Hi there,
I am going to post this on both MSC and Costa boards because I don't know where a "middle ground" board would be.
We are considering a Western Mediterranean cruise in March and I see only Costa and MSC have itineraries there at that time of year. I don't see great reviews for either and I don't know much about either. The only thing I know about Costa is that is the one whose ship ran aground a few years back so I am naturally hesitant about that line.
Any thoughts on what is great or not-so-great about either MSC or Costa? We are taking my 13-yr old daughter with us.
Thank you!
Michelle
An alternative in March in West Med is Norwegian Epic 12 ds/859E.

I agree with you Toonbear. It's ALWAYS that way with Costa and MSC. For YEARS !! The buffet is awful . If we arrived after a tour there's nothing edible. I wish other cruiselines go to the Seychelles.

Thanks GMT!
Sinta, we are concidering either dec 26th or Jan 9th.
I have been looking around trying to get a good price, looks like we might save up to 50% booking this cruise with cruisedirect in the UK, compared to the prices I have got in Norway. Is it ok with Costa that I buy the cruise ticket in another country? I guess they dont care, or probably even notice!?
Do you mind me asking how much you paid Sinta?
We booked directly @ Costa. The cheapest cabin costs 799E. What about you? Normally we booked in Germany for always an interesting price. But this time they sell this cruise as a package, leaving from Frankfurt, which is not interesting for us. If you give me your email address, I can give you their account for next time.
How much did you pay? We normally cruise with HAL, RCI or Celebrity. They have a better service.

I found this very discouraging review of NeoRomantica/Africa/2010.

Hopefully they improve their services ?? :D

Thanks for the link, but this page is only nice if you need information about
the area around the port. We like to explore the Islands, so we need informations about excursions...
Beside the link I mentioned, I watch different Youtube video's to get inspired.
It's very rare that we book shore excursions, because of the high prices and... the weather. On the ship I try to meet as many pax as possible during the meals. We always find a couple to share a taxi. I'm sure you'll find enough info in your hotels too. It's a pity that we aren't on the same cruise, because I do speak German and French too.
On that link you'll find also excursions offered by locals. Also click at 'video' to get idea's. Consult also Google, Wikitravel and travel guides in the library. Hope you succeed. Please let me know if you find something interesting, including the price.

Yes, there is minibar fridge in the room - full of bottles and cans:-)
They are opening it after registering credit card/payment of deposit in cash and closing in the evening the day before arrival to last port.
Thx for the info Greg.

Hi
Could anyone tell me a little about the ports the NeoRomantica is visiting in Madagascar: Nosy be, Tamatave, Diego Suarez?
I have always wanted to visit Madagascar to see the beautiful nature and the unique wildlife, especially the lemurs. Is there any chance of visiting any national parks as a short daytrip? Any must see/do?
I guess Nosy Be is mainly a beach stop?
anyone done this cruise?
You can find ports info in http://www.whatsinport.com.
When exactly will you cruise? We'll sail on febr 6, 2016

Hi, I am sure someone has asked this before but I have not been successful in my searches for an answer to the following question - Do you know what ports in Italy, Spain and France have attractions, sights, shopping or anything to do within walking distance of the port. Interested in knowing what we can do without booking shore excursions in each port. We play to book some excursions but would also like to know options. Appreciate any advise anyone may have.
Here is a very useful site: www.whatsinport.com. Click the country, then the city. You can click on the 'video' or 'images',to get an idea where to go.
In every port there are hoho buses, that wait close to the ship [except in Barcelona: at the Columbus monument]. Normally I take the whole loop, get off at the port to have lunch, then continue to visit with that bus the interesting places. The ticket costs about 18-20E.
In some cities, like Monaco or Barcelona, there are daypasses available. It is cheaper than the hoho, but there's no explanation.
In Civitavecchia: when you get off from the shuttle bus, walk to the main road, go to the right, at the 1st shop you can buy a roundtrip trainticket to Rome for 12E, this includes the public transportation in Rome.
We cruise 3x/year in the Med. I hope this info can help you.
Beware of pickpockets. They are everywhere.
Enjoy your cruise.

Thanks for your reply. This will be our 3rd Aida cruise, so I know how it will be. It is not our first choice. I'll miss the nice shows, the trivia's and the 'Crow's Nest'. But still hoping to meet nice people like on other cruise lines.
