have been reading this thread with interest over the past couple of days.

 

I find some of the comments that the whole thing basically was oceania's fault and therefore responsibility and that they should offer medical treatment free quite incredible.

 

Someone took the virus on board where it was spread by unhygienic practices. Many of which have been highlighted here and i'm sure many of us have seen such disgusting habits many times over. Some have said that their partner was ill, yet they carried on going about the ship regardless. Was that in itself not a bit inconsiderate? Just because you don't have the symptoms, or are not ill, it doesn't mean you are not carrying the virus and then continue to contaminate and spread further the germs if you carry on as normal going about the ship!

I know that may sound a bit harsh but if 24 hrs in the suite stops the damn thing spreading then so be it!

 

To not have travel insurance which covers medical expenses is just plain daft. Maybe the cruiselines should make it mandatory for all passengers to have insurance? A year long travel insurance policy costs less than a couple of days drinks package! This would eliminate the go or not go to the doctor situation!!!

 

I am truly sorry people were ill, but i think we all have to take more responsibility for ourselves and our own health.

On the maiden voyage in the Executive Lounge the concierge was of absolutely no help in any area. His eyes were on his computer and he did not even acknowledge the entrance of a guest.

Hopefully he has been replaced.

Apparently the Concierge Lounge had a far more effective person at the helm.

On the maiden voyage there was a spirited game of dominoes going on, and on..........................

Again on the maiden voyage, things may have changed, around 10 in the evening one was able to get online fairly quickly.

Their Caribbean cruise port chgs and taxes are even more - Port chgs are $329 and taxes are like $165 so we paid almost $1000.

Again. The port charges were included. You did pay the taxes seperately. Check your invoice.

I don't know where you got your quote but go to Oceania's web site, then to Cruises and Destinations then Search All, then pick a destination, select a cruise from the list, then from the top select Fares. At the bottom of "Fares" you will see a seperate listing for port charges and the statement that they are included.

I also checked the invoices for both my first, and my forthcoming Oceania cruise. Both list taxes but not port charges.
