  1. We did this excursion on 7/5. We (wife, adult son, 7 yo daughter, and myself of course) enjoyed it very much. To answer some of the questions:

Our excursion ran about 15 minutes late in starting.

Didn't leave the pier, got on before we left the pier area. They dropped us off by Senor Frog's after the excursion was over.

    Our catamaran provided flippers.

The life jackets provided were the foam vest variety.

We were one of three boats snorkeling the reef that day and it did get a bit crowded.

I have a video of our excursion here:

Perhaps this would be helpful? Please excuse the resolution, I can't watch shaky videos so I've employed fairly aggressive image stabilization.

  2. I'm definitely open to the idea as I will be visiting on the Splendor at the same time that the Vista will be in port. So with over 6,000+ cruise passengers in port, do you have suggestions on other less crowded beaches in Grand Turk? Thanks in advance!

Was in Grand Turk on 7/3 on Conquest, Vista was there at the same time. It was far too crowded for our tastes. If I had planned ahead, I would have happily gotten away from the port area.

  3. We were on the same cruise and I will +1 this. We downloaded while waiting in the customs line. I downloaded, got 4 passports and the questionnaire completed while in the line and we'd barely moved. Left to get in the mobile line and were out in about 20 minutes. Our porter was very happy for this.

I also remember commenting to my wife that there seemed to be too few customs agents that day. It was my first cruise from PEV. Are they always like that?

  4. We haven't been there since 2011. But at that time we did the RR park and cruise; the car stayed in their garage. I don't have any info on the Hampton Inn, just that the hotels are across the street from one another. Hope this is a little help.

  5. Hi, we sail July 16th and was wondering if there were any good bands on the ship? We love classic rock. This will be our 14th cruise with Carnival and sometimes we are very happy with the house band and other times, it's really lacking. Thanks in advance!

There was a band that played several nights outside of the casino on our cruise in June. We enjoyed them quite a bit and they had a broad repertoire of classic rock spanning several decades of music. Hope y'all have a great cruise!

  6. Morning!

We leave for the Valor in 12 days (OMG!!!) and have tried to make reservations several times for the steakhouse. Should we receive some sort of email verification confirming our reservation? Between my wife and I, we have sent four emails but have heard nothing back.

    Thank you!!

    Jeff

We are just off of Valor on Friday. Ate at the steak house on Tuesday night. We made our reservation well in advance (>1mo.) and never received confirmation email. However, the steak house called and left a message for us in our cabin on Monday to confirm the reservation.

  7. Just curuous. Not questioning her seaworthyness and I know the hull wasn't one piece before this was done, however, I'm curious as to what effect cutting out a section of hull and bracing and then welding it back in would have? Would this have been done along the original joint lines? Is there now an addition point where the bracing/hull will flex?

Not a ship expert, but generally (at least in piping and tanks) welds are considered to be stronger than base material.

  8. Looks like they are staging down equipment now.

Just saw the CBP agent with his dog get into a bit of a discussion with the boat operator about his ID, not sure what's going on there.

The "bondo" that someone mentioned last night may have been a ceramic backer that prevents air from contaminating the weld. I've seen this used where the backside isn't accessible (like in critical piping, etc.), but its never been spread on, and again, haven't seen this on hull welding before. Will require some research, learn something new every day.

Could it be Solar (Soda) Flux?
