When you purchase OBC through Onboard Reservations, the exchange rate is already calculated.  If it says $130 CDN = $100 US, your credit card will be charged $130.

    Purchase OBC online

    go to the casino

open a casino account on a slot machine

transfer OBC from your account to your casino account

play so they can not say you are using as a cash machine

cash out your money to your casino account

go to cashier to cash out your casino account to get cash

Thank you for your step by step instructions😊

Buy onboard credits online then when you need USD buy in at one of the casino tables, play a couple of hands then get up and leave. Cash the chips at the cashier.

Thank you!!  I believe I did this years ago after playing a slot machine but wasn't sure if this method of receiving cash is still allowed.  Am just wondering though if I use my credit card to buy extra onboard credit online wouldn't I be charged the exchange rate by the credit card company?

  3. Does anyone know if Cdn. cash can be exchanged for US cash at the purser's desk?  We live in British Columbia and the banks charge 38%.  I noticed on cruise personalizer when you want to buy additional onboard credit, Princess exchange rate is 30%.  I mainly want to buy US currency for spending in ports.  I spoke to someone at Princess and she said yes you can buy US currency at the purser's desk, however I'm not quite convinced.  If I purchase extra onboard credit is there a way I can obtain cash through the casino slots?  I remember a few years ago someone mentioned this on the Princess forums but I've forgotten exactly how they went about it.  Would appreciate any input from other Cdn. cruisers.

  4. I have checked into an earlier flight but it would be 10 am and the next is 5:45 pm which is the one we're on. I called the Sheraton and Marriott at LAX and they said for day rate rooms you have to call the day you disembark, no advance booking:(. Not sure if other hotel chains near Lax have the same policy. Has anyone else been able to book a day rate room in advance, if so, please tell me where. We're not to keen on spending 5-6 hours at an airport lounge, neither of us do much reading. Much rather be spending that time at a hotel pool enjoying the Calif. sunshine.

  5. Our flight departs LAX at 5:45 pm to Vancouver after disembarking from the Coral Princess on Sept. 19. Any suggestions on how to kill 6- 7 hours? We do not want to rent a car and drive on those busy freeways. The ship has an excursion to Venice Beach and Santa Monica but would drop us off at LAX 1 pm, which still leaves us with 4 hours.

  6. I'm glad they were able to reassign you:hearteyes:. Being stuck in a cabin below the pool would've been such a downgrade. I must get you to add us in the roll call, in fact I will do that right now.

Sorry Tom and Dianne, for some reason I thought you were in charge of the roll call. I have asked crawford to add us. It's been a crazy day!!!

  7. There are two forward minis shown as available right now on the Princess website: C217 (Cat. ME) and B203 (Cat. MY--no balcony). I changed our cabin location after getting assigned it for our cruise next month. But I was lucky to get the assignment when there were plenty of available cabins to switch to. Princess will switch you from the category you got assigned to another available cabin in that category.

Since you know you have sleep issues with aft cabins, you should not have booked a guarantee. I know that the way the Princess website works, people are sometimes misled into believing that they are booking a guarantee for a certain area of the ship, not realizing that booking a guarantee means that Princess can assign you to any cabin on the ship in that category or higher.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions, much appreciated. I just called Princess again and spoke to a very nice lady who was able to reassign us to C217, thank you geoherb for checking. We have booked guarantees before and were usually assigned to mid ship but I don't think I'll take that chance again. Now we're really looking forward to our trip!!:D

  8. We will be on the Coral Princess on Sept. 12 and just received our cabin assignment which I'm very unhappy about as we got assigned an aft cabin:(:(. The vibration in the aft cabins ruins my sleep. I called Princess and the agent told me to ask for another cabin when we check in on the 12th but I'm concerned all the mini suites will be sold out by then. Has anyone had any luck changing cabins after it's been assigned?

  9. We got off the Royal a week ago and I couldn't agree more about the towels. Over the ten day cruise, the towels were grey, thin, and so hard you almost scratch your skin. It's like they got them off a very old ship. We asked our cabin steward to give us white towels. Occasionally we would get maybe one or two white towels, the rest were grey. Maybe they are not using bleach anymore, who knows. On the Grand class ships we always had white, plush, fluffy towels. The sheets on the Royal were fine though. There are just too many issues, besides the towels, for us to go back on the Royal.

  10. We will be on the Royal Princess Nov. 10 and wondered where the Happy Hour will be? Last cruise we did in Sept. on the Ruby, it was at Wheelhouse bar in the afternoon and Skywalkers in the evening, however, since there is no Skywalkers on the Royal, where will evening happy hour be held.

  11. We cruised on the Solstice last year from Hawaii to Vancouver. The ship is absolutely beautiful and the entertainment was great but the food in the MDR and buffet was way below average and that includes the service in MDR. The lack of choices and pitiful dessert in the buffet was most disappointing. Rude and lack of service in the MDR, rubbery prawns, lack of fruit on what was supposed to be a blueberry topped cheesecake .....we were told they didn't have any so all you get is sauce. However, the food in the specialty restaurants was great. Princess on the other hand has never disappointed. Tasty and varied buffet, you actually get cake and pie slices, not little squares that all taste the same as on Celebrity. Food and service always good in MDR and if you were in any way disappointed, you could opt for something else. We also enjoyed Sabatini's. We also sailed on the Celebrity Mercury several years ago .....most disappointing in every way. Will definitely stick with Princess.

  12. You might be able to do a Super Shuttle or something like that. I have never heard of a tour to/from PS/LA, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Driving that far is a giant pain, IMO.

I did ask the shuttle bus driver when we got off the Crown Princess last week and he said it would be about $200+ per person. Just a little too high. I know the drive sounds easy, but we will only be renting a car a few weeks here and there, and I can't see paying for a rental car that's just going to sit in the parking lot for 3 days, plus I'm just too chicken to drive on those crazy freeways.

  13. We will be staying in Palm Springs from Dec. 1 to Jan. 15 and are thinking of taking a couple of 3 day back to back cruises from L.A. to Ensenada to build up to elite status a little quicker. Does anyone have any ideas on transportation? Flying from P/S to LAX is too expensive, I'm not comfortable driving the freeway to LA, Greyhound makes too many stops and takes up to 5 hours, the mega bus does not go to P/S. Are there any tour companies that would get us there and back?

  14. My experience was this: On my recent cruise, I brought one bottle of wine in a carry on backpack (also two half liter cartons in the pockets). I was sent over to the wine table by security on entry to the terminal in FLL. I was asked "how many bottles do you have". I responded one, and opened my backpack to show (they did not ask how many cartons). They marked down my cabin number with one bottle. I also had packed a bottle of wine in my checked baggage, this came through without trouble. I should add that all this wine was the very inexpensive sort they sell at Publix near the port.

As a side note, I wound up leaving a bottle of cheap ship champagne, won as a prize, for my steward, after having to really work to finish the last bottle of Muscato on the last day ...

Good on you? We also love Moscato and were wondering if they sell it in cartons that we could pack in our suitcase? I've only seen chardonnays and the usual other wines in cartons. I'm always worried if I packed a bottle of wine in my suitecase that it may break and I'd have wine all over my clothes.

  15. I checked Priceline. There are 2 ways to do things. One is to bid.. which you have done with no luck. The other is where they show you hotels and a price. In this case the Crowne Plaza is $180. I think that they probably don't have a lot of rooms left and that is why you are being rejected. When I got the $75 bid the Crowne Plaza was showing about $150 (can't really remember though) if I just wanted to to book it on the part of Priceline with the hotel names and prices.

Hotwire works a little different. You don't bid. They tell you an area (such as LAX or San Pedro). After you pick it they show you hotels without the names. They list the price. You choose which one you want (they do tell you some of the amenities). After you have paid for it they then tell you your hotel's name. Looks like San Pedro only has a one star and a 2 star so not the Crowne Plaza. (You have to scroll down the long list til you see the star amount you want and also the area. Quickly looking I could not figure out how they order it).

If you want better than what is currently available in San Pedro you can try Long Beach. Just put in San Pedro and your nights and the list comes up with tons of areas including Long Beach. You can take a taxi over to the port . It might be closer than LAX.

Oh, almost forgot. After you click on an area and star level not only will it give you details about the hotel's amenities but it will also list about 6 different hotel chains that you might get.

I hope this helps you. Let us know what you did and got.

Thank you for all your great advice. There is also the Doubletree in San Pedro which was listed for $135 under Express Deals on Priceline. Since we don't arrive in LAX til about 10 am, I figured we may as well stay at a hotel by LAX and take Supershuttle to San Pedro cruiseship terminal the next day. Will let you know how I make out.

  16. You can lower when you pick a different area.

Thanks for the advice. I bid $80 for hotel at LAX for Sept. 26 and still got rejected. I will try once more in two days and bid $95 and if that's rejected I give up. Maybe at this time of year you have to bid higher? Does anyone know how Hotwire works? Do you also bid on hotels? Any advice greatly appreciated.
