  1. With CCL there are several ways to get a good discount. Everyone has there own opinion, here's mine: I use a CCL PVP who has been very good to us. We usually book the early saver rate which allows us to get any discounts available up until a week before the cruise. We also purchase the $100 vouchers while on board which we use on our next cruise (you DO NOT need to book a cruise at the time you purchase a voucher). The $100 you paid for the voucher goes towards your overall payment plus you get $100 OBC. Vouchers are good for 2 years and can be turned in for a full refund. Watch for the current reules because CCL has a tendency to change them as time goes on. As far as checking the rates I look at both *********** and CCL's websites to price cabins. If you have interline privileges then a CCL PVP can help you. We also have friends who gamble on the ships and they get a discount for that (not sure what it is or how much they spend on gambling).

Don't forget that by buying 100 shares of CCL stock you can get shipboard credit on every cruise line owned by Carnival. That is well worth the price of the stock, if you cruise a lot. I cruised a lot with the navy and Coast Guard but never did get cruise credits for that, dang it!!!:D

  2. Is there anywhere in particular that you can see listings of upcoming military appreciation or veterans cruises? I was looking for something on Carnival, but when I enter the search term at the Carnival site, it comes back with an entry from 2007 (that doesn't work).

The site we use is the Armed Forces Vacation Club dot com. They have space A places all over the world and can probably help with cruises. The one thing I've noticed about a bunch of vets/retirees getting together is that all our stories get better with time and you had better not be standing near a fan.;):D:eek:

  3. I believe it applies only to active duty and their dependents. On the Continental website, it states 'active us military personnel'. It doesn't matter whether your traveling on orders or leisure. Dependents receive this benefit when traveling with the military member. Unfortunately, retired members are not eligible.

Us retirees never die, we just fade away. Most civilians have no idea what color shows whether we're active or retired. :D

  4. Wearing my class A uniform was great, but it sure added a lot of weight in the suitcase, so I bought a white dinner jacket and tux pants and just wear my miniature medals. Now I don't have to bring my uniform cover and worry about where to put it (no hat racks).

You could even wear your miniatures on a suit and that would be acceptable too. For veteran's meetings I wear a baseball cap showing my service. With Princess I get cruise credits starting at $100 for a 7 day cruise and on Veteran's Day they had a super program hosted by the Captain of the ship.

  5. We won a free dinner in the Italian restaurant aboard the Sapphire Princess, and nothing was as good as what was served in the International dining room. We were very disappointed, but it was free. As far as the tenderness of any steak, the rarer the steak the more tender it is. Any well done steak can be used for shoe leather.:D:D
