  1. Hi, lots of great advise on this topic, only cruised solo 2 times, but it seems that I will be cruising solo much more. I am currently booked solo on Anthem in April.

I don't want the fact that I don't have anyone to  cruise with stop me from cruising.

    I love cruising.

  2. I feel the same way I also live on the east coast and I booked a 7 Bermuda cruise through NCL .. Im very shy also so this is going to def be a new experience for me . You can go to the ncl website and u can book a solo cabin on there its not hard . There's an option that allows to pick the number of passengers and when you choose 1 the option for a solo cabin becomes available to you.

Hi, I would recommend NCL they have great studio cabins and lounge where you can meet other solo cruisers. I was just on RC Anthem of the seas, although they hAve great studio cabins even one with a balcony they are scattered though the ship and don't seem to have many. On NCL they have to decks, where all studios are located together so you know everyone is a solo cruiser. And Bermuda is amazing!!

  3. I've seen videos and pictures about the solo cabins. But perhaps I'm picky but i gotta have my balcony. When I first went cruising I opted for a balcony. Yes people will argue that your not gonna be in the room alot but I like to have natural day light lol. However I do need to save up $$$ every now and then. Who knows I may end up trying a inside/solo cabin one day. The solo cabins do look very nice on NLC. So far every cruise I've been on has been with a balcony. I'd be willing to pay extra for it. Thats one thing I'd wish cruising companies would do is give more bargains for solos who want to cruise, especially if you want a balcony or ocean view.

*And I know Anthem of the Seas has the virtual balcony in the solo cabins but I still like the real thing lol

Hi, I love NCL and the studio cabins, but I do wish they would offer a few Studio cabins with balcony.

And Anthem of the Seas has the virtual balcony but also offer some studio with balcony I'm booked on one in October.

Will take photos and post. Or you can go to Youtube and search studio balcony cabins on Anthem of the Seas.

  4. :') :')terminally single lol. What cruise did you cruise on last year? If I were to cruise next year solo I would skip out of the MDR and just eat at the buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I feel like I may get the stare and the "oh are you alone" lol. I hope it would turn out ok if I were to cruise solo. I also feel like NCL is the line I would prefer to stick with one because I'm familiar and two they seem cater to more solo cruisers with meet-ups and such.

Hi, another single here, also cruised solo on breakaway love the studio cabins, I wish they would offer some studio balcony but that my wish. I agree if traveling solo NCL is the way to go, been on several cruise with NCL some solo others with family. I have to more booked for 2018.

  5. Hi all,

I'm looking for a little help with booking a DO cabin on deck 6. I have read in several reviews that the cabins are alternate layouts along each side with every other one having the bed by the balcony and the ones in between having the bed by the bathroom. I would really like to book a cabin with the bed by the bathroom but cannot seem to find out which numbers these cabins are. Can anyone who has been on Anthem or even Quantum on deck 6 six please let me know their room number and what layout they had. I would be really grateful.

    Thanks.[/quote

Hi everyone booked on Anthem Oct. 2017, anyone have pics for cabin 6250.

    Thank

    Margie

  6. So I was wondering If anyone has done a past Halloween on Royal Caribbean Anthem of the seas or ships like this one?

Can you tell me on these certain bigger ships how are the Halloween events and activities for adults? I know this is a larger ship that holds more people so didn't know if there would be costume contest and what not.

Hi, I will be joining you on this cruise, my birthday on the day we board and Halloween can't get any better!!

Please can anyone give us some info on what it's like on Anthem for Halloween?

Can we ware costumes? Do they have a party?

Can't wait to hear from all those fellow cruisers who are on Anthem of the seas enjoying their cruise.

    Thanks

    Margie

  7. Hello again. A couple weeks ago we booked a Western Caribbean cruise on the Allure of the Seas that we're going on in July for after my high school graduation in June.

I'm currently looking into shore excursions. At this point, I'm looking into Dunn's River Falls.

Our stop in Falmouth is from 7am to 4pm on day 5 of the itinerary.

From what I've read, Dunn's River Falls is maybe an hour away from Falmouth itself, but if we do it, I'm willing to bet that it'd be worth it.

My only concern - Jamaica probably isn't the safest place out there, so I'm not too sure about this.

Also when climbing the falls...I'm not sure how that would go without slipping or falling. I'm an 18 year old male, but I'm not exactly the strongest or most careful person out there.

Have any of you felt unsafe during the Dunn's River Falls excursion, or have you found it to be a great experience?

Hi, I have to say it's so worth it!! I did the climb for my 50th birthday cruise in 2008, just make sure you have water shoes it's required. We all start by holding hands as we start climbing. Guides help if you need it. Looking forward to my next trip in August with my 15 yr. old daughter. Hope I can still make the climb, :)Margie

  8. Also have "Italian night" red white green and "flower power" Think 70's/80's.

Wouldn't count on anything really being "adults only". It might be posted as such but MSC doesn't enforce rules very well.

Hi, for Italian night you mention red, green, and white, you have to dress in all 3 colors or just pick one? Look forward to white party!!

    Any other theme night?

    Thanks

    Margie

  9. Our cruise was Jan 10-22, 2016. This was our 7th week of cruises on Divina since 2013, so yes, I would say we like this cruise ship. We have cruised once in a regular cabin and the rest in the Yacht Club. Will be glad to answer or try to answer any questions you might have.

Thanks cruisergal1208, was looking into cabin with balcony I have an idea of what I want. Have to admit this will be my 9th cruise but first balcony, it's my daughters early 16th birthday gift, her Birthday is on Labor day and she goes back to school so decided early cruise.

Do they offer Birthday cakes, or decorate cabin if so how can I arrange it.

If you have any suggestions on balcony I will appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Margie

  10. On our most recent cruise the theme nights were: Costume (like masks, etc.), White, 70's-80's, Italian (green, white, red) This was for a 10 night cruise so might be different for a 7 day one. Don't worry if you don't want to dress for the theme as lots were not.

Hi cruisegal1208, when was our cruise? Planning to cruise on MSC Divina in August first time on this cruise line any suggestions? Did you like the cruise?

  11. Weather in Oct will be great.

Your going to have a AWESOME time! Enjoy every minute of it, because the time goes by way to fast.

Oh, one more thing, have FUN!

Hi I have been reading your review from your cruise and can't wait for my cruise September 18, you gave such a great review I felt I was traveling with you.

    I booked the same hotel.

Did you need avisa on any of the countries you visitex.

    Thanks

    Margie

  12. just off spirit and passports were taken off you on boarding and returned at the end of the cruise, no visa required for Turkey visit.

Thanks, I feel so much better knowing this, How about for flights? I will be flying into Bercelona, and return flight is from Venice going Spirit 9/18/15, any idea if I would need a Visa?

    Thanks

    Margie

  13. Background:

It was just my husband and I on this cruise to celebrate our 17th anniversary. We left our three boys – ages 8, 10, and 12 – home with their grandmothers for this trip, and although they love cruising and wanted to come with us (couldn’t because they were still in school), they had a great time with their grandmothers, who spoiled them rotten.

My name is Carolyn (39), dh’s name is Dan (38), and we live in Massachusetts. This was my 6th cruise, his 5th cruise, and our first cruise on NCL (the previous cruises have all been with Carnival). This was our first 12-day cruise. We have done three 7-day cruises, one 5-day cruise, and one 4-day cruise. We went back and forth for months, trying to decide between Alaska or the Mediterranean, but obviously, in the end, the Med won out.

We originally booked this cruise in October 2014 in a big inside cabin – #6535 – with no amenities. I was really looking forward to enjoying this spacious cabin, but in January (before final payment), I discovered that a different online travel agency, which we have used in the past, was offering an ocean view cabin with UBP, UDP, and OBC for less than what I was paying for the inside with no amenities, so I cancelled and rebooked under the new promo. Then, about 3 weeks before our cruise, I noticed that the prices had dropped significantly, presumably to fill the ship at the last minute, so we were able to upgrade to a balcony guarantee for the free and keep all of our amenities – YAY!! We were instantly assigned cabin #10632, which was quiet and conveniently located between the aft and mid-ship elevators.

We had an active roll call here on cruise critic of about 50 people. Most of us chatted for over 10 months as we planned our cruises, and many of us planned small group excursions together. I ended up keeping an updated list of people who were interested in a Meet & Greet, so it made sense for me to contact NCL to schedule it. We ended up getting a bunch of perks for organizing the M&G which we were not expecting, but greatly appreciated. They definitely enhanced our cruise experience. These perks will be discussed later in the review.

We debated whether to get euros before we left Boston or use ATMs once we got to Europe. In the end, we decided to use ATMs because the exchange rate was better than what we could find in the US. This worked really well for us.

    Our Itinerary:

May 14 – Flights to Europe

    May 15, 16, & 17 – Paris, France

    May 18 & 19 – Barcelona, Spain

    May 19 – Spirit embarkation

    May 20 – Toulon, France

    May 21 – Cinque Terre (from Florence/Pisa)

    May 22 – Rome, Italy

    May 23 – Naples, Italy

    May 24 – Sea Day

    May 25 – Mykonos, Greece

    May 26 – Istanbul, Turkey

    May 27 – Ephesus, Turkey

    May 28 – Athens, Greece

    May 29 – Sea Day

May 30 – Venice, Italy (overnight)

    May 31 – Spirit disembarkation

    May 31 – Venice, Italy

June 1 – Flights (and train) home

    Overall Impressions:

This was by far our BEST vacation – cruise or land-based – ever!!! It far exceeded our expectations, although admittedly, we spared no expense on our excursions. We did everything we wanted to do regardless of the cost. The perks we received for organizing the M&G had a lot to do with our enjoyment of this cruise, as did the beverage and dining packages and the length of the vacation.

There were a few things that didn’t go as planned, but they were so minor that they did not detract from the cruise in any way. I will mention them, however, when appropriate.

This review will not be a direct comparison between Carnival and Norwegian, although I will likely make a few comparisons and suggestions.

Between the two of us, we took thousands of pictures, some of which I will attempt to include in this review. I won’t specify how many thousands of pictures for fear of sounding like a freak, but trust me, we have a lot to choose from. ☺

This is my first time posting a review. I am a full-time grad student (after a mid-life career change), so I will post as quickly as time permits. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and I will try to answer them. I know how excited I was to read reviews of the Spirit before our cruise so I hope this will be helpful to those who are planning this cruise sometime in the future and will bring back fond memories for those who have been fortunate enough to sail this itinerary in the past.

Looking forward too reading this review will be going on this cruise September 18-30.

I just upgraded my studio to a family balcony for $95

I know I'm still allowed to attend the group gatherings

I'm curious if they'll give me key card access as I've heard both yes and no to this question

If they don't give me access to the studio lounge on my keycard can someone please prop the door open for me?
