getting really nervous about the pre testing we need to do to enable boarding.  Is there any indication this requirement will be lifted any time soon?  We really don’t want to travel all the way to Canada only to test positive and have to quarantine for 10 days.  Are there any readers who’ve traveled from the U.K. and able to let me know their experience?

I think the approach taken by P&O may have been different if mask wearing had been enforced on the coach. This appears to have contributed to the issue.

I'm expecting, but can't confirm, some type of lateral flow test at the airport before flying.

We are booked on the Britannia transatlantic Southampton to Caribbean in October.  I have spoken to P&O today and they are not testing us at Manchester airport before boarding the coaches to Southampton.  Coach passengers will be tested at Southampton only, in my opinion all should be tested before leaving Manchester and the other airports (Birmingham, Gatwick etc).  I argued by testing at Manchester, P&O and passengers wouldn't be in the awful position the coach party at the weekend had to suffer, as any people testing positive wouldn't be able to travel down .  I am aware logistically, to test before boarding on Eavesway which pick up at various spots en route is a different matter.

  4. I have just looked at the Flam website ( aurlandhavn dot no ), showing arrival times. If you are there 6th Aug it is showing 8.00am. The 27th Aug is showing 7.00 am, and there is also a Costa ship in port on that day.

Remember there will probably be a time lag, before disembarkation begins. Sometimes, they ensure longer duration tours have priority to leave the ship.

Thanks for that it’s 27 August. Let’s hope it’s Costa that gets the tendering! We have been to Flam before so know how close the station is. Hopefully as Cunard is also running the 7.30 trip they make sure we arrive in plenty of time 😏

  5. Is the Cunard excursion departing 7-30am or actually on the 7-30am train I would make sure. It might say leaving 7-30am but by the time they have escorted you off the ship and the short walk to the train station they might be booked on 8am or later train. If so then I would worry because to get to train station independently you would have to be getting off the train by 7am and they might not have docked or got clearance by that time. If it is stated as 7-30am train time on Cunard excursion then I dont think you should have anything to worry about.

Hi thank you I’d not thought of that, but just relooked on Cunard and it says the excursion is at 7.30 so I am assuming that is the time the train leaves. I’ve also rung the train company direct and they have said that cruise ships block book tickets from them in the hope that they will sell them to their passengers which is not fair to independent travellers. The lady I spoke to was very helpful and said as we’d paid for the cancellation insurance, if we ask onboard for an arrival time and it looks like we may not make it in time they will refund us.

  6. Hi all, we’re seasoned cruisers and 9/10 opt to book our own excursions rather than pay the extortionate cruise line price. I’ve booked my husband and I on the 7.30 am scenic flam railway trip through the company’s own website at a much lower price than Cunard. Cunard are also running this trip at 7.30 am. My question is if anyone else has booked this time either independently or through Cunard. I’m a little concerned if we’re late in port and not many passengers have booked we may miss the trip - safety in numbers is my philosophy! Thank you

  7. Hi all

We are cruising on the Caribbean Princess in July 2 weeks around the Med. can anyone give me up to date prices on drinks packages, alcoholic and also soda? Do you have to buy for the length of the cruise, or can they be taken out for say just one of the weeks.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

  8. Thanks so much for attaching the drinks bundles choices, I haven't been able to find these anywhere, just the complete AI price of the 4 of us over the whole week, which to be honest I don't think we would get our money's worth from. However, opting for the separate packages would probably work really well for us - thanks again.

  9. 1. There will be other Costa cruiser on your Emirates flight, but most will not be CC members. Just grab a taxi at the airport (there are dirt cheap) and head for the ship, boarding will be no problem. Passengers can come and go as they please upto sailig time.

    2. There are various drinks packages available onboard - see attached. I think the best bet is the AI.

    3. Check with Costa with regards to your flight, self disembarkation. Costa normally has a shuttle available that connects with the various flight. Taxs are always plentiful at the cruise terminal.

Thanks for this. Its really helpful to know we wont be the only ones arriving in the dead of night. Weve always travelled as part of an organised package, this is the first time we've done it alone and I've started panicking it's all going to go horribly wrong!!

  11. Hi All

A couple of questions if I may?

    1) Our flight arrives into Dubai 2330 on Friday evening, I have been told by Costa that we can go straight to the ship and check in - even though by the time we get to the port it could be 1 am - is anyone else on this flight? It is Emirates from Heathrow. I'd just feel easier about it if I knew there was going to be other passengers arriving at the same time as us!

    2) We are unsure whether to purchase the AI. Does anyone know from experience whether Costa also offer wine, beer or soda packages seperately once on board?

    3) We fly home 0830 on the following Friday morning which will mean an early departure from the ship, may as early as 0500. Does anyone have experience of very early departure and if so, can we keep our luggage in the cabin and just walk off with it ourselves when we check out, or does it still have to go through some kind of security process.

    Hope you can help.

  12. Do Costa allow self embarkation where you walk off with your own luggage on the last day?

    Hi All

Did you get any replies to this question Edinburghgirl1? We have a very ealr flight back departing Dubai at 0830 so we need to leave the ship approx 0500 to get to the airport, check in etc. Does anyone know if this is ok with the staff, i.e. that we just keep our luggage in the our cabin and walk off with it, or does it have to go through some kind of security process? Any guidance greatly received.
