  1. Those passengers that partake in the whole world cruise benefit from having their gratuities pre-paid. Also anyone that is on board for a certain number of days decided by Cunard to constitute a World Cruise also benefit from the same. The number of days necessary is normally found somewhere in the blurb where it will say something like hotel charges.

  2. Thanks for the info John - but why isn't this info clearly stated in the brochure and on Cunard's website? Nothing about the World Cruise Collection in the VP

This was similar for this years WC. We pre-ordered our drinks using the ‘gift’ area on the VP prior to boarding, to find they offered a greater selection onboard as the ‘World Cruise Collection’, with larger packages owing to the length of the cruise.

  3. Can someone point me in the right direction ?

I am trying to look at the wine packages for our upcoming cruise.

Have looked on the VP but I cannot find it.

Usually available on the VP under gifts ? Also try Ask Cunard, their is normally a pdf file giving examples of the Captains and Commodores packages.

  4. "Prices are quoted in US Dollars and inclusive of 15%% service charge..

Your World Voyage Wine Collection will be added to your on board account and you will

receive a voucher booklet to redeem your purchases.. Bottles from your wine collection can be

enjoyed in any restaurant on board or delivered directly to your stateroom.. Please advise your

     preference when booking.."

This was the situation this year and I would assume that it will be available for next years World Cruise. Are details available on your Voyage Personaliser ? I seem to recall I had to telephone Southampton to order in advance of joining the ship for the normal Captain's and Commodore's selections, but the World Cruise Collection was available to book on boarding with options up to 48 bottles. I'm sure you will not have a problem, there will be sommeliers waiting for you when you board ?

  5. Hi Brell,

Prior to this years World Cruise only the Captain's Collection and Commodore's Wine Collection were available for purchase before boarding the QM2. We purchased these by phoning Southampton as instructed on the Voyage personaliser.

The vouchers for the number of bottles ordered were presented to us by our Sommelier on the first evening but after a couple of days they announced a 'World Cruise Wine Collection' which could only be purchased on-board ship. The World Cruise Collection gave us a choice from a larger list of wines. After discussion we were allowed to choose our bottle from either collection as we pleased.

AFAIK the World Cruise Collection is only available when on the World Cruise.

  6. They had an upgrade when the ship was updated yet the same old story applies. Sometimes it is so slow that you cannot even tell that you have logged yourself out. The price is about 50 bucks for 120 minutes.

There are terminals available in the internet centre and the library but most people use their own devices.

If you are a diamond loyalty member then you get 120 minutes free time.

    Overall still pretty disappointing.

We had 480 minutes EACH free as Diamond members recently. Worth checking !

  7. I know this has probably been answered several times but I can't fine an up to date thread. Does anyone know the best way to use mobile phones and internet whilst at sea? Necessary to keep in touch as we have an elderly father who is not well.

Consider using text messages ? Ask your relatives or whoever to send you a text messages first. Remember they are free to receive, and then if anything urgent occurs you can then make the choice ?

Also if you have any internet time you could also try Skype or other VOIP services. These can allow you to make telephone calls using the ships internet system at reasonable cost.

  8. I was upgraded on a segment of the WV but I have not heard of anyone upgraded for the full voyage.

Similarly, we have been upgraded on a segment but never for the whole world cruise.

  9. Received the latest Cunarder and Xmas card through the post last week.

As Ray66 says the article on the TS Queen Mary was very interesting, and it's good to see Ronnie Keir keeping his arm in !

We caught a glimpse of the TS Queen Mary in Greenock on our round Britain trip this year.

  10. If you are gold (or above) you will get your free internet minutes on leaving Southampton and then you will get them again for the New York to San Francisco segment. There will also likely be a cocktail party on each segment.

    Hi Kathi,

Although Internet is awarded per sector, there was a rumour that unused minutes may soon not be able to be carried over from sector to sector. Also the Captain's Cocktail parties last year were once per cruise and not per sector.

We received a letter on boarding detailing our CWC benefits. CWC parties were also once per cruise (World Cruise parties were still roughly per sector for those doing the whole trip, but I seem to recall there were not as many as 2015).

Things have changed, but I didn't mention cutbacks ? ;)

  11. Does anyone know the approx road ,area where the shuttle bus will drop us off in Madeira. Thanks

Last time we visited we were dropped off on Avenue Arriega outside the Marina Shopping Centre, which is close to the Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias in the centre of Funchal.

  12. We have been to Muscat 3 times on world cruises and it's one of our favorites. The sultan has done wonders for the area and his people. Be sure to take a tour that includes the stunning Grand Mosque and then walk through the large, clean souk that is directly on the harbor. As you enter the harbor, look for the gigantic white incense burner sitting on a hill that is the monument for the sultanate of Muscat. It's stunning and can be seen from all over the town. (You can google "incense burner, Muscat, Oman" to see many photos).

Many thanks for your insight Patti, Cunard have moved very quickly and the excursions for Muscat and Limassol are now online.

  13. Hi Lin & Kathi,

Great to hear from you both again. As soon as I found out about the change I emailed Maggie and JT to see if they would be around when we call into Limassol. Unfortunately they will be elsewhere, but JT said Muscat was a great port as had been subsequently confirmed by others. I know some were a little disappointed with our stop in Salalah and said Muscat was much better, so hopefully now we will find out.

Kathi afaik Egypt has not been visited since 2014, we certainly didn't on 2015, passing through Suez at nighttime owing to a potential closure problem when another ship grounded. BTW we have booked the whole trip :-)

    Best wishes

  14. I have just received the following information from our TA regarding the cancellation of Egyptian calls.

Due to security concerns in Safaga and Sharm el Sheikh, Cunard have decided to replace these ports of call with visits to Oman’s capital, Muscat and the beautiful city of Limassol, situated on the southern coast of Cyprus.

In order to accommodate these changes, it has been necessary for us to amend the date of the call in to Aqaba. The revised section of the itinerary is now as follows:-

20/04/17 Muscat, Oman – Arrive early morning & Depart afternoon

21/04/17 At sea for 4 Days

25/04/17 Aqaba, Jordan – Arrive morning & Depart evening

    26/04/17 At sea

27/04/17 Suez, Egypt - Arrive early morning, Cruise by, Depart early morning

Suez Canal – Arrive early morning, Cruise by, Depart afternoon

Port Said, Egypt – Arrive early evening, Cruise by, Depart early evening

28/04/17 Limassol, Cyprus – Arrive early morning, Depart early evening

I have heard good reports from friends who have visited Muscat and of course Cyprus is always worth a visit.

  16. I haven't attended the CC Meet and Greets the last number of crossings, as I've been aboard with other people and just couldn't break away from all that eating and relaxing... That said, I did attend a number of them back in 2006 and 2007 and met new friends whom I consider good friends now and we see each other at sea and on land. So there's certainly a real value to them.

Thanks for the input John. We find it more difficult to attend the meetings if we are actually travelling in company with friends, as they are not interested in the meetings at all.

However as you say, we find there is normally a real value when travelling solo, so to speak, as long as there isn't conflict with something more interesting on the program ?
