  1. We visited Bonaire on March 9 and took a wonderful tour with Hans Voerman. (hansoutdoor@hotmail.com) We chose the 4 hour tour which covered the entire island for a flat $216 whether you had 1, 2, 3 or 4 passengers. One word of caution - his truck is not real big so you have to be real friendly with 3 in the back seat. Two or three would be perfect.

Hans was most professional and really gives a local's view of the island, what it has been and where it is going. More than just a guide, he is a historian as well as a naturalist. We stopped several times to view special little bits of nature which he explained in detail.

If you are not going the beach I would highly recommend Hans. He also does more strenuous and varied tours such as kayaking in the mangroves, caving & hiking so you could customize you day as you wish.

  2. The tricky part is getting off and on but none of us had a problem after doing it several times. I don't think we hit any patches of soft/deep sand on our tour.

We still totally endorse the tour and hope to do a different Segway tour when in Antigua next February.

  3. We had one guy out of our group of 16 that fell twice but I have to say that he was very reckless and was pushing the limits of his skill on the Segway. He, like the rest of us, was a first timer but was trying (I think) to impress the folks he came with from a hotel. Our guide says they do have trouble with groups getting out of hand and trying semi-extreme stunts on the machine.

If you just go and stay within your limits you will have no problems and have a blast. By the end of the tour you will be doing things you would never have imagined on the Segway when starting out a couple of hours earlier.

  4. We just got off Celebrity Constellation and did the Segway tour in Antigua on 4 February. We booked it directly (they have no contracts with any cruise line) and paid $59 each plus $7.50 each for the round trip taxi. I won't repeat all the details and positive comments made by others but can verify that this is one high quality and fun tour.

We are 66 & 67 and had absolutely no problem learning to ride the Segway; after about 15 minutes all of our concerns just melted away. The technology is fantastic and very much worth experiencing if you have not done ridden one previously.

When our tour was finished 14 of the 16 person group wanted to stay at the beach for an hour or so but we wanted to go back to the ship. Juliette, the manager/partner of the firm, took us straight away in her car. She and our two guides were absolutely professional, very safety conscious and great fun to be around.

    You can't beat this tour.
