  1. I am from Houston and the weather varies from day to day. Generally 70s to low 80s during day & 60s at night. We've had a lot of Spring showers rolling in off the gulf as the day heats up, so if anything, pack a windbreaker/hoodie for late nights on the upper decks and a travel umbrella.

  2. Can an experienced user of these cards give a brief recap of what you're buying and how you use it for, or on, your cruise.

I just used several of these in 2 different ways. Bought 2 $500 ones & used as a payment on our Vista cruise. For each $500 I paid $450.

Do this for each payment & it adds up.

On my October cruise with friends I bought 2 & put them on my account at customer service after boarding. I then played in the casino, did a spa treatment, bought some spa items & had a few drinks, all charged to my account. Easy $100 savings.

  3. I do agree and see your point. But he was given many chances and chose the do nothing, fail, let's look at my iPad ,iPhone approach instead .. mom gave him a month to turn it around they laid down the law , they talked they negotiated so thry gave him the month , he promised and did nothing. He does need someone to follow through. It does seem harsh and I feel horrible I don't want to alienate him but summer school is now his only hope. School is way more important so he can get his diploma next year then some cruise. It will probably crush him, he lives for vacations but honestly he goes and he takes off on us an argues with us when we ask for him to simply have dinner on the trip with us. He only wants us when no one else does and he's also very entitled thinking. It might be a wake up call and the reward could be when he graduates we will repeat the trip? Idk like I said I am torn..

We have 2 girls & have stayed in an adjoining cabin with the door open. (They were 12 & 10 last time) We loved it! It gave us more room & quite honestly less stress. I would absolutely not cancel the family vacation as no one else should suffer for his poor choices.

Hearing about his general attitude I would also threaten to pull the China trip if he doesn't turn around not only in school, but socially with how he acts with you all.

On a separate note, I understand wanting to push him to do summer school to graduate on time, but it doesn't sound like he is mature/responsible enough for college anyway. Maybe it's a wise choice to let him repeat a year, suffer the consequences , & then maybe he will be more mature & prepared for college.

  4. I have 2 daughters 12 &10 & they have been on 5 cruises with us. It is our favorite family vacation because we are what I call "lazy vacationers". We like to relax & with cruising they tale you to a port drop you off, feed you, take you to the next port, etc.

You can get a cabin for 5. With the NCL 1/2 price special, or Royal Caribbean's BOGO you can get a fairly good deal for the 5 of you. Remember, it includes, food & entertainment, etc & is generally much less than an all-inclusive resort.

We love the Royal Caribbean kids clubs because they have many activities. Their ships also have great activities for kids including ice skating, rock climbing, boogie boarding, put-put golf, plus a variety of appropriate shows.

We also did Disney when the girls were younger. Not as much for adults (no casino) but lots for kids, fantastic service, but more expensive. Carnival we found to have worse food quality.

Last year we planned a Spring Break cruise with our friends (39 people including 22 kids) & everyone had a great time & thought it was a fantastic value.

The larger RCI ships are our favorite as they have more on board. You have great Cruise options out of Houston.

  5. We just did a family group cruises on "X" last month. There were 46 of us. We had several tables next to each other for 6 and 8 and we just round-robined every evening. We enjoyed that much more then fewer, but larger tables. One table for 12 is not very conducive to conversation, especially if it's an oblong table, conversation ends up being 2 groups of 6.

We have a group of 40 in 2 weeks. Did the staff give you any problems with switching around each night?

  6. I have traveled on both Allure & Oasis with my 2 daughters (6&8 first time) (8&10 2nd time). My daughters absolutely LOVE these ships.

    Advice:

    1) register for kids club & RCI phones/pager from kids club as soon as you get on board.

    2) prebook all shows online before the cruise (typically about 90 days out)

    3) fill in with any specialty dinner -book online in advance. Our kids loved the variety in the kids clubs ( kids rotate through activities & rooms), so take a night for a nice dinner alone in 150 Central Park or Chops Grille.

    4) Don't forget to pack a pair of long pants& socks so they can ice skate ( must cover ankles)

    5) avoid the Windjammer on boarding day. We found it to be the only day you really feel the crowds. Try lunch at Park Cafe (great hot roast beef sandwiches)

    6) Enjoy!

  7. Have sailed Oasis twice & Allure once. If you are not doing a suite consider one of the last Boardwalk balconies. It's our favorite stateroom on these ships with a view of the ocean, boardwalk, Rockwell, zipline & prime seats for all the Aquatheater shoes & activities. Anytime we were in the room, the girls were out on the balcony. It's the most used balcony we have ever had.

Our girls love all the activities on the ship & were 10 & 8. Here are some photos of the view from the last room, deck 8. ImageUploadedByForums1420437229.650961.jpg.6939327977850ca99e73c14b5eec096a.jpg

  8. We have cruised twice on Oasis & once on Allure with our 2 daughters. Our favorite room is the last ( or one of the last) Boardwalk Balcony cabins, deck 8-11. You have a great view of all the activities on the Boardwalk as well as the Aquatheater, rock walls & ocean. The balcony was truly an extension of our room & our girls loved hanging out there anytime we were in the room. Here are a couple of pics. ImageUploadedByForums1420436376.981897.jpg.744f5a9eb97b2e2014d9b437854fb142.jpg. There are several shows & activities that take place at the Aquatheater & you have prime seats!

  9. If you do take your mom, consider getting her a walker that has a seat. My mom is 73, had triple bypass & a valve replacement, but she is still a huge cruiser. Her legs have significant circulation issues, so she has gotten much slower. It is amazing how having a walker to lean on helps her get around on the ship on bad days. If she needs a break, she can sit down. (They are about $100 for a deluxe model that folds. She has a pretty pearl rose colored one. ) she takes 30-40 day cruises each year & the walk her helps her SO much! At first she was resistant to it, but now she realizes that it increases her ability to explore. Good luck to you & your mom.

I'd hold off to see how she is doing right before the cruise. It should definitely give her something to look forward to as she heals and increases her stamina post surgery.

  10. Did you look at other balcony cabin categories, such as boardwalk balcony? They are often less than the regular oceanviews on Oasis & Allure. We have been on them twice & boardwalk balcony cabins as far aft as possible have a great view of boardwalk activities, Aquatheater activities & the water! Our girls absolutely love all the activities on these ships. (Went when they were 7&5, and10 &8 ). Plus they have an amazing kids club program where the kids rotate from room to room for activities. Our kids were begging to go!

  11. I've been having problems as well. I called RCI & our 12-13-14 sailing dining has not opened up yet. You might try calling directly to make your reservation...they are very helpful. . It's much easier.

On a previous cruise, their website has had issues with a particular browser (likeFirefox). If your dining has opened up, & you aren't able to check out, try a different web browser.

  12. Is Hyatt Fort Lauderdale Airport Hotel the same thing as Hyatt Place? Any word on how good their Trio Suites are? There will be 4 or 5 of us staying in the room for the night and their 2 bedroom suite with a pull out couch seemed like a good deal at $339.00 (We'll be going just before Christmas)

    Any comments?

    Thanks in advance!

We booked Hyatt Place Airport & Cruise Terminal for $72 on Priceline under their Express Seals for 12-12-14. You might want to try Priceline.

  13. Though this it what many cruisers do however it's important to note that if the bath/shower water runs too long the cabin smoke detectors read the steam as smoke resulting in the alarm to go off and security/fire personnel appear in the cabin room instantly. This was the situation when I did this on my last cruise. Not a pleasant experience.

This happened to my stepdaughter on the Navigator this March. We've used a portable steamer for years with no problem. She is 6' tall & got too close to the smoke detectors. Security shows up, steamer confiscated, she was scolded. No fun!
