  1. Hi there,

My wife and I just turned Diamond and are going on the Symphony next month.  I know we each get 4 drink vouchers loaded on our cards each day.  Question - if I only use 3 vouchers the first day will I have 5 vouchers to use the 2nd day?  If I don't use any in a day will the 4 vouchers be there to use the next day and I can use 8 the next day???  Or is it use the 4 vouchers or lose it each day?  Thanks!

  2. Hi East Coast Cruisers,

We will be cruising on Anthem of the Seas for spring break 2019 (March 30, 2019.) It will be my wife and 3 kids (17, 12 & 9.) We are from Oregon and my wife and kids have never been to New York City. We love cruising and have been on 12 cruises, but all out of Florida and Galveston. My wife and two older girls (17 & 12), will be leaving 3 days early to "sight see" in New York and I will come day before cruise with youngest son. Here is my tentative plan and I was hoping you "Newark and NYC experts" could comment good or bad and offer some advice. I have about two more months before flights and hotels open up. FYI, we like to travel as nice as we can but on a reasonable budget (i.e. we like "good deals", but would spend more if it made sense or was more practical.) Also, wife and daughters are alert and seasoned travelers. Here is the draft plan:

    • Wife and two daughters leave Wednesday morning and fly to EWR and stay at Springhill Suites Newark Liberty Airport. Free airport/hotel shuttle.
    • Thursday: they shuttle back to EWR and take trains to NYC. Sightsee NYC.
    • Friday: they shuttle back to EWR and take trains to NYC. See Broadway play/sightsee NYC.
    • Friday: I fly into EWR with younger son and meet up with them that night at hotel (son and I don't need to see NYC, plus I'm limited with time off at work. However, I am looking forward to seeing it from the ship!)
    • Saturday: we taxi or private shuttle to Port and board ship.
    • Weeklong cruise to Bahamas on Anthem of the Seas!
    • Saturday return AM: we fly out of EWR between 12:00-3:00pm to PDX

Does this sound like a reasonable/feasible plan? How hard and safe is it to get from EWR into NYC sightseeing places (i.e. Times Square, Statue of Liberty, Broadway play, other???) How long is the train? Would it be better for them to stay somewhere else for the 2-3 nights before we leave for cruise? If so, where? Would a better airport be better for them flying in? The Springhill Suites Newark Airport sounds like a good home base but I'm not sure? Right now they have two full days to see NYC. Should they add a night and come in Tuesday? Any advice, comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

  3. Hi everyone,

Happy cruising! We've sailed out of FLL before, but we usually book a noon orlater flight and I can't recall how tight our timing was. We are sailing theAllure in December and I'm considering booking a 10:30am return flight becausethat is what is currently available at a good price. If we self-carry luggage and getup early can we easily make a 10:30am flight at FLL on Sunday, December 10th? Thanksfor any advice.

  5. Hi everyone,

We are cruising on Liberty of Seas next week with our four kids (7, 10, 15 & 17) and I was wondering if any of the beaches on West Bay have inflatable slides/mountains, obstacle courses or trampolines like the beaches in Cozumel? Our kids love the water parks out in the ocean and we usually do that in Cozumel, but this time I'm thinking of surprising my wife and them with the Dolphin Swim in Cozumel. I'm now looking for a beach day in Roatan and hoping to find one with inflatable toys. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!:ship:

  6. We flew into Hobby on Saturday and our family of 6 took a taxi to a Galveston hotel for $102 + $20 tip. We sailed on the Liberty April 3rd and had a great trip. Upon return, we took a taxi from the port to a Hobby hotel for $108 +$22 tip. Our flight left Monday morning so we had to spend Sunday night near the airport. The taxis worked great and was the best deal for six of us (me, wife and 4 kids.) I researched all options for weeks before dedicing on this route. All went well.

  7. Hi SunFan03,

The Oasis is a great ship! No, we didn't end up going to Blue Hole. We decided to just stay and relax at the Margaritaville pool all day in Falmouth. We enjoyed ourselves and the pool area was super nice. We are going on the Liberty in April with the kids and planning to go to Blue Hole then. I'm not sure which operator we will use for 6 of us. If you find a good one please let me know. Thanks!

  8. Hi everyone,

My wife and I will be sailing on the Oasis in a few weeks and stopping in Falmouth on 12/8. We usually plan our own excursions (outside of the ship sponsored ones) and hire a local company or do our own thing. We have done Dunns River a few times, but have never been to Blue Hole. Questions:

    1. Is Blue Hole worth seeing if we have already done Dunns River Falls

    2. I read that Blue Hole is 2 hours away from Falmouth. Is this true? If so, is there enough time to do this and get back to the ship? I'm worried being that far away from the ship incase the vehicle breaks down or something else happens.

We are in our early 40's and pretty adventurous. I'm just worried about straying that far from the ship in a non-sponsored ship excursion. Note> RCL doesn't offer a ship sponsored excursion to Blue Hole. Anyone know why not?

    Thanks!

  9. Hi everyone,

I know these questions have been asked before but I'm really trying to figure out the best option for our spring break cruise next April. This is the first time we have sailed out of Galveston so it will be new to us. Traveling is me, wife and 4 kids (ages 16, 14, 9 & 6.) We arrive in HOU on Saturday, the day before cruise, around 5:00pm and will be sailing on Liberty of Seas. Our return flight is not until Monday morning at 8:00am following our Sunday return. Questions:

    1. Should we stay in HOU near airport and take shuttle/taxi to Port in morning? Or, should we travel to Galveston on Saturday and take taxi to port in morning from hotel there?

    2. How much is taxi from HOU airport to Galveston?

    3. On return, we have all Sunday to do something. Any suggestions? We are thinking of renting a car (Texas City?) and exploring Galveston (maybe waterpark) and then drive back to HOU airport hotel for night. Not sure how we rent car in Galveston/Texas City to do this. If not, we will probably take taxi/shuttle back to airport hotel and hang there all day, but that sounds a little boring.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  10. We used Travelynx the 3 times we have cruised from MCO and they have been great. We just got back from the Freedom of Seas last week and had a blast. Our family of 6 flew into MCO, stayed at Springhill suites (free shuttle from MCO) and then used Travelynx in morning to port (they picked us up at hotel.) We used Travelynx on return trip and everything was great. $120/each way for our family of 6. Good luck!

  11. Hi everyone,

We are sailing on the Freedom of Seas with our 4 kids (14, 12, 7 & 4) in April and I'm trying to do some event planning. I'm trying to figure out which 2 nights are the formal dining nights and what nights/times the main shows are (marriage, Quest, etc...) Does anyone know this information or know if it is posted anywhere? I'm trying to figure out the best night to possibly do Portifinos for me and wife and what time to book dinner on other nights. Thanks!!!
