  1. I just changed from Warfarin to Xarelto after 3 procedures this year that required I bridge with lovinox shots for a week or two.  Xarelto makes it easier since you go off it, then right back on and I'm facing more surgery/procedures.  I made the change after talking to my doctor and it is a very personal decision.

I wanted to say that the manufactures for this and I think Eliquis offer savings coupons.  I pay $10.00 for a three month supply.  Here in the US.  Without that, I think I was looking at a few hundred a month.  FWIW to anyone.

  2. We've done one cruise with family, our mom, hubby and me, brother and his wife and daughter.  One cruise with 4 other couples.  Both those were a week.  We also did a 2 week Hawaiian cruise with another couple.

Best advice I'd second is talk it out beforehand like you did.  We did the "we'll meet for dinner" as a minimum.  We had planned excursions we all wanted to take, not everyone went on all of them.  It was surprising how often we run into each other throughout the day.

  3. We did this cruise in 2018, are planning it again in 2023.  I love sea days, were I can really just relax and unwind.  I didn't get bored in the least.  Hubby was OK, we were travelling with another couple and that helped.  I think he could have gotten bored otherwise.  There are lots of activities and I enjoyed them, he wasn't big on most of them.  Just not his interests.  If you like sea days, I think you'll be fine.

I will second the reminder to have some warm clothes.  We left out of Vancouver, and it was rainy and could those first few days out and then the last few back.  I packed for Hawaii, had to buy a few warmer things onboard, and it wasn't a great selection.

When old things like pineapple factories ,luau and lei greetings(do they still have that) are still around it means there are not new and better things to replace them.

Or maybe people think they are good enough to keep around.  Old isn't always bad, new isn't always better.

We love Hawaii.  We've done land vacations 5 times now, including our honeymoon, and one cruise RT from Vancouver.  Planning another one in 2023 for our 30th anniversary.  There is something about the scenery and just the feeling being there, it's hard to put into words.

When we do another land trip someday, we'll probably skip Oahu since we've been there enough and seen the main sights.  It's crowded and I think it's the most touristy island.  My favorite thing there was doing ATV rides.

I'm not a big beach person, I do like to snorkel.  And just enjoy a more laid-back time.

  5. I haven't done a package yet, I might on my next cruise.  That way, I can have a drink when I want without thinking about what it costs and what our final bill will be.  I probably won't come out ahead on the deal, but that's OK.

What I'm not sure about is the number of people that feel completely healthy AND have a fever? Don't most people with a fever also feel unwell? If you are feeling unwell you should stay home, not come and and potentially contaminate everything and everyone until you get your temperature checked and it shows you have a fever.

My husband and I both have co-workers who have come to work sick.  They insist they feel fine, and that it's just allergies.  One found out later they had strep throat and had been at work.  Even when we had other co-workers who were undergoing medical treatments that lowered their immunity, one came in sick.

The odd thing is that these are generally nice people in other ways.

  7. We did the cruise that leaves out of Vancouver BC in April a few years ago.  It is a lot of sea days, which I love, it was a nice way to unwind before hitting the islands, and before getting back home as well.  I agree with the comments that it's more about the cruise and less about Hawaii.  We've been there on land vacations before, so that was fine with us.  I would do it again.

  8. Hi - we have been on Holland America and Princess and have a total of 4 cruises.  We are thinking about taking our niece to Alaska next spring for her High School Graduation.  She'll be 18.

We'd prefer to leave from Seattle, but Vancouver BC would work.  She's been on one cruise, to the Caribbean about 9 years ago.  I'm needing some advice for this one.  It would be my husband, myself and her.  We're thinking two cabins, a balcony for us we can all hang out in, and an inside room for her.  We aren't sure if we want to invite a friend for her, is it true that it wouldn't cost much more to have a second person in her cabin than it would with her having a cabin to herself?

I'm wondering what a fun cruise line would be, with some activities for her.  She's fairly active, rock climbing kind of stuff.

Thanks for any advice and suggestions for things we should think about.

Generally, cpaps are not very big and do come with a case. Hubby likes to take his in the case, which I then put into a larger bag (because we put other things in with it).  I simply put my in the underseat roller (see previous post) with other things.  The important thing to remember is to protect it just as you would a laptop or other electronic devices.

I think you'll be fine.  Don't over think this 🙂

I agree.  Mine has a bag that all the parts fit into, and it fits just fine under a seat.  The bag is smaller then our laptop bag, and it's much lighter.

I would keep it under the seat, and in that bag.  I had mine in a backpack, in the overhead bin, and part of the plastic on the mask got broken.

  10. Hi - we are thinking about taking a short cruise just as a get-away. We've done 2 cruises on Holland and 2 on Princess now, and are open to other lines.

Ideal would be leaving and returning to Seattle, 3-4 nights. RCL has a couple in Sept 2018 that would be great, but too soon for us to go, it would be at least next spring. At least leaving from or returning to Seattle would be good. I don't care too much about the other ports, just looking for a break and we like cruising.

So, looking for any other lines that might have options.

    Thanks

  11. Ship Time: what does that mean? For instance when we get on our ship at 2:00pm in Seattle, will that be what clocks on the ship say too? when we arrive a few days later in San Francisco, will my watch and ship time still be same or do we change to SF time? or do they keep time a whole different way? Thanks. from a newbie.

My experience is that "ship time" is not always the same as the time zone the ship is actually in. We turned on the TV to check the time, their info station had it. The Patters (we were on Princess) also had when to move clocks back or ahead. If you are in port, be sure you know if the Ship time is in sync with local time, I would think it is?

SF and Seattle are in the same time zone, so you are fine there.

  12. We ate there in April as well, and weren't impressed. I liked the lamb skewers and the Buckwheat Papperdelle, but the pork belly was oddly dry and not much flavor. Our friends had chicken and they said the same, dry and not much flavor.

Crown Grill on the other hand was wonderful.

  13. Hi.

    1. Does the Princess@sea app/page work if you do not sign up for onboard internet?? Is it useful?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cathy

Others had good info on how it works, I just wanted to add that we found it useful on our cruise in April. Somewhat for messaging each other but you do have to check for messages, it doesn't notify you. I particularly liked it for checking events on board and setting up my schedule.

  14. We booked a curuse because my wife is suffering from lung cancer. I hoped she could go. I called Princess direct and ask what type of insureane I needed to purchase. They told me the standerd would be fine as long as I canceled at least one day before the trip started. I called two weeks before and ask if it was still in effect. They said it was. She became woese and ended up in the pain clinic hospitol. I called as instructed and canceled the day before and got an email of the cancelation. Two weeks later I contacted the aron insurce compnay and filed for the insurance claim. We submitted all required forms even copies of the dotctor report. This was not enough. 4 months later we had to have re subit a hard writen doctor report, then the claim was turned down becasue we told we had the wrong insurance. They offered us a 75 percent credit on a future curse. Never was told there were any more options on insurce even after all the contacts directly with Priness. Funny I also found out Priness owns the insurance company also. So beware if you ever book Priness. Its a full bait and switch operation and you are the bait.

First of all, I hope your wife is feeling better and got help with the pain.

It's an expensive, hard lesson. When they say you have the wrong insurance, do they tell you what that means? For example, are they denying you because your wife's cancer was pre-existing? Or do they give you another reason?

I know from my own experience having had cancer that you have to be clear that the coverage you get will include pre-existing conditions

  15. As for the McDonalds case. They lost due to prior warnings about the temperature of the coffee. She would have gotten a much larger payout if she had been burned without the stupidity of putting the cup between her legs. Of course without that stupidity she probably never burns herself in the first place.

Just adding that originally, the woman just asked for her medical bills to be covered from several things I've read about the case. McDonald's refused, so she sued. And yes, they had settle other lawsuits about their coffee. They served it hotter then most places, so a spill caused more serious burns faster.

  16. I also have a problem with the statement that by having cruisers tip - it allows the cruise line to not pay employees. You as a consumer will ALWAYS be the one paying the employees. You will do it with tips, or you will do it with a larger cruise fare. It's not the cruise line altruistically paying salaries without first collecting from a paying customer.

Exactly! We are going to pay either way.
