  1. I began sailing with Cunard in 1993, and to my knowledge there has never been a crew member to be lost at sea. Is this true?

It is however, a very sad incident for everyone involved with the young man. We always hope for some kind of miracle in these situations, but it does not appear it will happen. I was hoping that some other ship in the area would have found him.

  2. Thank you so much everyone for your responses.

My wife and I admire Bermuda. We spent a week there at a cottage colony in Warwick Parish. We loved it.

We then returned there twice on the Queen Elizabeth 2.

We do not go there for the shopping. We have explored the island and many of its main attractions. Compared to many Caribbean Islands that we have cruised to over the years, Bermuda is a gem.

It was our friend's brother who recently visited Bermuda on the Breakaway and then told his sister how run downed Hamilton's Front Street and area has become and it was not worth a visit from King's Wharf.

From New York City, Bermuda is a wonderful destination for a week's cruise.

  3. If you are someone who has recently visited Bermuda on the Norwegian Breakaway, would you please inform me about shopping in Hamilton.

Friends of ours told us last night that Front Street in Hamilton is no longer a nice place to shop as it was in the past for cruise ship passengers. They told us that it is very commercial and rather run down looking.

My wife and I have been to Bermuda three times, the last time on the Queen Elizabeth 2. We always found Hamilton to be clean with many nice shops with imports from Ireland, England, Scotland, and other places.

Our friends told us that many cruise passengers stay on the ship when docked in Kings Wharf because of the poor quality of the shops in Hamilton.

Any information on this topic would be appreciated before we decide to take a cruise to Bermuda.

  4. The 2014 Cunard brochure deck plans show a glass floor on Deck Seven in Kings Court.

If you are new to the Queen Mary 2, you will not see the glass floor, because it was removed I think in 2006, to allow for more tables and chairs for dinning in Kings Court.

Evidently, changing the deck plans from the original is a big undertaking for brochure printing.

I have photos of the glass floor on Deck Seven from the Grand Lobby looking up and from Deck Seven on location.

  5. My wife and I are due to board tomorrow for a roundtrip crossing from Brooklyn.

I have a copy of the "Queen Mary 2 Technical Specification" information sheet available on the ship. There are "4x Wartsila Diesel Generators and 2x General Electric Gas Turbines" in the engine room.

If I remember correctly, the gas turbines are used when less power is needed to generate while in port or when moving slowly.

So, if one gas turbine was damaged, it does not appear it will affect the speed or operation of the ship until it is repaired.

Hopefully, the Queen Mary 2 will continue with her schedule tomorrow and repairs are made while it sails.
