Thanks, but I don't understand. Do you mean to not use ATM cards at banks or stand alone ATMS. What is the concern?
The independent gujides all seem to want cash. USD but cash.
How do balance the risk of carrying all that usd cash vs using ATMs.
Will ATMs give me usd or local currency.
At they all different local currencies?
Thanks

We are going on a multi island cruise (Dominican Republic, St. Kitts and Nevis, Guadeloupe, Martinique). I understand people take dollars but I don't want to carry too much cash. Do all these islands have ATM's. What currencies will they give me. Are the ATM's reliable? Can I get by with usd and one other currency?
I plan to use mostly private guides who insist on cash.

Yu might think about a land tour with a cruise portion. we worked with Myanmar Shalom to custom design the trip., Much cheaper than the cruises including internal air.

It appears that the biggest risk in a river cruise is that the river is too high or too low and the river cruise becomes a bus tour.
It appears that you almost never find out about this in advance. True?
Is it possible to insure against this?

Do you just get off the boat and wander or are there resources to help find the best local places?
Do you need to reserve in advance?

Thanks.
Are there any outstanding food opportunities along this route that we should be aware of?
Is there an easy way to investigate these?

Thanks.
Was the ship usually docked during each of these tours?
We are thinking of either the Danube for a week, or starting in Amsterdam and continuing onto the Danube for two weeks. Did you have an opinion of when is the best time to go?

My guess is that a typical day is
Morning bus tour 930 to 1130
lunch
PM bus tour 2 to 430
cocktails
dinner
possible evening entertainment
Is that about right?
Can you leave the boat in the morning and rejoin it later at the next stop?
Is it usually docked during tours or moving?

We are thinking about a seven day Danube Cruise (Nuremburg to Budapest), or possibly a 14 day cruise (Amsterdam to Budapest).
My impression of a typical day is:
morning tour 9 or 930 to 1130.
lunch
afternoon tour 2: 430
cocktails : 430 to 6
dinner 630 to730
possible evening entertainment.
Is that about right?
Is the boat usually docked during a tour or do you rejoin down the river?
Could I leave the boat and spend a day ashore privately and have a taxi take me to the next stop.

We are thinking about a seven day Danube Cruise (Nuremburg to Budapest), or possibly a 14 day cruise (Amsterdam to Budapest). We could do it anytime between May and August. When is the best weather for the touring experience? Do some seasons have higher risk of high or low water messing up the cruise? Any other advice?

We are thinking about the Aug expedition on the Orion (now National Geographic) around Kimberly and ending in Bali.
Anybody have any experience with this or similar trips?
The price is high (11000 USD and up for 14 nights). Is it worth it or are there better options?
Thanks

We are about to book this trip.
1) Are the cabins all about the same? Is there a noise problem with the category 1 cabins? Any other differences, preferences, cautions?
2) The cruise runs from Nov thru March. Any differences with temperature, rain, wildlife availability? Local holidays?
3) I am a very amateur photographer. Is a photo cruise really different from a non photo cruise?
Any other advice?
Thanks for your help.

I suggest you check out the Natural habitat polar bear programs in Churchill in the October to December time frame. Fantastic polar bear viewing and its all land.
