  1. We were on the Getaway Haven in Jan. and the pool/deck area was never crowded...in fact there were very few people there giving you an almost"private" area to enjoy!   The Haven dining room was excellent and the bar staff very accommodating.  Everything about the Haven experience was positive and after 40+ cruises on Celebrity and other lines, we're booked again in Jan. on the Escape for another cruise!  Enjoy!

  2. We were loyal Celebrity cruisers for many years but really got tired of the lack of quality entertainment at night and the lackluster quality of the cruises overall.  We tried The NCL Haven on Getaway and loved the experience!  Food in the Haven dining room was equal or better than luminae on Celebrity and the entertainment choices in the evening were incredible in comparison!  We're senior citizens who cruised in top suites on Celebrity and are not sorry we made the change...already booked on the Escape Haven next Jan.   Never was bothered by kids or the number of people on the ship...loved the Haven pool and sundeck area!   Try something new and enjoy!

  3. We were loyal Celebrity cruisers for years but really wanted to try something different.  We did the Haven on the Getaway and loved the change!  The dining in the Haven was excellent and the entertainment choices in the evening put Celebrity's old, un-inspiring shows to shame!  There were lots of people, yes...but we never felt overwhelmed or crowded, especially with the Haven's upper sundeck area and dedicated bar.  We're already booked for the Escape for next Jan. and don't intend to return to Celebrity.  Happy cruising!

  4. We're former Celebrity cruisers who tired of the lack of entertainment and the "bland" offerings so we tried the Haven on the Getaway last month (had been in a Royal Suite on Celebrity) and loved the experience!!!   Dining in the Haven restaurant was equal to Luminae on Celebrity and the aft cabin w/ large balcony and butler service was great.  Entertainment was a huge improvement...Million Dollar Quartet was so good we went back to see it again!   It's a much larger ship but with many more activities and venues...the Haven pool/sundeck area is superb!   Try it...you'll like it!   (we've already booked for next Jan!)

  5. Sailing on Getaway in the Haven...first Norwegian cruise in probably 20 years!   Rec'd a note saying we could request dining and show reservations prior to the cruise...is this really advantageous or should we just wait until boarding and speak to the concierge re: our specific requests.   We're "new" to the Haven and the scheduling system after many years of Celebrity sailings (got boring and dull!)...thanks in advance for your info.

  6. We're veteran cruisers who are venturing on Getaway for our first NCL cruise in Jan. and wondered what time the Haven and other specialty dining venues started serving dinner in the evening? We know the evening shows start at 7:30 PM and wondered whether there was sufficient time to have a nice dinner and make it to that first evening show. Thanks in advance and looking forward to some new adventures on Getaway...our days on Celebrity ships really got boring and the entertainment was the pits!

  7. We have been on over 40 cruises,,,most recent years on Celebrity out of PR to southern Carib. and are now looking forward to the Getaway in the Haven in Jan. Thanks so much for your fantastic review with all its detailed info. concerning dining menus and ship amenities, etc. We were hesitant about booking on a ship this size but look forward to a "new" experience" and esp ecially the entertainment shows on this ship... we're not as concerned about the ports of call as the escape from our cold NJ weather in January! Great job and thanks for all the time and effort you put into this review!!!:D

  8. We just completed a cruise on Summit from San Juan to Ft. Lauderdale and "in the old days" there would be a comment form to be filled out and submitted before disembarking. We were told that we should enter comments on the "survey" on line after the cruise (many of the crew encouraged us to submit comments because they were stellar in performance and we wanted to compliment their service) but I can't find this form anywhere on the Celebrity website and haven't received any email about it. Anyone have a suggestion???

  9. Just try getting up and into the tub/shower each day in the sky suite as opposed to the nice, easily accessible dedicated shower in the Royal Suite and tell me there is no appreciable difference! Once we moved to the more spacious Royal Suite on Summit a few cruises back, we never considered returning to a Sky Suite. We have a delightful breakfast each morning delivered by our butler and enjoyed in a nice dining area....ahhh...that's all what you're paying for! To each his own but we're staying with the Royal Suite because we just wouldn't go back to the Sky suite again. Only our opinion!

  10. We were on the Jan. cruise aboard Summit from San Juan and ate all our dinners in Luminae except one night at Tuscan Grill. We do this cruise every year and had eaten every night in Normandie on past cruises...the best experience ever! Well, Tuscan Grill is certainly not Normandie and was a disappointment. Food was okay, service marginal and the wine service lacking. We loved Luminae with it's varied menu, wonderful wine selctions from Ingrid, our sommelier and would recommend it highly.

  11. We just returned from the same cruise and found all is well on the Summit! I don't miss the "hawking" of drinks around the pool area as in the past and always saw wait staff available for those who needed to imbibe. We were in a Royal Suite and really enjoyed Luminae for our dinners...had eaten every evening in Normandie in the past and were dismayed with the replacement of Tuscan Grill...tried it only one night and were under-impressed with food choices, service and overall experience. The ship has been redone, especially the Thasso-pool area, and the overall experience is still a very relaxing and positive one. Already booked for next year at this time and will continue to enjoy the amenities offered...can't believe the amount of watches and jewelry in the shop area though! Can't imagine with all the food offerings throughout the ship as well as with room/butler service that anyone had a problem keeping "well-nourished"! :)

  12. Did the Barbados Beach Break last Jan. aboard Summit and was very disappointed with the beach they took us to....not nearly as nice as in past years to the Tiki Hut Beach venue and they raised the price by $10! There was limited seating/umbrellas (staff was trying to accommodate everyone on the bus trip with less chairs/umbrellas than needed for that number) and this beach area was far less relaxed than at Tiki Hut area. Anyone do this tour this season and where did they take you??? Thanks for any input.

  13. It's interesting that they are actually doing two "seating" times in the specialty restaurant as opposed to individually staggered times as in the past. We could schedule Normandie for whatever time we desired and the food was always impeccable. Sounds like we'll be eating in Luminae instead...we were impressed by the food at the lunch and breakfast we had there last year...it was the close seating that was a "turn-off" for us. We like a dining experience without others within arms-length of you. Thanks for the responses!

  14. Likewise have sailed on many Celebrity ships including the Century, Zenith and even the final cruise on the Meridian! Like Summit best of all. Can you tell us what your impressions are of the new Tuscan Grill...we really will miss the ambience and food of Normandie when we return in Jan. Have a great cruise!:)

  15. Thanks so much for everyone's feedback! We know it is all subject to individual tastes but our experiences over the years at Normandie were exceptional. I did like our arrival day lunch and debarkation breakfast in luminae. Our only trepidation is the close proximity of the tables there...we do like to have some "elbow room" privacy at dinner but perhaps at an early time there won't be people at your elbow!

  16. We've cruised on Summit for many years in a Royal Suite and have always opted to dine every evening in Normandie....the food and service was superb and they would make anything that we desired! Ahh....... Now, we have Tuscan Grill...should we just dine in Luminae or Tuscan Grill...input please...:)

  17. Just the bathroom alone in the RS is enough to choose that venue over the CS!!! Getting into that tub/shower in either the sky suite or celebrity suite was a ridiculous adventure. Plenty of room in the RS and the added amenities are really worth it...we couldn't go back to a celebrity suite now. You'll find that as you "ascend" to the next level of suites, you become spoiled and it's very difficult to go back to something less! Happy cruising!

  18. Still hoping someone has some pictures of the remodeled room??? Not liking what has been described as the changes to our favorite dining venue with a table for two at the window...blinds slats covering those windows? Really?? Again, our experience with the food in Luminae was excellent but sitting next to someone two feet away was not what we considered comfortable dining. I guess that will be our alternative if we don't do Tuscan Grill each evening!
