We are currently staying at the DoubleTree. This was our 3rd reservation as our first two hotels cancelled on us (Sheraton Old San Juan and Holiday Inn Express). The hotel has electricity, and offering full services. We checked in last night then grabbed a very good dinner at Bebos Cafe.

Great news about the DoubleTree. We'll be there this Saturday. I've contacted them twice to confirm our reservation, which they've done. They've also helped me make arrangements for 4 members of our travel party to check in early as they arrive in San Juan before we do. The service from the DoubleTree has been spectacular so far.We just stayed at DoubleTree on November 12 and 13. They were fully operational. Electricity (not by generator), pool, hot tub, restaurant on site, grocery store across the street. Traffic lights were not working but shuttle drivers seem to know what they are doing dealing with this.Sent from my Moto Z (2) using Forums mobile app

Just sailed on her last week and will be doing a review this weekend. But some quick comments - it ship officers reported the Sky to be the #1 rated ship for this Jan and Feb. Crew were much improved over our Dec '15 cruise. Very friendly. Open bar worked fine. Ship was clean and is benefiting from it's recent wet dock when numerous upgrades were made to it. You'll have a great time.

Just booked our Nov 2017 sailing on the Getaway!

They wanted to know if they could sign for someone else's kid.
You are correct! My bad. And that is the question that was answered.

That might be the most ignorant post I have ever read on this board.
I have several family members and know family of friends who have served
and none of them fit that criteria.
I was eating my popcorn then spit it out of my mouth when I saw those comments. April, I believe in free speech and the right of anyone to share their opinion on these boards. But as the father of a son who is a 2LT in the Army and is currently going through Armor School training to be a Cavalry Scout, I can tell you only the best and brightest lead our armed forces that are comprised of brave men and women who stand guard and shed their blood on foreign lands for your right to say stupid things. The backbone of our armed forces are kids - 18, 19, 20 yrs old who, for whatever reasons chose to serve. To say they volunteered to serve and die for their country because they weren't smart enough to get into college is a slap in the face of everyone who served.
This thread was started by someone who simply asked about signing a waiver for their 18 yr old child to drink on a cruise. I think that question's been answered.
-
Nope.
-
I think a PP confused a mimosa (with sparkling wine, so allowed with a parent waiver) with a screw driver (with vodka, so not allowed with a parent waiver.
Mimosa - yes
Screw driver - no
Oh, I get it. That would be correct. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

We had some type of chocolate that was served in a bowl. Wow, was it ever yummy. Hopefully my DW will hop on this thread and tell us what it was.

Our PCC told us tomorrow is the day. We've heard that before so we shall see.

I can't believe I'm jumping into this discussion but Champaign is alcohol and minors (anyone under age 21) can not order one in the U.S. Plus, in order to drink a mimosa on an NCL ship they need to have their parents authorization. And I know this to be true as on our Sky cruise last week we tried to drink Champagne in Cagney's on embarkation day to celebrate being on a cruise but our 19 yr old son, who we had authorized to be able to drink couldn't have Champaign or any alcohol until after we left the port. I'm now going back to eating my popcorn.

Hello all,
Taking my first NCL cruise over Christmas on the Sky. Is there a night they have some sort of chocolate buffet?:p
Any info greatly appreciated
Thanks
Patty
We were on the Sky last week. Had a chocolate night on Wed (Nassau Day) but no buffet. Each restaurant basically had some additional chocolate desserts. No idea if they'll even do this in Dec.

We will be traveling with our 18 year old who is bringing a friend. I know parents can sign a waiver allowing 18 year olds to drink beer and wine, but will we as his friend's chaperones be able to sign the waiver for his friend as well? His friend's parents won't be traveling with us.
No. You can sign for your son but a parent or legal guardian must sign for his friend. You and your son have to present your ID's at Guest Services verifying you parent/child and both have to sign the authorization. The same must occur for your son's friend.

Here's another tidbit of info the ship's senior officers told us - the Sky was the #1 customer rated ship in Jan and Feb. I believe this as we noticed a HUGE difference in the crew's engagement with passengers and customer service as compared to our Dec, 2015. Cruise. The improvement was amazing. I attribute that to Capt Pelle who was probably the coolest Capt I've ever met and to the leadership of the Hotel Dir and Food and Bev Mgr who were both incredible.

Glad you had an overall good time! The ship just came off a full spring break charter so it'd be interesting to read how a normal versus spring break charter stacked up! Welcome back! :)
The crew were frankly a little shell shocked after the weekend charter. We had several tell us it was crazy and that our cruise was so much better.
Embarkation was delayed on Monday by roughly an hour as several of the charter passengers partied until breakfast on Monday then went to bed. The crew had to literally go wake people up and get them off the ship.

How did the open bar work out? Do you have any of the Dailies? We cruise in June.
Open bar worked fine. The pool bar usually had a fairly long line but it wasn't too extreme. The Great Outdoors Bar had lines but they went fast. Had issues getting Gentleman Jack at times as the car's ran out a few times but they were quickly restocked. DW wanted a dirty banana once and was told it wasn't on the menu as it takes time to make and they don't make them to try and maintain the efficiency of the bars. The Food and Beverage Director explained this to my DW and then went and had one made for her.
The crew on the Sky were absolutely wonderful. The officers were very noticeable and approachable. We had great service from the crew all week. Overall it seemed to me that the open bar worked fine.

Just off the Sky and had a wonderful cruise. The ship was sold out with a large percentage of passengers being college age. We knew this going in to the cruise and were expecting some challenges. Other than a few minor inconveniences we had no issues. I'll be posting a review on Sunday but until then, let me know if you have any questions.

We have stayed in GV's on both the Pearl and the Jewel and loved them both. Staying in a GV/The Haven is a cruise within a cruise.
