Did they make the Solarium smaller than it used to be? Or maybe the crowding is just that there are so many more staterooms nearby it’s easier to grab chairs and there is gym equipment in there...

I think it is smaller.  They did away with where you could get little bites to eat but then they put these big double chairs in and like double loungers that take up a lot of room.  Over all, much less seating.  Add more people and forget getting a lounger unless you are there at the crack of dawn.  I am assuming the treadmills in the Solarium are temporary until the fitness center opens.   It looks nice, as do the changes in the pool deck, but it diminished capacity considerably.  I’m glad I’m not a pool fan.

If that is the case, they clearly are not making it appealing to smokers....and since I don't smoke, it isn't a problem for me.

If there is no smoking area on the pool deck....that is fine to me....since invariably I end up walking through the smoking side more than I want to getting from place to place....so that would suit me just fine.   I know smokers will hate it.  Oh well.

Yes, smokers are unhappy but they are used to being treated second class.  They don’t whine like so many others.  They just make do.  They’ll enjoy their cruise anyway.

I would love to hear feedback on anyone who can scope out the fitness center for me 🙂

I've recently been doing kickboxing workouts and am going to try to spend some time in the gym on my upcoming cruise (Mar. 15) for the first time in 12 cruises! I'm hoping to find out whether the Navigator gym offers any heavy bags, speed bags, etc. that I can use. If not, I guess I'll be leaving the gloves at home.

Have a great cruise! I am anxious to get on board in a couple weeks.

It’s not completed so who knows.

Can someone on board confirm the smoking areas? We have a balcony on deck 6 on the starboard side of the ship and are a little worried about smoke from deck 4 or 5.

Deck 4, Promenade, Port Side, I think.  None by the pool!  They moved it to Deck 12. Up stairs outside  of the Windjammer and up the steps.  Small, crowded with some lounge chairs and no tables right in the morning sun with no shade.

  5. On our last cruise I forgot a medication I needed. I went to the medical center where they gave me not only enough for the rest of the trip but a couple extra in case we had weather delays getting home. It cost less than a visit to my physician and less than I pay at home for the medication. My insurance covered the doctor's visit and my prescription insurance covered the medication. The staff at the medical center was fast and kind.

  6. I am sorry if I am being negative but I have been holding on to my emotions & cannot hold on anymore. I understand that everybody has their own opinions but please respect mine.

Coming from a Cuban-American family that had to literally leave Cuba with nothing when the dictator Fidel took office & took (that is correct, just took) all of my families possessions(houses, clothes, jewelry, everything!). I get so mad when individuals want to go to Cuba & give our hard owned money to this government dictatorship. Luckily they were able to come to the USA back then and were able to get their lives back on track & give myself & my brothers a very good life in the U.S.A.).

Also, I just read on MSN.com the other day that the locals in Cuba are having a food shortage now with certain items/staples because all the food is going to the hotels & the tourist areas first. The locals are struggling to find food. Just why we cannot give anything to this dictatorship.

Thank you for letting me rant & please understand that these are my opinions as a son of a Cuban-American family

Thank you for sharing. I have no family or friends who have been directly affected but I have trouble giving any money to a communist country with the history of human rights violations Cuba has. While I might be curious to see a country I have not seen, my moral conscious just won't let me do it. You have many who understand and you support you.

  7. I've only been on RCI and Princess so I can't compare any others. RCI cruises are much more organized! They go off with much fewer glitches than Princess. I found the ships and the entertainment to be about the same. I prefer the food, both quality and variety, to Princess. I also have found RCI's staff to be a lot better. The service with the cabin was equal but away from the cabin, RCI has service beat by a mile! I see RCI as a superior line overall. Try it. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

  8. Another reason to kick the violators off the ship when they are first busted when smoking in any no smoking area of the ship. The hell with the fine. Everyone has already been warned in the contract under Consequences Section of the Guest Conduct Policy so just do away with the fine. Maybe that would get the attention of some.

They need to do the same with chair hogs!

  9. Bottom line is the cruise line will do what makes them the most money. You can all talk and judge and complain all you want. The cruise line will do what makes them the most money. They are a business. They are not your family or your friends. They are a business. Money makes the decisions. And don't bother guessing what would make them more money. RCI knows what they are doing. They do studies. They don't walk through once in a while and look around at who is in the casino and who is gambling.

  10. That's what I get for posting from my phone while on a cruise. I misspoke. (mistyped? ;) )

No INDOOR smoking on Australia-based cruises. So the casino is smoke-free, as well as cabins and balconies, on a Royal Caribbean cruise.

If I STILL don't have it quite correct, I am sure that one of my Aussie friends will leap in. :)

That makes more sense. They aren't smoke free. They allow smoking in smoking areas outside just no smoking inside. That I'll buy.

  11. non issue for us. even if we wanted to go, his job means he is not permitted to enter the country.

if you are worried about lousy governments and human rights, then I suggest you stay out of Jamaica and Haiti as well. neglect and corruption is just as bad as torture and ..."

I don't take cruises that include Haiti and Jamaica. I don't get off of the ship in Aruba.

  12. That has to be the dumbest statement since someone asked why a person who was blind would want to cruise.

We have gone on 16 cruises with no problems. The last cruise before this problem one was in Aug/Sept. We were gone for over 3 weeks with no issues.

This is the first cruise where we have had problems with smokers and problems with my partners breathing. We have another cruise booked in March with RCI. If there are problems again we will most likely switch to a non-smoking line.

And what cruise line is totally non-smoking? The last one I heard of was one named Renaissance or something like that. They went bankrupt.
