  1. I am trying to figure out the OBC I have on my next Celebrity cruise. The code on my invoice is stated under "other" and is listed as "TDC9". There is no amount shown.

I know I can ask my T/A for clarification, but she won't be in until Monday & I am really curious to know asap.

    TIA ~

  2. My situation mirrors so many that I have read here. Very helpful of all you to share, for sure.

DH and I cruised for most of 50+ married years; we had 4 booked in 2020, that needless to say were cancelled. I lost my husband last year, without taking another cruise.

One of his final wishes was that I continue to cruise. This issue was forced when he decided on a burial at sea. That being said, 5 friends are joining me soon (final payment already made) for a friends cruise. I know it will be a difficult time to start solo cruising, but it's a start in honoring his wishes.

Also, to comply with the burial at sea request, I am taking our children and grands on a cruise this summer for DH's final cruise. We are sailing on Royal, as that is how we did family cruises before, and I understand they have a very nice program to accommodate this plan. By the way, DH and I planned this together (not the date) by purchasing the appropriate container and making sure that we have all the documentation required to do this.

Sorry for the long post, once I start typing, it just keeps going on and on. Also sorry if I have offered TMI for this group. It's therapeutic for me. Hope it may be helpful to someone else, as well.

  3. hi Carole

Why don't you just call me. We need a get together anyway. I've stayed in the so called obstructive view on the S class ships.

Geez, will it take CC for me to see you and Al again?

Hey Nancy. On hold with Celebrity, right now! Been on hold for 25 minutes.

Just finished my booking; will give you the details later tonight. Got a nice price for a 14 nighter with a residence discount.

  4. I haven't been on the boards for a very long time. I remember certain informational posts that were permanent, regarding specific classes of cabins; as the look of the boards have changed so much, I can't find the posts. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

Specifically, what I am looking for is information on the obstructed view balcony cabins on the Reflection. We are booking closer than we usually do, so there seem to be only obstructed balconies available midship. DH has mobility issues, so the middle of the ship, lower decks (6-8) are the safest for him. Any advice regarding how bad the obstructions are would be of great help to us.

    TIA

  6. Thanks everyone for your input. For the 8 of us, it would be 3 cars, not 2, plus luggage. I did look into a few websites, but forgot about A-1. I think they are near Quakerbridge Mall; if so, we are less than 20 miles away. Definitely a better option than a NY based company.

It's possible that we may wind up driving, but I'm going to look a little bit more before deciding.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

  7. Hi All,

I'm having a problem trying to arrange transportation for our family cruise in August. We are 6 adults, one teenager and an 8 year old, heading to Bermuda on the Anthem.

I thought a small or mini-van would work for us, but cannot find any help online. Does anyone know a company who can accommodate us for this trip?

Any advice or suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

    Carole

  8. I have found in the past that big box stores, like Sam's, are considered wholesale clubs and do not qualify as supermarkets.

Unless one of our cards has travel as its quarterly 5% bonus item, we use the AARP credit cards. They give 3% back on any travel purchases. I accidentally found out that this included commuter train travel, as well. I don't believe the points expire. When we first got the cards, they were giving 5% on all purchases, with no cap, for the 1st 6 months. We racked up quite a large bonus. :D

  9. Hi,

We are a group of 5 needing a mini bus to transport us from Exit 8/8A, to the pier. Due to the fact that some of this group must have several pairs of shoes per day, we are anticipating about 15 pieces of luggage, including carry on bags. The problem is not so much the luggage, but the necessity to take a rollator (walker with a seat) along for the ride.

Any ideas? We checked with a few limo people, but they all say we can't be accomodated in anything smaller than a mini-bus. Unfortunately, no one knew who we could call.

We are leaving in less than 2 weeks and I'm in lots of trouble for waiting this long. Oops.

Any help you can provide will be most appreciated.

  10. We always thought St. Maarten shopping was second, only to St. Thomas for duty free shopping value.

Surprise, surprise. We were bamboozled by Boolchand's, at the Waterfront location. I admit that we made an impulse buy, and did not do any research prior to purchasing a camera from this store.

We did check the price of the camera when we returned home, and to our dismay, the list price they showed us on our Panasonic DMC-ZS40 wifi camera with viewfinder, was $100 higher than Amazon and Best Buy, in the states. They also sold us a very overpriced Ultra SD card. They said they were giving us a great deal, and couldn't take off another dollar from the pricing.

We wrote to them and explained the situation, asking to return the camera on our next trip (4 months from purchase to return to St. Maarten); even allowing for the 15% restocking fee mentioned on their receipt, the pricing difference still saved us a lot of money.

Of course, we never heard a word from them. We will never spend a penny with them again!!

Has anyone experienced a similar situation? If so, how was it resolved?

  12. Radio, thanks so much for once again posting a fantastic travelogue. We are enjoying the revisiting of the different venues on board. It is helping to keep the excitement alive until we board again in April.

Glad to read that you are feeling better and able to enjoy St. Maarten.

We didn't do any Windjammer dinners the last time we were on the "Q", what type of entrees did they offer? More importantly, where are they hiding the ice cream? :D

Wishing you smooth seas for the last leg of your vacation.

  13. Um, no. The low they sailed through was the storm that came through a couple of days ago. The storm that will cause the blizzard in the NE, hasn't even formed yet. It's a clipper coming through the mid-atlantic and will form a new low that will become the nor'easter/blizzard.

We sailed back to Baltimore in March of last year following three separate lows that brought snow to the mid-atlantic and we had 30+ foot seas for over 12 hours on our next to last sea day. Those lows can cause widespread heavy seas.

We were on that same cruise last March. It cracked the running track over the pool deck. Not fun.
