This is refreshing news, especially in light of some of the negative threads that's been going on recently on CC. I hope Azamara has a bright future going forward.

I should have stated the cruise we are sailing on. It is Copenhagen to Stockholm beginning August 1st, 2015. I'd love to get the laptop, along with several other electronic goodies, but really have no reason to buy one except being a gadget freak. The wife would club me over the head if I bought another gadget. We rarely travel and this cruise will likely be our last. We cruised with Azamara in 2011 and found the folks on the Quest were real friendly. I bet I'll be able to sweet talk someone into letting me use their laptop. If Azamara does not offer this service of photo transfer via a simple USB port in their photo shop, I am surprised. It seems many would love to be able to backup their camera memory cards unto a flash drive. They could even sell the drives, maybe card readers too, and charge for the service also.

I agree with the above comment. I doubt the computer staff will be able to accomodate, but I suspect the photo department *might* be able to assist - for a fee. If the files are very large, it would likely be very costly, and that's IF they can assist.

 

To the OP : I'd absolutely go with the card reader option, and transfer the photos to your laptop daily. If your hard drive is large enough, I'd then back up the files as well, or possibly back up with a large USB flash drive or external hard drive. Fortunately, they are all very small, and relatively inexpensive options !

Thanks but as I stated in the original post, I do not own a laptop or tablet with a USB port. I can't see buying a laptop just to use on a cruise.This is why I'm asking if Azamara would provide the service. Who knows, perhaps I'll meet someone on the ship with a device and I'll provide the card reader and flash drive. The process is real simple, just need some time to do the transferring of files. They run from 24 megs to 30 megs each in RAW format.

I usually find that they do not have a way of doing this -- sometimes the person in the computer area is helpful but sometimes well my limited skills are better than theirs.:rolleyes:

The media cards for cameras are not that expensive.)

 

I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III (I know, it's bulky and heavy but takes oh-so-cool pics). It takes CF memory which is fairly expensive and gobbles memory fast. It's not the cost of cards but the content on just one of them. We were in Istanbul in 2011 where I shot a few hundred photos which, to me, are priceless. I shudder to think how I'd still feel today if the card that held those photos were corrupted or lost. I could get a reader real cheap that'd fit in a small pocket in my suitcase, already have a high-capacity flash drive, and would only require a computer with photo software installed for download. Perhaps the ship's photo shop would accommodate me as was suggested.

We are sailing on the Quest in August 2015. Does Azamara provide a service of transferring photos via card reader to a flash drive that the customer would provide? I don't have a lap top or tablet device equipped with a USB port and would like to backup my cameras photos while on the cruise to a flash drive.
