1. I haven't cruised in 3 years. Just booked a 3 day to Ensenada. Am wondering if dinners are still a dress up event and if there's a formal on a 3 day cruise. Has this changed since the apocalypse? Where would I find this info on the Royal website? I tried doing a search but the site is quirky and I got nothing.

This particular ship has a Starbucks and I have the Starbucks app and rewards program. Will they honor it on the Starbucks cruise? Will I earn Stars with my purchases?

    Thank you 🙂

  2. Can anybody help me out with the deckplans of the Diamond & Sapphire Princess.

The deckplans on the Princess website have both ships without that storage shed showing in the 400 block on Emerald deck but if you look at the pictures of the outside of both ships you can clearly see those storage sheds. (You can see those pictures at my website).

Now, my question is; Did they remove those sheds lately or are they omitted on the Princess website.

It will obviously affect the info I'm giving out.

Any info sombody can give me is much appreciated.

a week ago I booked a coastal cruise on Sapphire and got an ocean view obstructed on the Emerald deck cabin 407 and found out it's in front of a white box with no view at all. I quickly changed my cabin to another location and was told by Costco travel that those obstructions are there but not on the website. they didn't know why.

  3. I am Chinese-American by way of Hong Kong. We ate at Hon's on Robson in May and the quality is up to our standards. http://www.hons.ca/hons_english.htm It was authentic and cheap with a huge variety of items on the menu. What type of noodle soup did you eat? Describe it and I can tell you if Hons will have it. I agree that Chinatown is very sketchy and Richmond is where the local Chinese go to eat.

thanks chinita415! the place looks amazing and we will totally eat there. the soup we had had udon noodle with chicken, beef and shrimp. a type of dumpling that was not like the wonton kind but harder and rounder and also a few pieces of california roll and tempura. the bowl was big enough for 2 people and we ate every single bit of it.

I also love crispy noodle but no one had anything that looked appealing to me but that is most likely because our bellies were so full from the soup. we ate this soup June of 2010 and we still talk about it! :D

  4. thank you Scottbee and Putterdude! I have some research to do with my maps tonight.

there was one place near the beach where some very large and funny bronze statues were located but it was closed when we got there. we popped into another little place which could only hold about 10 people and the sushi there was good but not amazing.

in Chinatown we ate the best soup with noodle we have ever eaten in our lives but the trek there was among a few streets that looked very questionable to me... any good Chinese places in downtown we might be able to find that soup again?

where do you guys live? downtown area? what do you do for fun there? we are open to anything. :D
  5.
Vancouver to Victoria is little over 4hr journey;

    Best possible scenario is:
45 min to ferry terminal in Tsawwassen
    20 min wait for ferry
    90 min ferry crossing
    20 min to unload
35 min drive to downtown Victoria.

It can be done from downtown Vancouver as a day trip, there are a number of companies doing all in, or you can take a coach which drives onto the ferry, or you can just catch local buses. It all takes about the same amount of time.

    the cheapest is on the local buses and just walk on the ferry;

Downtown Vancouver via Canada Line Skytrain to Bridgeport; #620 bus from Bridgeport to Tsawwassen ($5)

Walk on Ferry to Swartz Bay/Victoria ($14.25)

#70 bus to downtown Victoria (or there's a #81 to Saanichtown/Brentwood Bay where Butchart Gardens is) ($2.50)
#70 bus on the Victoria side takes a somewhat convoluted path to get downtown, but the plus side is that it's a nice brand new double decker, with excellent views.
thanks Scottbee! the timing is a lot so I think we will just leave the gardens for when we are there with the cruise ship and enjoy Vancouver for 2 days. I fell in love with Vancouver the first time we were there in June 2010 and have been itching to come back...
does anyone know of a good sushi place in downtown or near the beach?
  6.
With the time your ship is in Victoria you will have lots of time to visit Butchart Gardens, so no, I would not bother going to Victoria pre cruise.

Instead I would focus on Vancouver attractions that I have mentioned. However in addition you may care to go to Whistler for a day. You can do this with a tour company or you can rent a car for a day and drive.
I've done my research per your suggestion and agree that staying in Vancouver there's plenty to see and do. now Whistler sounds great.... THANK YOU SO MUCH! this is great and I cannot wait to be there. :D
  7.
The Butchart Gardens are on the outskirts of Victoria on Vancouver Island so there is no way you could walk there from Vancouver. However with the time you have in Victoria you have time to have a good visit to the gardens. Your ship will offer excursions to the gardens or you can can use CVS Cruise Victoria's shuttle. There is also the option to take transit out to them, if that is appealing to you we will be happy to provide directions.

You are not clear about the amount of time you are in Vancouver, but if you are hear for the day something like the Capilano Suspension Bridge and the Grouse Mountain SkyRide is always popular or something like visit to Granville Island takes much less time.

nice! I will check it out. we will be in Vancouver for 2.5 days before the cruise starts. once on the cruise we will arrive in Victoria from 8am to 4pm and am wondering if that will be enough time for the gardens.

or while we stay in Vancouver if it's better to go to Victoria ourselves and go to the gardens but then will that give us more time there since we will have to go back to our Vancouver hotel before the ferries stop running. and where are the ferries compared to where we are staying? (Robson hotel)

this is extremely helpful. thank you so much for the website. :D
  8. hi Vickie, thank you for all your answers and info. it's very helpful :)

we are staying at the Robson Suites in the heart of downtown. I love the location. last time we stayed there we walked everywhere but this time we want to visit Victoria and have a full day at the gardens. we do visit Victoria with our ship but are there from 8am to 4pm and I was wondering if that's enough time or if there's a way to get there from our hotel walking distance or...???? is this something that's worth doing or just wait for the day we have there while on ship?

    last question, promise :)
last time we stayed in Vancouver we visited MOA, Chinatown, the beaches with lots of statues, Gastown and Stanley Park. did we miss anything? something close enough for us to figure out how to get there. I have my old maps :D
    thanks!
  9.
There are a couple of options but likely the most direct without a transfer would be to walk down to Georgia St. and catch a #19 Dowtown bus and get off at Pender & Burrard from which you will have a short 3 block walk downhill...just tell the diver what you are up to and you will need CDN funds. Yes you can take a suitcase on a bus just be aware of other passengers. A cab fare from your hotel to Canada Place will run you about $12. Sorry just aboutforgot about weather....very hard to predict but we have had a wet cool spring and early summer which should auger well for a nice September.
thanks so much! for $12 we will take a cab. I can't wait! looking forward to Stanley park and the beach areas :):D
  10. Thanks for all your replys. Anyone interested in the Equinox, please see the post a bit earlier about Equinox photos and menus. It is amazing.

I'm late on this thread but am booked on the equinox for the Caribbean in 2012. I'm on continental deck room 6192. how is the obstruction? horrible or tolerable? any photos? thanks so much :D
