  1. On a 14 night cruise how many gala nights and theme nights would there be? We like to dress up, tuxedo for husband and dress for me. Also like to get involved with theme nights if I know what they are!😁

  2. We enjoyed the Crown Grill food, steaks were delicious. The service was efficient but as someone else said not very warm. We were just left after dessert with the plates in front of us. Unfortunately both my husband and I have now got covid. From the coughing and spluttering I imagine many people have. Also the medical response was very slow. Around 4-5 hours before we got a call back. At least its the end of the cruise rather than the beginning.

Well I see we are in the small minority here that would feel much safer if masking was still required!

California has dropped the indoor mask requirement but most of my friends are still wearing them

I am very sorry that most people in here feel they are relieved to stop using this protection

I am also in the small minority. Still high infection rates and concerns about long Covid so I will continue to wear a mask indoors in public places for the foreseeable. I’m from the UK.

  4. We have been in May, great weather, visited Stavanger in September ( son lives there) and weather varied from lovely cool sunny to pouring rain. Have visited Norway in June/ July and had rain. My clever husband says it depends on the position of the jet stream.

I love Norway and would go anytime, just take the right ( waterproof) clothes.

  5. We did a fjords cruise in Early May and we were very lucky, some sunshine and no rain. Going on another this May. Our son lives in Norway and he says they class it good weather when it doesn’t rain. I think it’s very much the luck of the draw. Someone said ( don’t know who) ‘ no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes’. Enjoy your cruise, I absolutely loved the fjords. X

  6. We have sailed on RC, P and O and Celebrity. I think the standard of food has decreased over the seven years we have been cruising on all of the lines we have done ( sometimes twice a year). One time seemed to be a ‘ cabbage ‘ year on P and O, every evening in MDR the veg of choice! Saying that we enjoy every cruise, we set out to enjoy it and invariably we do. I think the choice in MDR on RC is better. Only sailed on Celebrity once and feel that was the best food. Overall love that the food is cooked for us and my husband doesn’t have to slave over the stove.

  7. Please do not cancel. I waited years to visit Venice and I got my wish last year. We also cruised to Italy a year before. Fabulous! The stories on Fox News which came to my attention on social media were breathtaking in their inaccuracy.

I live approx 8 miles from Birmingham,England and I didn't recognise the city from the scaremongering going on. We visit most weekends and the stories were complete lies. The so called expert from Fox ended up donating to our children's hospital to try to make amends for the upset he had caused. Bad things happen everywhere but good things also happen but we tend not to publicise those. Have a lovely trip and enjoy. :)

  8. Hi Ashley

Just read your posts from beginning to end and loved them. I am from England so much of what is written on CC is from the American perspective which I love. Enthusiastic, joyful and enchanting. I honeymooned in Paris almost 28 years ago and will celebrate my 28th anniversary on Celebrity Eclipse cruising the Norwegian Fjords in May. I will also enjoy some of your destinations in June such as Venice and Dubrovnik which I am really looking forward to. My husband is a retired police officer and it is lovely to enjoy our time together on cruises ( he won't fly anymore). Your wedding photos were beautiful and I wish you as much happiness as I have had. We took our sons on a cruise last year to Scandinavia and Russia and it was fabulous. If I win the lottery we will take them again!! Carry on writing and cruising and may all your troubles be little ones! (think this is an English saying meaning babies). x

  9. I too have BPPV as a result of a blow to the head. Epley Maneuver takes care of it. An occasional relapse can be cleared up with one session of Epley. I'm sure you know how to perform it? I too was worried about my first cruise after this happened, but never a problem on the ship.

Yes before I was officially diagnosed I watched a You Tube video of the Epley manoeuvre and taught myself to do it.. Probably caused myself whiplash but cured the BPPV! :)

  10. Most importantly relax and don't stress too much. If you like dressing up do it, if you like to go casual do that. Read cruise critic as some fab info but don't take things to heart particularly if start discussing formal wear (don't think the United Nations could get people to agree on that topic!). Have a fabulous time.

  11. Hi

Our first cruise was on the Independence and we absolutely loved it. Caught the cruising bug. Did some of the same ports and agree with the other replies. We were very anxious about the ship leaving without us but we didn't book excursions for Cadiz, Vigo, Gibralta, Palma or Lisbon. All were doable by walking/catching the city cruise tour buses and sometimes the shuttle from the ship. I red as much as I could about the ports and also looked at loads of threads on cruise critic. Have a fab time.

  12. Hi

A couple of years ago I woke up with very bad vertigo every time I made a sudden movement. Long story short I had benign paroxymal positional vertigo (crystals loose in the ear apparently, not as glamorous as it sounds!!) I had a cruise booked and was very concerned. I have to say the cruise made no difference what so ever. I have now recovered but have an occasional relapse I wouldn't be worried about cruising with it but I am very aware that there are many causes of vertigo and some are more problematic than others. I wish you well and hope you can continue to cruise.

  13. Been reading this thread for about an hour now (half that time crying). What lovely stories, both happy and sad. A colleague was talking about what she would want to do if she was told she only had months to live and I said 'please don't wait till then to do what your heart desires'. My husband and I have booked our four and fifth cruise with only five weeks apart for this year. We aren't rich but we won't be in debt and as we say 'it's only money!!'.

I like to think I will only regret the things I haven't done and cruising won't appear on the list. Good luck to all and happy sailing. :)

  14. My husband is a jeans and t-shirt type (had to wear a uniform for work so no way a suit at home) but he LOVES his tux on formal nights. He even bought a white one from e-bay. I love the dressing up ( as a nurse also had to wear a uniform for a lot of my career) so I get the glad rags on whenever I can. Try it he might like it.

Also last cruise my sons came and I managed to get a Hugo Boss tux from a charity shop which fitted one son and another Tux from e-bay which fitted the other so no great spending involved (didn't tell number two son that his brother had Hugo Boss though!)

Enjoy whatever suit he wears (as long as not his birthday suit as someone is sure to object). :)

  15. Hi I-Cruiser. Thanks for your reply re clothes to wear in May. I am still mithering about clothing required so hope you can help again. The temp in England currently is around 6 degrees centigrade which we consider quite cold. I know temps vary in Norway but what could we expect in early May? Don't want to pack too much but want to be comfortable. Also I notice in one of your other posts that the Road of the Trolls might be closed then. What are the options for us to get the most of our trip. Our ports are Bergen, Flam, Geiranger, Alesund, and Stavanger. I am so excited. It must be fabulous to live in such a beautiful place.

  16. I have always been incredibly travel sick on cars, boats, coaches even fair gound rides . I was very nervous about my first cruise and stocked up on medication. I have never needed it once ( only cruised in Med and Baltic, never Caribbean). On my second cruise I was suffering from vrtigo and still was never sick. Those stabilisers work a treat! Hope you are ok.
