  1. We have cruised Celebrity  with our granddaughter since she was 5 yo. We have enjoyed the smaller size of children in the ship allowing for more opportunities for her to enjoy activities. We just finished our 7 th Celebrity cruise with her this past December and at her request, booked another for December 2023

i should add that we have also cruised Disney. Too crowded and frantic for all of us!

Feel free to ask away any questions you may have. This was from Rome and had 5 ports of call.  Will post dailies later for each day. Excellent cruise overall with one negative. Corfu was cancelled the week before and we went to Bar Montengro from 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Who gets off the ship at 5:00 AM. I also learned that 250 crew were added and replaced in Montengro which makes me believe this was for no other reason than financial for NCL. I also learned that Bar does not charge for a travel visa for crew. I find it hard to believe that NCL on a moments notice had 250 crew from around the World come to Bar.

We were on the cruise right before you on the Escape. We had Corfu cancelled with nothing to replace it. We also had Croatia deleted and replaced with Malta. Mykonos was cancelled at the last minute allegedly due to rough seas although 3 other cruise ships were in port that day. And Athens and Santorini were switched at the last minute. Our Athens cruise tour was cancelled with no substitutions offered. It was my first Norwegian cruise - we enjoyed most of the cruise but these parts made it hard to know if we could consider another Norwegian cruise.

  3. I booked NCL air originally. I could only get a two day deviation for our flight to Rome. That left us with one day to tour instead of the two I wanted. So we booked our own tickets and we’re able to get a better itinerary than was was projected by NCL. Just an FYI- I am traveling with 2 teen granddaughters and this is a trip of a lifetime so didn’t want to miss a day.  All air charges were taken off our bill.

    1. Our first NCL cruise was supposed to be to Alaska this June with my granddaughter and her Mom. I have cruised Princess, Royal, Carnival, Disney and Celebrity. My choice is usually Celebrity if they have the itinerary and the price. Disney was fun but way over priced. Now trying to decide whether to book another NCL cruise with my cruise credit or take my refund.

Here is what's listed at the Carnival website:

    Exclusive Amenities
    • Priority check-in, embarkation & debarkation
    • Priority dinner reservations & main dining room time assignment
    • Two complimentary large bottles of water
    • Pillow-top mattresses
    • Bathrobes

I was just in a suite this past week and we had no bathrobes. 😆

  5. My wife is also prone to motion sickness. For the first few cruises she tried various forms of dramamine, patches, and creams. While somewhat effective, they left her tired and somewhat lethargic. Several cruises ago, I got her a Relief Band. It's like MAGIC!!!! She loves it, and uses it not only for cruises, but for long car rides, flights, etc. Best thing I ever got her, and I highly recommend it.

My daughter in law and granddaughter are highly sensitive to motion sickness. The Relief Band has opened up all sorts of experiences to them. My daughter in law swears by them.

  6. I am surprised and impressed that for the most part this has been a respectful discussion. Like several other posters I had lap band surgery almost 6 years ago. I have cruised a number of times since the surgery. Like others I have struggled with waiters trying to push more food or being concerned when I didn’t eat much.

Where I live ( which is in a college town) it is not unusual to be allowed to order off the kids menu or get a kids price for a buffet. I eat less than my 9 yo granddaughter but honestly the kids menu choices are usually high fat or high carbs, not the best options.

I have successfully kept off 150 pounds for 8 years and would love to celebrate at a speciality restaurant but the thought of all that food is just overwhelming . I have to add that Disney is the most insensitive place.....they won’t even let you as an adult order off the kids menu. One waitress told me she could be fired if she let me do it.

By the time we were cleared to go off it was after 8 am and all aboard was 1:30 pm. The forts didn’t open up until 9 am and many stores between 9-10 am. So very compact day. I saw the times but when I booked I wasn’t aware of how limited those times really were.

  8. We were on the same cruise and agree with much of what was said. We are experienced cruisers but this was our first on Royal Caribbean since 2002. We were disappointed enough that we booked no future cruises which is unusual for us. On top of what has already been said I was expecting some kind of Olympic themed events even if FOTS didn’t have any coverage. What a great opportunity to highlight the diversity of staff and passengers during the week. One of my complaints is that there are no healthy snack options at night. I was told that the ship wants the focus to be on the Promenade so that’s why the Windjammer closes early compared to Celebrity. Pizza and sweet desserts are just not for everyone at night!

I has in a lounge chair right in front of the T-shirt Sale watching the event unfold. It was madness at its best and poorly planned.

In general it felt like too many activities were focused on selling something and so few were just for fun. We did enjoy most of the evening entertainment especially the comedian, ice show and the dance troupe. We were victims of the chair hogging patrol. In the 15 minutes I went down to wake my husband up my chairs were stripped and given away. I missed seeing the sticky note with a time on it when I went in to the Windjammer to get coffee and to the bathroom. The chair patrol insisted I hadn’t been there for 1 1/2 hours despite my sitting there reading, eating breakfast and watching hundreds of other chairs empty and not tagged. But the good news is that the supervisor found me new chairs in front of the T-shirt Sale so I had extra entertainment for the day.

Honestly how the chair situation was handled or mishandled is a part of why I didn’t book another cruise. This was the first time in 16 cruises I tried to spend two days up by the pool. It cured me!

And I agree about the Puerto Rico stop. It was one of the draws for us on this cruise and it was too short. Felt rushed and lacking sufficient time to do more than explore the two forts. All in all we are heading back to Celebrity [emoji924]
