I'd rather be stranded on the Splendor (in its current configuration) than any other Carnival ship. Best value for included meals. Hamburger kiosk better than Guy's ( they also have chicken), Tandoori kiosk with great Indian food, best deli sandwiches in the fleet, and a barbecue restaurant for lunch.

:(Obviously this was the summer /fall to be cruising South America. Some of the most delightful locations in the eastern Carribean will need years to fully recover.
-
Well. If it turns into a Hurricane by Saturday, it hopefully won't be too strong, and its focus will just be the Western Carribean. So our ships will divert to where? Maybe up the Mississippi?

Per the Weather Channel's Puerto Rico update the die-off across the island from lack of water, food, and air conditioning had begun. FEMA is doing the best it can, but with Texas, Florida, St Thomas, St Croix, and Puerto Rico all in crisis at once, we all need to donate to relief agencies NOW.
-
Repair crews from the rest of the united states would have to requisition ferries to carry their service trucks and crews to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Nothing like this has ever been attempted.
-
Krazy's advice is best, provide the South Carribean goes unstruck between now and when Hurricane season ends in November.

Probably can't tell you the timing for Cozumel yet because that port is still trying to figure out how many additional ships it can accommodate and when berths will be available. Remember, slots are contracted out almost a year in advance.

It was asked a way back if anyone is refusing to evacuate the Keys, the complete 10 person staff, and their 56 polydactylic cats, are staying behind in the Hemmingway House Museum located on Key West.. It is located 16 feet above the Atlantic, and is made of 18 inch thick limestone blocks. I hope there are survivors.

Hurricane cycles, like sunspot cycles, are rhythmic. A 1,000 year storm means 1 chance in a thousand it will occur EVERY year. The good coming out of Harvey and Irma is we are having it plainly pointed out that it should be illegal to build residential property, timeshares, or hotels within flood plains or within 1,000 feet of a shoreline.
-
Carnival doesn't either create or control hurricanes or airlines. They do control the operations of the 106 cruise ships they operate in their 10 brands. Considering the juggling they have had to do since Harvey, and the fact that all Carribean and Mexican and American port berths are reserved up to two years in advance, I'd say that Carnival is doing a great job.

I was mistaken..now I'm not sure...Victory?. Looked very pretty on television as the pilot boat escorted it out.
Still think its gotta be a somber sail away party out by the pool. People must be looking out at Miami and wondering what it could look like whenever the ship is able to return.
-
The Liberty just pulled out of Miami an hour ago with a significantly reduced passenger list. Wonder what the sail away party was like?

Carnival crews take their "fun ship" reputation seriously. You can either complain about being diverted from a scheduled port or decide to have the time of your life on board. I've experienced that on the Splendor. You are traveling with a good company.

82 days...first Platinum status cruise :-) on the Imagination
Love their vegetarian sushi with wasabi.

It is amazing how fast airlines do sort themselves out though. My wife and I were in Turkey for 9-11 when the US was closed to all air traffic. Worst possible scenario.

The good thing is order is being restored. Out here in California the Red Cross is collecting type O to fly to Texas.

Houston is now under a 10 p.m. curfew due to heavy looting and armed robberies. With the Guard now on place, the Houston police are free to go after looting crews. Longest possible sentences promised for all crominals captured so far, as well as future arrestees.

Thanks for sharing your adventure with us..hope your home came through in good shape.

Good news for cruisers. Hobby Airport reopens Wednesday morning, Bush International will be opening Thursday.
-
My sympathies to everyone who is now faced with rebooking. If you've had your trip planned for months or longer its gotta be disappointing.

Carnival Breeze currently docked in New Orleans. Passengers can walk around ashore while reprovisioning takes place. Love the cove balcony.

Thank you for finding and providing a link for Ball Four4 Aquahound. I'm computer illiterate and can't even successfully do links. I certainly wouldn't make things up.
On another topic, definitely, anyone who cruises and needs daily medication should take an extra few days worth, we also take a printout of our prescriptions that we can submit to the ship's doctor, a pharmacist, or a hospital just in case.
-
Ball Four, the reports of gunfire directed at rescuers were broadcast in an interview on the Weather Channel at 11:15 PST. The interviewee was a member of a rescue group called the Cajun Navy, which is also facing panicked people rushing their boats, swamping them.

Texas national guard sending 9,000 additional soldiers to disaster area. Rescuers are reporting coming under gunfire by looters and hijackers.
Which side of the ship to book to watch pier runners?

On the Breeze's 2nd Mediterranean cruise the same couple was late at Marseilles, and both western Italy ports. They missed the ship in Dubrovnik...the cruise director made the announcement during first seating and everyone cheered.
