  1. We are taking the August 30th cruise on Queen of the West. Can someone tell us how to get a rental car at the end of the cruise in Portland?

    Thanks,

We took American Queen out of Vancouver. TA got us a great one way price from Budget from Lewiston to Vancouver. Budget was located at Vancouver Sears. You are on your own for transportation as Sears had only one employee. Saved quite a bit as no airport fee, low daily rate (24 clock hours) and unlimited mileage. BTW non-airport sites are closed on Sunday.

  2. AQSC seems to less than forthcoming on itinerary changes. Read that recent Mississippi River cruise was "changed" the day before sailing because of high water making it impossible to pass under bridges. The new schedule involves cruising in a circle with stops at nondescript ports. Also required changes in flights. Apparently only nominal reimbursements.

Apparently I-84 was closed because flames were crossing the highway. Also of concern are the record high temperatures in the area. Not sure how many alternatives there are in the area. Apparently the cruise already stops at every port.

  3. Have to agree that available information is sparse. Unfortunately, the cruise line is not much help. We are scheduled for October 1, 2017. Was looking at the list of add-on excursions and it does not come close to matching the list that is on the purchase list. The excursions are apparently developed/handled by another (related?) company. The cruise line unconvincingly says that the (buy) list is the correct one. I am finding that the AAA travel guides provide the most complete local information.

  4. Flew AirNZ Premium Economy yesterday from AKL to LAX. Flight was okay. Good thing was bags tagged priority, 2 bags included on fare, the first off at LAX. Food was adequate, beverages, snacks available all flight .Seating was good. Original seating was on left side but moved to center after take off as flight was not full. I usually fly on the side which I find more spacious. The only advantages of flying Business is Koru club access and lie flat seats. If you have a membership with a Star Alliance Club you can access the Koru Club. The lie flat seats in my opinion are to short and narrow for comfort. Bottom line I will continue to fly PE.

ANZ no longer fly 747's, all flights are 777-300 on the LAX to AKL route.

Were you able to check your bags from original boarding city or did you have to claim them in LA and recheck them?

    Thanks

  5. We are planning a cruise to New Zealand. There is discussion that HAL has shuttles from the ship to town and back. They seem to run $15; but, are not listed on the excursions. Is anyone aware if these shuttles are running and what ports they operate in. Thanks

  6. Instead of keeping your extra pens or vials in the medical center, you might want to get yourself a FRIO Pack. You soak the liner till it swells some, it has polymer beads in it, and put your vials or pens in there, then slip it in a fabric cover. You can carry it in a purse or carryon like this, and also keep it in your cabin, hotel room, etc. It will keep the items at a safe temperature for four or more days. Don't let it totally dry out. Then you soak the liner again (it takes less time if it isn't dry). I've been using one for years, and you could ask for more references on the Disability section.

Where do you get a Frio Pack? Well, I can't recommend a place, but Uncle Google is your friend  They come in all sizes from those for one or two pens to those carrying several vials.
