  1. If you buy alcohol in port (or on the ship) I will be delivered to your room the last evening (as birdcat says) but if you don't have it at a decent time ... start asking early. We did not have ours, and waited untill 10:00 to ask about it... took another 15 min to find it and then 45 min to get it up to our room.

Good to know. Any idea what the earlist is they typically will return it? I'm just thinking it might be worth buying a bottle of something in port to enjoy our last night on the ship.

  2. You can buy a soda package for about $40 or so for the week, or buy sodas by the glass. My husband gets the package, it's just something he really likes to do. He was given a sticker on his seapass card that let the waiter know he had the package. Once in a while, I would order a soda. They would take my seapass and charge $2.50 or so per soda. They would give me a glass with ice and an actual can of soda.

I had heard of the soda packages but wasn't sure it would be worth it if I only wanted say one with dinner or less per day. I also have the thought that I might get some in San Juan and pack them into my luggage before we board the ship. I also thought about doing that with some bottled water for Brad and I. We are planning to fly into San Juan the day before the cruise leaves so we would have plenty of time to add some liquids to our luggage. :)

  3. Yes, we ordered room service every morning as we're pretty lazy in the mornings, lol. There will be cards on the back of your door that you can fill out and hang on your (outer) door knob the night before. There are things like eggs, bacon, sausage, pastries, fruit platters, juice, tea, and coffee. The room service is included, unless you're ordering between 12 AM-6 AM (I think those are the hours). We normally had $2 or so to tip the delivery person. If you would rather call in your order in the morning, you can. That usually took about 30 mins. Either way, they call you when they are on their way to your room, which I thought was a nice touch.

That sounds very nice. I assume Brad and I might want to do this one morning or two. We kind of like to stay in bed from time to time but I also know that when we port I will want to be up and doing stuff too!

Since you have been so great with information, do you know how buying soda works in the MDR? For example, if I want a soda with dinner will they charge me per glass I drink or do I get free refills during my meal? If so, how much is each glass?

  4. Thanks for all the great tips. We will be traveling on the Serenade during July 24 sailing for our honeymoon. As a first time cruiser with RC I love any and all tips.

    I did have a few questions . .

I saw a few people noted you could bring on a package of water or soda by just placing a tag on it. Does this really work? Would it be better to bring an extra bag to store the drinks in?

If we buy alcohol while in port will we be allowed to have it on the ship or will they take it from us and return it on the last day?

For dinner in the MDR, what night will they typically serve lobster? Or do they? We are booked on a 7 night cruise if that helps. Can I request more than one plate?

Also, for dinner in the MDR, I want to make sure we dress appropriately. What should we expect other guest to be wearing.

    Thanks!!

  5. I'm excited for you!

My Mom was in cabin 8596. GREAT location. She was able to walk to most places in the rare event (mostly at night) that the elevators were too busy for her liking. You will have some great views forward and aft. What a romantic honeymoon. Be sure to turn out all the lights in your stateroom and on the balcony at night, and sit out an watch the stars. It's the most incredible view!! Try it at least once during your cruise. Congrats again and happy sailing!

Great idea! I've only been on a cruise once and we only had a small window at that time.

I was telling Brad it might be nice to order room service one morning and have breakfest in our room or on the balcony. Do you know . . can we order a breakfest into our room? Is there a charge? How long would it take to arrive? I assume 30 minutes or more at least.

  6. My fiancé and I just booked our honeymoon on the Serenade. We will be leaving out of San Juan on the July 24th sailing. I really enjoyed this review! Lots of great information for us.

Having never sailed myself on RC I'm concerned and interested in the dress code for the main dinning room. I just want to make sure we pack appropriately. How should we expect others to be dresses?
