  1. The Quest is a Royal Caribbean thing, not NCL.

They did have a sort of watered down version of The Quest on the Epic which had a team of Men vs a team of Women but The Quest it most definitely was not.

They definitely played The Quest on Epic in Sept 2014. It was held in Bliss.

  2. We will be going on the Epic in the second half of January, and I've been doing some research on the ship as well as on NCL in general as this is only our second NCL cruise. Our first NCL was on the Dawn, and I think the Epic is going to be a bit different from that experience.

Regarding the meals and shows, I know I can book those 90 days out, so I'm not too concerned about those right now.

    1. What about the Headliners comedy? I read something about getting tickets for that as well--can you book those 90 days out as well, or do you need to book those on the ship?

    2. I really hope to be able to see the Epic Beatles in the Cavern Club. Any tips to make sure this happens? Is this something to plan to do early in the cruise and how best can I plan to do this without it interfering with dinner or show plans?

    3. Is the Ice bar free, or how much does that cost to get in. And if there is a cost, is it worth it? I'm kind of curious to see it, but we're not cold weather people--we have an outside ice bar during our city's winter festival that I would never even think of going to because of the cold, and I'm not really that big of a drinker anyway (I might have a drink or two and no more during a cruise).

    4. I want to make sure we can do the Cirque show as well. Again, is it best to try to do this early on the week, or does it not really matter?

I'm more used to Carnival where you don't need to do so much pre-planning for a cruise...you don't have to really decide what you're going to do when until the actual moment.

Ice Bar is great. $20 each from memory and you get two vodka based cocktails for that. We love it and will definitely be paying it a visit again next week.

Never had problems getting to see any show on EPIC. We haven't even bothered trying to see Cirque as it's just not our thing.

  3. 1. Cagneys

    2. Le Bistro

    3. WAS Shanghai before it became included as part of the cruise price so I would say No 3 is now La Cucina.

We enjoy the ambience in Moderno but find it a bit rushed.

Looking forward to visiting all of the above next week, particularly following the refurb.

We used to enjoy the bar in Cagneys and now it has been relocated to where the salad bar used to be we are really looking forward to revisiting it. I have Cagneys booked three times next week !

  4. We enjoyed the Moderno, The Brazilian, and Taste. We could not get into the Italian La Cuchina, but didn't try until the last two nights. All the places we ate were just wonderful, did not enjoy room service as the portions were very small and limited. Enjoy your cruise and Have a Cocktail for me!!!

    Errr........Moderno IS The Brazillian Steakhous.

Taste is not a Speciality it is one of the Main Dining Rooms (Other is Manhattan Dining room).

  5. Some other ships, such as Harmony of the Seas missed Marseille completely this week and had longer stay in the previous port and then a sea day!

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Sounds sensible. I think I would favour that right at this time.

I used to chat to you on the Ocean Village forums. Was fun but I do prefer NCL.

  6. I wonder how this weeks cruisers got on in Marseilles.

I am concerned about Marseille. We set sail on Sunday 25th and I believe we are in port the day after the Quarter Final in Marseille. Depending who that match is between we may not even get off board.

Not interested in mingling with Russian yobs or England yobs for that matter.

  7. I don't like what that review says about the casino. One table

My experience of Thomson casinos is that there are plenty of players to keep a roulette table, blackjack table and 5 card poker table busy.

Hopefully the reviewer is just wrong. :(

ps - the deck plan on the Thomson site shows all 3 tables.

Theres a photo on the Facebook group that shows at least two tables.

  8. I am looking forward to my Discovery cruise in June. She is certainly a cut above the rest of the fleet as far as facilities are concerned and i think the large numbers of balconies will be popular.

I am growing tired with P&O and the last two cruises have been disappointing so I am trying Norwegian Epic this year. With over 100 single cabins and a dedicated lounge plus social hostess just for the solos it might just be what I seek.

I hope to put off any decisions for next year until after June but i might well be cruising with Thomson again :)

You are going to LOVE NCL EPIC. Fantastic ship. Amazing entertainment and food. Great fun and having visited the Studio cabins and lounge I can definitely recommend this to single travellers. Have a great time ! We are back on in June.

  9. Thanks,

We have a late flight, so was wondering how long we could loiter on board for.

Did you get much hassle when you walked into tangier?

Last time we were on EPIC and disembarked in Barcelona we didn't leave ship until about 10/10:15. We will be doing the same this time as staying in Barcelona for two nights after cruise.

If you carry off your own luggage you can leave it pretty late, alternatively just ask for latest check out tags from guest services.

  10. As another ex OV2 cruiser concur with most of what Stevio says. After OV2 departed our shores we had to look for a ship of the same/ similar ilk and not fancying the all singing all dancing dressing up to the eye balls thousands of passenger ships we chose a cruise on the Dream.Only having OV2 to compair her with intially didn,t like her but grew into it,s subsequently cruised on her 4/5 times and the Maj 2/3 times and booked Discovery for this year

Staff in the main excellent although noticed a difference on our last cruise, food decent/ good, entertainment in the main excellent, last but not least and a big part is the friendliness of fellow passenger

OV2 ,food for me way better as were the cabins but suppose difficult to compere as we always had a balcony on OV2 where on the Thomson ships it's always just been an outside cabin as the supplement for a balcony cabin was/ is way to much for us

    Thanks all for the replies.

It will be interesting to see how Discovery goes with Thomsons as it certainly looks to be quite different to the rest of the fleet with many more options by the looks of things.

Interesting that you suggest Thomson food is not as good as OV as I honestly felt the food (buffet) on OV2 was pretty dull to be honest so we ended up eating at La Luna most evenings and lunchtimes.

I look forward to reading the reviews about Discovery, in particular from those that are trying Thomson for the first time. Have to say that the itineraries certainly look far nicer than the ports on the mega ships.

  11. That is the menu for the noodle bar. The sit-down restaurant has a different menu (and in my experience they will not let you order from both menus, so be sure to tell them at the podium where you want to be seated).

I haven't tried everything on the two menus, but just about everything I have tried has been bad or very very bad. But I would still recommend for everyone to go there and check it out for themselves, as a change from the other dining venues.

It's one of our favourite restaurants onboard whereas I think the Tepanyaki is AWFUL
