  1. I'm just going to assume everything the OP has been saying is correct since that side is the only one talking.

I get that people keep asking for the price as if it makes a difference.  And in many cases it absolutely should make a difference. I do believe that price mistakes happen and that generally speaking the seller does not have to honor those price mistakes.  However, in this instance if what the OP is saying is true then I don't see how anyone can defend this company.  How far should a consumer be expected to go to protect themselves?  Per the OP, multiple calls were made to the company asking for confirmation.  Apparently even a supervisor/senior manager even commented along the lines of "wow, you got a fantastic price" and then went on to say everything looks good.  How many more times should the OP call?  Should the OP go to social media to confirm? Fly out to the corporate office?  Etc.

Yes, a pricing mistake was likely made.  But if the OP's side of events is true then this company needs to just eat the cost here.

  2. Sounds good, appreciate the advice. We're date locked so would likely need to go a week after the solstice. Either way, it seems like our best bet is to go ahead and just risk the deposit to get what we want. If I understand the terms correctly we can get most of it back to use on a future cruise so may be a good hedge.

By the way, am I in good shape to just book via the Carnival website or are there other options out there that could provide a better deal? Not sure if those exist booking this far in advance or not but thought it might be worth checking on. Thanks.

  3. Hi all, we're looking to do an Alaskan cruise next summer (June/July 2019) on the Legend out of Seattle. I do know we want to do an aft extended balcony but am just not sure when the best time is to book. It feels pretty far out but also looks like availability is already limited. We've only cruised one time previously (Caribbean) so definitely have no idea if the lack of obvious availability is intentionally designed to get me to book now or if it's more than likely legit due to demand.

Appreciate any advice you may have. Thanks!

  4. We're sailing out of New Orleans on Sunday and I just found out there is a sports bar on the Dream. Does this mean I may actually get to watch NFL on Sunday? Or is this going to be the most disappointing 'sports bar' experience of all time? :D

*edit* Nevermind, it seems I was mistaken. Not sure where I read last night that there was a sports bar on the Dream but seems Carnival does not list this ship as having one. Any idea if the casino or other bars will carry NFL games?

  5. Looks like it will support Skype video. Can I assume it will also assume Facetime Audio since that should actually require less bandwidth? Just trying to think of ways I'll be able to keep in touch with work at less cost than paying a ridiculous cell phone minute rate.

  6. Also on the Dream so am somewhat concerned by this. Will we know before we board what they plan to do? This is my first cruise mainly because I've always been leery of being stuck on a boat the entire time. If I know ahead of time that it is already planned to be a 'cruise to nowhere' I may very well just opt for a couple of additional nights in New Orleans and head back home.

  7. We'll be on the Dream next week, it's my first cruise, and I'm concerned about the internet functionality. How is the speed on the Dream? Is it good enough or frustratingly slow? I'll be purchasing whatever the fastest option is. How is the reliability? Etc. Yeah I know, some people like to be completely disconnected but I'm definitely not one of those people.

Also, what communication options are available? Will cell phones work on board? Texts? Have a feeling I'll constantly be off exploring on my own so would like to know what options are available if folks who I'm traveling with need to get in touch with me (or vice versa).

  8. Going on our first cruise next week and the main thing I'm trying to figure out is whether I can bring a power strip or not. I see several people mention that power strips are on their 'must' list but I also see people say that these are not safe, though this does seem to be limited to those with surge protection. Can someone actually share a link to one that would be considered ok for the cruise ship? Thanks.

  9. I will more than likely get this when we head out in October:

Premium ($25 USD per day) – From e-mail to Skype, our Premium plan promises the fastest possible connection, at speeds up to 3 times faster than our Value Plan. Supports Skype video calling, where coverage allows.

Does it actually perform well enough to make Skype / Facetime Voice calls as it claims? If so, this should at least allow me to keep in touch with work while we're gone. I know, I know.. I wish I could fully detach myself from work but not going to happen. Thanks a lot technology!

  10. Appreciate the responses. The child is I think 6 or 7 years old so definitely on the young side and will require some level of supervision.

It seems like maybe splitting off and doing our own thing for at least part of this day will be the best compromise. We might just go to the Money Bar for a couple of hours and then rejoin them at Paradise later. I do need to spend a bit more time researching how good the snorkeling is at Chankanaab as that could be a good happy medium if it works out. Thanks again.

  11. First time cruiser here and I'm trying my best to figure out what to do in Cozumel. We're going with another couple who does have a young child. (So 4 adults and 1 child in total)

What's your favorite Cozumel spot that basically checks all of these boxes?

    - Relaxing beach / Pool area

    - Food & Drinks available

    - Great Snorkeling

    - OK for kids

I've been looking at Money Bar and if just us it would be fine since I just want to be able to enjoy some beers and good snorkeling. It's hard to say for sure but just looking at TA photos it doesn't look as good for kids as something like Paradise Beach. But Paradise Beach doesn't look like it's that great for snorkeling.

Is the happy medium that we just spend some time at both? Or is there a place that is best of both worlds?

(We will be arriving at a Carnival port.)

  12. Going on my first cruise in October (Dream @ NOLA) and it's the little things that have me worried. One of those little things is beer selection. While I'd definitely like to have a much broader range available it is certainly good to know that I'll be able to get my hands on some Abita Amber. Wish there was a better IPA available but the Amber will have to do.

  13. Is this really that big of a problem? I'm going on my first cruise in a few months and to be honest the at sea days represent my largest concern with cruising, mainly because of this type of stuff.

*edit* It might help to note that I'll be on the Carnival Dream. I also get up very early just out of habit and to be honest probably prefer to be more in the shade than in the sun.

  14. We just booked our first cruise yesterday for Oct 2016 and also added FTTF. It just doesn't seem that expensive to me relative to the overall cost but the benefits appear on the surface to be obvious.

Granted I'm a newbie so may find that it's a waste because I don't know any better.

  15. This worked out well for us too. I was planning to book last night but just put a hold instead. Today the price was the same but the deposit was cut in half. Yeah I'd rather hold my money for an extra 8 months.

Booking was for the Oct 2nd Western Caribbean Dream sailing out of New Orleans. First post. First cruise. Lurking since 2010. :)
