No one is saying Fulton is the most secure, only that it is far more secure than the Whale Lot.

Fulton is completely enclosed, multi-story, manned 24 hours, and has 64 security cameras.  The Whale lot is open to any one who wants to walk across the street.  We parked in the Whale lot last March and had no issues.  We're parking at Fulton this year.

Here's more information from St. Greg, a prolific poster here on CC:

    Thank you kindly!

  2. Yup, I searched before posting. ;)

Sooooo hubby & I are fluorescent gingers. That’s our life. First time in Roatan. I love all the shady spots I’m seeing on LFK because that’s exactly what makes this sort of thing possible for us. That said, it’s not unheard of for us to get 3 or 4 hrs into a beach getaway day and be ready to go. Don’t worry about us wasting money, etc. We go into all these things fully aware of cost and how we roll. We don’t typically do the beach aaaaaall day long no matter how much shade is available or how nice the place is. My question is if we get ready to go a bit early will they take us back or do we have to wait for more people to be ready to go?

I’m also not a seafood person so I like that I can request no seafood on the fixed plate. Anyone have recent info for options and prices off a menu? Anything more than just pizza? Pictures on their website show a burger. Hmmmm....

I’ve seen lots of pics, some that were of the bathrooms. Didn’t see a freshwater shower to rinse. Are there freshwater showers on LFK? We would be pretty likely to rinse good & change into dry cloths for the return journey if we can.

    Thanks muchly in advance!

  3. Unlike land service, cruise ships use satellites which are much more expensive. Plus service is slow already as it is. Could you imagine how aweful it would be of every cruise passenger AND employee tried to get online? It would crash in a heartbeat. We had a party at our house for my teenage daughter. We have the fastest fiber optic service. It crashed after 40+ kids accessed the wifi with the password

But again, it’s not an impossible task to have unlimited streaming speed Internet available on a ship. It’s been done on numerous ships by Royal. It’s not free, you have to pay for it by the day. Obviously it isn’t a cost prohibitive thing to do considering they’ve installed the equipment on several ships now....ships that carry more passengers and crew than Disney’s....and it works. Very well.

  4. I just want to make sure that I understand - I could go by the drink station anytime and fill a cup with what I want and then go to my meal? Or would I be able to order a Diet Coke at breakfast, lunch and dinner? It would be great to not have to lug the drinks with us.

Like Moki’smommy said, anywhere fountain sodas are used it’s gonna be included (free). So at breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the main dining rooms if you want 15 glasses of coke they’ll happily bring it to you. You cannot order sodas from room service for free as they expect you to go get your own from the fountain. Room service you can order cans for a fee. Also, in the shows and night club venues if you order a soda it will come in a can for fee. However, if you’re going to a show you are fine to swing by the fountain & grab yourself a soda on the way. You can carry that into the theaters with you, no problem.

My boys always loved cherries for their cokes. Our servers would bring them each their own little boats of stem cherries. After a few nights we would arrive to our table with their usual glass of coke & boat of cherries at their seats waiting for them. They’d munch those cherries all meal long. Not sure how they didn’t get sick from it! LOL!

  5. Sorry, I have no desire for my cost of the cruise to be elevated to support someone else's need for internet access.

No need to elevate the price of the cruise. Royal offers unlimited streaming speed internet that cruisers purchase at an additional cost by the day. I’ve had it twice and it’s amazing. Seems like I paid like $80 or so to have it the full week both times. Maybe more. Was SO worth it. Just like actual adult beverage packages, if Disney would offer it I’d gladly give them my money for it. No need to elevate anyone else’s prices.

Although now that you mention it, I don’t drink soda so there’s that....

  6. You should research the Voom internet service that RCCL offers. The pricing is close to DCL’s pricing and it’s unlimited and fast enough that you can stream video, I loves it when I was on the Oasis. DCL should up theirs game in this area IMHO.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

AMEN. I’ve had Voom twice, happily paid for it, then I go back to Disney and it’s like I’m in the friggin dark ages. RCI is smart with that internet. And lumping it in as a combo with their drink packages...genius. When I looked around and saw people posting to social media, etc.....and I was posting to my social media live....many friends/family captivated by the content...that’s FREE advertising right there!

  7. I have an Aquavault that I bought for water park use and it’s served us well. I got it on sale from Zulilly like a year ago. Looks like this:

    https://theaquavault.com/collections/frontpage/products/aquavault-portable-outdoor-safe?variant=5874753220

One of my friends spotted a product like this, not sure if it’s Aquavault brand, at her Hallmark store over the weekend for $10. I had her grab me one.

    https://theaquavault.com/collections/frontpage/products/flexsafe

I like having these things. I do take my phone out on Castaway with me to take pics but also to FaceTime with my (grown) kids at home. Castaway utilizes the Bahamian cell network so I can use my AT&T international pass at just $10/day.

  8. I’ve chartered twice with Sunshine Power Boats out of Tortola. I don’t think they have a vessel that will hold 20 but the 35’ Contender does hold at least 10. I thinking they have more than 1 boat. I’ve had great experiences in the past and currently have them booked for September. Malcolm is a fantastic captain. Can’t wait to see him again.

    http://www.sunshinepowerboatsvi.com/

  9. It looks like the next ship scheduled for Tortola is Disney Fantasy July 17.

Disney just announced adjustments (SXM instead of Tortola) to the Eastern itineraries through the end of August.

Are ANY cruise lines back in Tortola yet? I’m still crossing my fingers for our Eastern sailing on 9/22. Not expecting it but hoping. I don’t think any of the ladies I’m cruising with have been to The Baths and they’re really wanting to see it.

  10. Ok' date=' I sort of got the wrong idea when you said you wanted the Christmas Market time. You are right that most river cruises have few or no kids and that most excursions that are included are not particularly kid oriented. ABD arranges intentionally kid oriented activities.[b'] I'm not sure what their boats are like, but I've read that they are "family oriented." I'd take that to mean bigger cabins[/b], at least some kid friendly meal options, etc. I didn't sense that the cruise I did was kid "unfriendly," just that there was no special accommodation for kids.

Disney didn't build their own river vessels. It's my understanding they're using AMAWaterways vessels. If there's a real demand and this product sells crazy good I'm sure Disney would build their own. But for now ABD is dipping their toes in with someone else's vessels. ;)

  11. Everyone needs to take a step back, way too much is going into this because of the misinterpretations and the titles being used for these threads. I agree enough is enough.

I thought I did pretty good with this title, actually. Believe it or not, I did put thought into it because I didn't want to come off looney or sensationalizing (I completely loathe the sensationalizing in news media nowadays). I could've gone with a lot worse for choice of words. But, I gave an indication of subject matter paired with "tad alarming". Didn't say "The sky is falling!" or "What the @&$!". Didn't even say "This is alarming". Nope. Went with "tad alarming" because, for me at least, it was/is.

I'm mostly sitting back and just reading what is contributed at this point. Further commentary seems pointless outside of updates or additional information pertaining to the subject matter. In this discussion as with on another forum it seems there's 2 very clear and definitive "sides" (if you will, for lack of a better term). There are those who read the accounts, believe them, and are concerned to varying degrees. Then, there's those on the other side of the aisle who either don't believe the accounts, want to explain away what's been recounted, discredit information, and/or minimize so that the discussion goes away entirely. Both sides seem bent on changing the perspective of the other. But here's the thing: Everyone is going to believe what they believe. Everyone will have their own opinions of what they've read. Everyone needs to do what is best for them. Doesn't matter which side any of us are on. The key is for the information to be out there and shared so each person can make informed decisions for themselves.

I'm not here to cause a fluff. Working hard at keeping myself in check quite a bit. Not here to sensationalize or make any of the recent safety/security information into something more than it is. Not here to tell anyone they're wrong about anything. Just want as much info as possible so I can make decisions accordingly.

Honestly, if someone wants the discussion to go away the best way to go about that is to not post on the thread & bump it back up on the page. Leave the thread alone so it'll fade away.

  12. We sailed Allure during the time she was sailing under reduced power the last time it had the pod issue. To avoid further drag that would slow the ship more, the stabilizers were not used during our sailing. We didn't make Nassau due to high seas and bad weather. No stabilizers. We were really rolling! My brother-in-law was quite sick from the motion....my family was thoroughly amused with it. I've been on 20 cruises. The Allure in stormy, higher seas was one of the most fun rides we ever had. I do love a lot of motion....I know, not the norm and not fun for most.

  13. Having been around for a few years, I can say that most people will go to impressive lengths to find fault with a person who posts anything negative about 'their' cruise line. It's like insulting a sports team on their home turf. Yes, people will make excuses for flaming OPs ("too many complaints, it was a rant, doom and gloom") but honestly only the most egregious (and very carefully worded) onboard problem will receive anything but pushback from people here.

No I don't know why people are so irrational in their defense of billion-dollar companies, but it's mind-boggling.

I read the first page of this thread earlier and this was EXACTLY my thought. Have not read the rest of the thread. My guess is a whole lot of people totally bashing the OP. That was the direction things were going on the first page anyway.

All part of the game, I suppose. A person simply cannot come on a brand-specific forum and utter any negativity without being pummeled by the masses. It's like that here. It's like that in other brand-specific forums. (..;)..)

Bottom line, the OP didn't have *his* ideal start to his cruise. Doesn't matter why, really. His feelings are absolutely valid regardless of my opinion or anyone else's. He's entitled to his own feelings. His feelings & opinions aren't required to be my feelings & opinions. If people don't like what he said, how hard is it to just move on?

  14. Well, there's now a mention of this issue in the US state Department's travel information/warnings. If you go to the Safety & Security tab HERE & scroll to the blurb about Alcohol:

Alcohol: There have been allegations that consumption of tainted or substandard alcohol has resulted in illness or blacking out. If you choose to drink alcohol, it is important to do so in moderation and to stop and seek medical attention if you begin to feel ill.

I still feel like the wording is very careful not to be too solid. I read some even more recent articles last night that said since the original article went mainstream the news agency that originally wrote it has been contacted by more than 3 dozen people with similar stories. I still cannot find additional info. Maybe this is the first time people have all started realizing it wasn't just some freak thing that happened to them. I don't know. Perhaps the government decided they'd better at least mention it in a warning of sorts.

I do know there are some things in life that the consequences are bad enough that you just don't take the chance to begin with. While most of these stories seem to point more at AI resorts that host vacationers on dedicated trips, there IS an Iberostar that sells day passes in Cozumel. There are many all-inclusive day resorts that something of this nature would impact their business model. I don't think I want to be the person who finds out the hard way. My friends I'm traveling with & I are looking at options for our Cozumel port day in October that don't include drinking alcohol. My husband & I have decided to push off the trip to Playa or Isla Mujeres we were planning for to swim with whale sharks in Sept 2018. We just don't feel like it'd be as enjoyable or relaxing if we were constantly looking over our shoulders.

I will continue to watch for more info. Information is always a good thing. Eventually I do want to swim with those whale sharks!

  15. We had a single solitary bed bug on a Disney ship in May. Literally, single solitary. We were in our room, luggage was delivered, I flopped the first suitcase open on the bed, and hubby spotted it crawling on the white bed cover. He grabbed it up with a tissue, had everyone leave the room, and called guest services. An officer arrived in minutes. You say "bed bug" and they don't play! All our belongings were taken for inspection & sterilization. Everything was sifted through. Every single item. The suitcase it came on was our garment bag. Contents were all dry cleaned and sterilized. Garment bag was heat treated to sterilize. We were moved to another room. No, the ship was not entirely sold out. The room we started in was inspected top to bottom. Pretty much disassembled. The head of hotels spoke with us the next day about it. It is believed the single bug that we found was a hitchhiker from the terminal. When we returned to port of embarkation we pulled everything out of our car & inspected every nook & cranny of everything there with our flashlights. Nothing. That confirms that single bug came from another bag in the terminal between being checked with the porters & when it was delivered to us. My brother worked for Terminix before he passed. A brother-in-law still works for them. We had knowledge before & solid advice during the entire episode onboard.

We are typically pretty good about inspecting. We had been pretty lax in recent years. Bet we aren't lax anymore! Scared the bejeezus out of me.

The cruise lines have a procedure to handle them if found. It took about 3 hours or so for our luggage to be inspected, etc. The stuff that needed treating (to be sure, nothing was found but to be sure) a bit longer. We needed our dinner clothes pretty quickly which the dry cleaners cranked out to us within an hour. I'm not entirely sure how long it takes to break down a room, inspect, & treat. I'd think half a day would seem reasonable but I'm not 100% sure. We changed rooms so I don't know that part.

  16. The percentage of unregulated alcohol cited is like 40-something percent. Reported by what looks like the equivalent of our IRS. I searched the name of the source and, honestly, it looks like just the government tax agency. So I'm not 100% sure what they would have to do with alcohol sales or regulation aside from taxed alcohol sales. It's not like a liquor board or ATF, etc. Untaxed "illegal" alcohol could simply be normal bottles not reported. Does that make sense? I've also been searching high & low for more info about any of this. I'm not turning up much of anything. Not saying it did or did not happen, just I cannot find anything.

I wish I could converse with some locals or people in the know. Get their take. It's not just about cruise excursion AI interests, hubby & I were planning to do an AI for our 25th anniversary next year.

I appreciate the input & thoughts of others. Again, I'm not the typically paranoid type. I'm usually more of a skeptic when it comes to journalism since we all know a sensational spin sells. ;)

  17. Just want to mention, I make an effort NOT to be one of those paranoid travelers. I've had wonderful days walking around Nassau. Been to Cozumel many times and seem some amazing places. Even ventured on my own away from the Costa Maya cruise port. I'm realistic. I don't go to sketchy places. I'm aware of my surroundings. But this, this is different. Definitely making me think about things.

  18. I hope this is okay to post. I'm kind of surprised it's not already posted. I saw the same article posted by a local news outlet different than this one. I guess if it's not okay it'll get taken down. Worth a shot because it's definitely worth discussing considering how popular all-inclusive day passes and beach clubs are. My friends & I were going to do an all-inclusive in Cozumel in October. I may rethink that. We're 3 ladies alone. Granted, 1 doesn't drink so she could always keep an eye on us but still. This is quite scary to think about particularly as a woman who cruises with friends without our fellas fairly frequently.

    http://www.jsonline.com/story/news/2017/07/20/all-inclusive-resorts-mexico-suspected-drugging-tourists/490429001/

I wonder if there's a way to test the drinks. What if you paid the all-inclusive but brought a bottle of liquor picked up on the way from the ship?

  19. In March I had the deviled eggs appetizer then a cheeseburger for lunch. Super excellent food. I only had a couple Bloody Mary's with my lunch. They were fantastic. I'd definitely return. We were the first in the day we went for lunch. The service was fine & friendly. Obviously a bit on the personal side since we were the only ines there for most of our meal. Enjoyable decor & atmosphere. You could kinda tell it was a fun nighttime spot although we never found time to stop in at night.
