  1. My DH and I will be in Grand Cayman on a cruise from 7:00 am until 3:30 pm. and are interested in taking a tour of the Rum Distillary in Georgetown. The tour begins at 1:00 and lasts approximately 30-40 minutes. Our concern is getting back to the ship in time for our 3:30 departure. Has anyone done this tour before that can give us an idea if this is feasible? Any information would be greatly appreciated :)

  2. Friars Bay is not that great a beach - every time I've been there I have noticed a vague smell of sewage. There is a food stand there which may have a phone, but you would probably want to make firm arrangements with the driver who drops you off to come pick you up at an agreed time. Unless they have done a lot of work on the road in the past year, it is a long bumpy drive getting there and, in my opinion, not worth the effort.

Yes, it is close to Marigot, but better options would be to head to Orient, Le Galion, or Dawn after Marigot: the total driving time - Marigot to beach plus beach back to port would be about the same --- and you would have a better beach with better facilities and better taxi connections.

Thank you so much. We would really like to go to a beach that is not as populated as Orient but that does have the option of food/bar. Do both Le Galion and Dawn have those types of facilities?

  3. My DH and I will be stopping in St. Martin for the day on our upcoming cruise and would like to make a quick stop in Marigot (Seraphinas & marketplace) and then head over to Friars Bay for a little beach/relaxation time. Searching through these boards it seems that we should have no problem catching a taxi from Phillipsburg to Marigot and from Marigot to Friars Bay. Does anyone know how difficult it would be to get a taxi back to the port from Friars Bay? I'm trying to determine if this is an option or if we would need to hire a driver for the day? If that is the case, does anyone know of a reputable company that we could use to do this. We have been to the island a few times and have done both land and water tours so this time we're just looking to go at our own pace. I appreciate any advice that you may have.

  4. Sitting at the airport waiting for my return flight for our trip to the Caribbean. We went with Capt Bob in St. Martin and it was probably the highlight of our vacation. We were also on a cruise and were to be back on the ship by 4:30. Capt Bob is very much aware of these times and we had no problem getting back in time. The local time in St. Martin was 1 hour ahead of our "ship" time so when we returned to the dock, we still had at least an hour until we were due back on the ship. (We cruised with Royal Caribbean). I hope this helps and you have a wonderful vacation!
