Except that there are TAs that give awesome service and DO NOT CHARGE FEES.

    Your choice......

My agent never charges a fee and I've cancelled several cruises.  Also, gives excellent perks.  I would not use an agent who charges a fee. I've also heard of agents who charge for any changes to a boooking.

Curious to know,  If casinos were non smoking on a RCL cruise ship, how much time would you spend on a daily basis in the casino?     Would you go and say play $20 till you lost it (or won!) or would you stay for the long term - and play for several hours every day or night?

Depends on whether I'm winning or not....  I play online poker, at home, for hours.  I never have to worry about smelling like smoke.

  3. I am always baffled by people that act like Deck 7 is poison. We had a JS on 7 on Allure and loved the location. The aft elevator situation (IMO) is not big deal after the first time you figure out how to avoid it. Of course, we also use the stairs most of the time. It was very convenient to the Boardwalk, Promenade and Central Park.

We also like Deck 7. As close to the back stairs as possible. There's a little area back there, close to the rock climbing wall, where you can watch the Aqua Theatre. It's also convenient to go down to the Promenade Café for coffee.

  4. We spent a day at the Alaska State Fair and it was a lot of fun. If you are doing a DIY trip, it's easy to work it in. It lasts about 12 days, after the middle of August. It's held in Palmer, which is a short drive from Anchorage. We spent a night at a B&B in Palmer.

I found the B&B's to be very reasonable in price and you also get your breakfast. We had very good meals. Just thinking about it, makes me want to do it again.:D

  5. Consider doing a Bed & Breakfast tour in Alaska. We did this a few years ago and loved it. We stayed in some really unique places. We flew into Anchorage and took a train to Fairbanks, stopping in Denali for two nights on our way north. We then flew from Fairbanks back to Anchorage and picked up a rental car to continue our tour. We flew home from Anchorage but you could work this in with a cruise. We've done two Alaska cruises so on this trip, we spent 10 days doing B&B's. I put this together, myself, without using a TA. I think one of the books I used was Alaska Planner. You can get it from the State of Alaska.

  6. If my travel agent didn't give me any perks, I would book directly with the cruiseline and cut out the middleman. I usually book my cruise directly with the cruiseline and then transfer to the TA within 60 days for 10%sb credit.

When we first started cruising, we had to use an agent, since online booking wasn't available and agents offered little to no incentive to book with them. They didn't have to, to get your business. Very few brick and mortar agencies exist anymore. My, how times have changed. :)

  7. For our flight to Copenhagen, we will be doing Round Trip from our home in Southern Calif to Boston since our TA ends in Boston, then 1 way Boston to Copenhagen. I was surprised to find out, that Norwegian Air was very competitive with E 2 Air on their 1 way pricing. Last price I found for my husband & I out of Boston to CPH, $772 total. ( E 2 Air & Norwegian ).

Do you have a link for E2Air? The only thing I find when I Google it, is for Heating & Air. :)

  8. I already told them to move whoever is in that cabin to the Jr Suite. But they're claiming it's a maintenance issue.

I'll bet they'll suddenly get that "maintenance issue" fixed and somebody will be in that cabin. I've had a few aft cabins and they're wonderful. They, at least should have had the courtesy to call. Keep after them, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Good luck.

  9. So this is a situation we have never seen and hope we wont again.

Im also not pointing fingers at any nationality, as I saw some rude Americans as well, especially in the guest service line:eek:

But an interesting side note. The other couple we sat with, his father was actually part of the Great Escape. The movie that starred Steve McQueen.

His father is still alive and actually attended the veteran reunion last year at the German prison camp museum in Poland(I think). Something like the reunion of Pearl Harbor they use to do.

We were also on this cruise and I agree this was the rudest bunch of passengers we have ever encountered. The pushing and shoving was terrible. We are not new to cruising and have taken at least 10 transatlantics. We are presently booked on the Harmony, for next years T.A. and are seriously considering canceling.

The lines for almost everything were terrible and MTD is not handle correctly. If you have a reservation for the same time and table every night, you should not have to stand in line and wait every night, sometimes up to 20 minutes. The Allure is just not a well run ship.

People seem to love Captain Johnny but maybe he should spend more time supervising and less on socializing. :(

  10. I have a promenade cabin above guest relations - is it safe to assume that is a quiet area? Please say yes!

The problem is, you're not likely to see much going on below you. We had a promenade cabin, deck 7, above and across from Guest Relations and it is outside the area where all the activity is. We also had a large cup hanging in front of our window. Not a good view at all. I would never book that cabin again.
