  1. Thanks for the advice everyone! It will be Jet Blue that we are flying with so it's nice to hear they have their own terminal. I wanted to avoid the later flight because it will get in too late for me to attempt the 4 hour drive home. It the airport is that crazy on Sundays, maybe we should just spend an extra night in San Juan and fly out on Monday...that would beat staying in Buffalo!

The Liberty is the only ship in port that day. Does that make much difference?

  2. Hi all,

The Liberty is scheduled to arrive back to San Juan at 7am. We will have faster to the fun and will carry our own bags off the ship. The flight I planned to book was for 11AM. I thought that gave us plenty of time to make it to the airport barring any major delays. But, I just found out that Carnival recommends no flights before 12 noon, so now I am second guessing myself. We would have to wait until 2:30 PM if we passes up the 11AM flight.

Thoughts? Thanks so much for any advice. :)

  3. Thanks for the info about the walk!

One more question...I know it is a couples resort, is it exclusively for couples? I read somewhere that you couldn't reserve three spots because it is strictly for couples only.

  4. Hi all!

I am trying to find the current cost of a day pass at the Rendezvous Resort. All of the threads I have found are a few years old. I have emailed the Resort, but I hear it takes a while for them to get back to you and I am so impatient when it comes to cruise planning!! :D

Recent taxi fares to get there would also be helpful!

    Thanks so much!

  5. We just sailed the Pride for the 2nd time. My lengthy review will be written soon but yes you can control the temperature in your cabin. It was a wonderful cruise again so please look for my review soon. Extended balcony room 7252. June 9-16 sailing.

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

    Yipee! Can't wait!

  6. Hi everyone!

I read a few pages back that the poster had no control over the cabin tempurature and that it was uncomfortable warm in the cabin.

I'll be on the Pride in the middle of August. They cant possible have a summer caribbean cruise with no AC, can they??

If anyone would like to link their pride review, I would appreciate it! :D

    Thanks!

  7. The glitch in Canada is that because it's free, everyone with the sniffles has it checked out by going to the doctor. The wait at the clinic is easily 4+ hours if you can get a spot that day and the ER probably 12+. Montreal area hospitals are operating at way over capacity.

The meds I buy in Mexico are simply to save time. I hate having to show up at the clinic at 7am, stand outside for an hour before the clinic opens just to make sure I have a spot in line to see the doctor so he can prescribe the meds I already know I need. My family doctor ? Well if you want an appointement wih her, it will probably be in 3 months... But it's free !!

It's not all bad, don't get me wrong, but sometimes for little things... you better bring along a good book... I have to take a day off work to go to the clinic so I "pay" that way (lost wages)...

Wow, wait times are nothing like you describe where I live. You have to take a day off?? So you don't have after hours clinics? If I show up about 25 mins early to the after hours clinic, then I am usually close to the front of the line and in and out in a few mins once they open. And I definately don't go for the sniffles!! Haha I dislike going to the doctor way too much to do that...usually it's darn ear infections!

  8. Perhaps people also need a crash course in personal responsibility. I equally can't stand the thought of having to pay every time someone else walks into a clinic and I have no problem understanding that I'm going to have to pay when I walk into the clinic because I don't expect a handout.

I guess I believe that access to healthcare is a right, not a privledge. And I have no problem helping my neighbour through the taxes I pay because I may find myself if need of some help at some point...call it a handout if you want...I think of it more as a hand-up. JMHO

  9. Wow, this thread makes me realize how much I take the health care here in Canada for granted. I cannot imagine having to pay every time I have to go to my Dr. or a walk in clinic.

and the comment made about refusing treatment for those who cannot pay has got to be the cruelest, most ignorant comment I have read on CC. Someone needs a crash course in social inequality and perhaps empathy.

  10. I go to Wilfrid Laurier in Waterloo and for my smaller classes my profs do take attendance and especially in tutorials/labs attendance is always taken and around 10-15% of the grade is based on attendance to those sections of the course. But like you said her profs probably wont notice she's gone if she has large lectures.

I was wondering where you went becuase you mentioned fall reading week. I know a few people at Laurier. I go to Queen's! :)

  11. More replies, more thanks. My daughter will be attending the University of Hawaii. The cruise is actually Oct. 30, so after Mid-terms according to the current students this year. She is a bright girl and has had to make up a lot of work this year due to 2 serious illnesses and a torn ACL, so the extra work load would not be all that new to her.

If we go, this will probably be the last time she will cruise with me. As I stated before, she doesn't want to cruise from 18-20 years old. I love our mother-daughter time and want it one last time.

    Decisions, decisions.

I'm curious as to what your daughter will be majoring in. If she will be taking a variety of math, physical sciences courses than she may well find it tough to miss a week of lectures. This really depends on her learning style though; if she is able to gather meaning from simply reading over text and lecture notes (which some people are) then she would be ok. You should also consider whether or not she will have weekly labs (biology etc...) These are generally not able to be made up without a valid reason for the absence.

I graduated last year with an honours bachelor of science in psychology. I could have VERY EASILY missed a week of class in first year. It would not have been an issue at all as long as no tests were scheduled (and I maintained a 90% + average in order to maintain a scholarship). Read ahead, complete and submit assignments ahead of time and get lecture notes off another student.

The points of others who feel it is not a good idea are valid, but I feel some are forgetting the diversity of experiences in post secondary education. The solution is context dependent. You must consider your daughter and her study habits, learning style and the type of classes she will be taking.

    Again, good luck! :)

  12. Hello! I will be graduating with my 2nd degree in June. I would have been very excited to be taken on a trip at any point during my schooling...being surprised on the other hand would have been a disaster!!

Depending on her workload and the type of classes she is taking it could be completely fine. Some profs do take attendace and award participation marks; others give weekly quizes and in my experience they would not accept vacay as an valid excuse! But on the other hand they are often weighted very lightly, so missing one wouldn't be the end of the world.

I found 1st year to be a read the text, write the test kind of year. However, depending on her program, your daughters experience could be completely different.

So...I think it would a great idea IF you ask her in advance so she could confirm that she wouldn't miss any important tests and could work ahead to complete any assignments that will be due while you are away.

You don't have to give her any details other than when the trip will be.

Good luck! I hope it works out!
