  1. We just returned from an Alaskan cruise on the Emerald Princess. Pre-cruise we read all the suggestions about what to pack; layers, rain gear, etc. We were prepared!!

We had seven days of sunshine and not a drop of rain. The temps were between high sixties and mid-eighties. The natives kept telling us they couldn't believe what was happening. It's the rainy season!! The water was like sailing on a lake every day.

We saw whales, bears, eagles, sea lions, etc. It was a dream cruise. I wish you all the same but still pack for normal weather. This was a fluke.

We will be on the Emerald the middle of August, would you be able to post the patters?

  2. Hopefully everyone who lives in the Houston area that's on board has been able to contact neighbors or family to find out what has affected them personally. The parking lots are already flooded at this point; there's nothing that can be done. There's no way to secure one's property at this point. If I lived in the Houston area (and I have immediate family in League City), I'd be relieved to have the opportunity to stay on the ship. It beats a shelter for sure, and there's no way to get back to Houston regardless of where you debark. Airports, highways, trains, etc. remain closed. I would contact someone that lived in my area, prepare myself for what was to come, and keep buying Cheers!...it's the last opportunity that those folks will have to relax for a very long time. It's a horrible situation.

By brother is in Galveston right now & has confirmed so far the parking lots have not flooded. Some of the parking lots have people staying there 24 hours a day & they have pumps ready to pump out the lots. My brother also told me that wreckers were used to move a few cars that parked in low lying areas to keep water from getting in them. It appears the parking lots are doing all they can to keep cars from flooding.

  3. Actually, there's a quite nice, and unused, cruise ship terminal at Bayport for one ship, and I'm not sure how much container service the Barber's Cut terminal around the corner is doing these days, so they could probably use at least one berth there.

And the Houston ship channel takes ships that are longer, wider, and deeper than cruise ships all the time.

The Bayport cruise terminal no longer exist. They sold the building a few months ago.

  4. A coworker of mine lives in Beaumont, TX. They are experiencing Tropical Storm force winds, and his house in the process of going under right now. He's on higher ground and safe, but he's watching as he slowly loses everything. :(

Yes it has been a trying time for all of us experiencing all of the flooding. I work for an Ear, Nose, Throat & Allergy clinic with 12 locations in Houston & surrounding cities. We have patients with emergencies that we can not help. Several hospitals have been evacuated so it is hard for us to tell them where to go. Several of our doctors have had their houses flooded & lost everything.

Cajun Navy posts: We weren't attacked, we haven't "regrouped"

At least two Cajun Navy leaders have denied claims that they're regrouping or leaving Texas because some of the volunteers were shot at in Houston this week. One leader says the allegations are holding up her efforts to dispatch assistance to those in need.

Clyde Cain was quoted in the media as saying he heard that one of his crews was shot at by alleged looters. Houston Police were involved, he said. However, Houston authorities say they have no reports of any such incident, the Associated Press reports.

Cain's original post on Louisiana Cajun Navy about the incident has been removed, but a video on the news coverage so far on this incident is still on the page.

As of 8 minutes ago the Louisiana Cajun Navy is still performing rescues in Houston & surrounding cities. You can follow them on Facebook to get accurate information.

  6. Please, if you are not being affected by hurricane Harvey like we are do not spread rumors. There have been no shooting of rescue workers. Everyone is helping each other like we have never seem before. Our neighborhood is under mandatory evacuation so we went to our daughters house. If her house floods at least we are with her & our 3 grandchildren. The pictures below are real pictures.

  7. Yes, we have had sprinkes and drizzle off and on since Thursday from Harvey. Looks like we are about to get in the thick of it soon in central Louisiana. Bunch of yellow coming.

I stocked up, but my teens are eating through everything. I am making big homemade pots of things like tamale balls, Chicken and sausage gumbo, red beans and rice. The grocery was a zoo yesterday (ran in to pick up meds) so I have no idea what will be available today/tomorrow if I have to go back.

I am surrounded by bayous, but personally I am high and dry. DH and son are returning from New Orleans today and then we will hunker down.

We live in Sugar Land Texas which is about 12 miles south of Houston. We have had about 22 inches rain but our house is not flooded. We live close to the Brazos River so we are keeping an eye on it. Stay safe.

  8. Which parking lot specifically?

He said all parking lots are dry. Galveston has not has as much rain as Houston & other surrounding cities have had so far. We don't know what the future holds with the rain though. I will keep you updated if I hear anything different.

  9. For anyone who's car is parked in Galveston, my brother went to the parking lots & there is no water. The owner of some of the lots has been sleeping there & has pumps ready if they need to keep water out of the lots. That is a dedicated business owner.

  10. My brother has been in Galveston since Thursday waiting to get on the Breeze. He now lives north of Dallas but we grew up in Friendswood which is a little north of Galveston & we are used to flooding. He knew the possibility of being stranded on Galveston Island when he made the decision to drive there on Thursday. He has a great attitude & is going with the flow. I just talked to him & he said if they don't get to cruise he knows it will be for the safety of all passengers. He is not upset with Carnival or the Port of Galveston. My brother is the type that will make lemonade out of lemons.

  11. The whole city of Houston & surrounding city's are closed because of flooding. The run ways at Hobby airport are under water. I know this because I live south of Houston. Even if the cruise ships can dock there is no way people will be able to get out of Galveston. Our rain is supposed last until Wednesday. The people on the cruise ships are not stranded. They have food water & a place to sleep. The people in Houston that have been rescued from flooded houses are stranded. Please keep these people in your prayers.
