  1. New announcement from RCCL: COVID-19 Health Screening and Boarding Protocols

Regardless of nationality, boarding will be denied to:

    1. Any person who has traveled from, to or through mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Europe (for list of European countries see https://presscenter.rclcorporate.com/press-release/80/schengen-area-countries/), Iran, or South Korea 15 days prior to embarkation.

This means, as we are from Belgium, we are no longer allowed to board if Azamara applies the same rule.

  2. Currently sailing on the Jewel and we must agree, MDR is going downhill fast. First of all, to give this some context, this is our 19th RC cruise. Yes we had may changes before and like we always say, it first started with the chocolates on our pillows that disappeared. But we are not complaining, we adapted and continued cruising with RC. But this time, our MDR experience stands out as a sore thumb. The waiters are running around as chickens without their heads on. They no longer make suggestions, they pass by sparingly and away is the personalized experience. The rush you to order everything upfront, even dessert since this year! The first night they mixed up our orders, the second night our food was cold and the third night, it was formal night, we even had to wait for half an hour and we did have reservations! So, as of day 4, we started going to the WJ. And up until now, we are satisfied but once again we needed to adapt. And for the first time in over 200+ cruise days, we eat our dinner in the WJ. RC, what are you guys up to? The MDR menus are so limited these days, with 4 dishes being the same each day, we are only left with 4 other choices. And that includes serving prime rib 4 different ways as 4 separate dishes. For us, the menu was the same for 4 days out of 7!!! Bread is no longer being served and put on the table in a bowl. Who knows how many other people touched it. Coffee is now being served in coffee mugs, where are the cups? It is not breakfast! I expect more from a restaurant, not? But maybe, I am just very picky. Let’s leave it at that for now. I am curious how others experience the MDR as of January of the year?

  3. Question for anyone who has sailed on the jewel before who did the "anytime dining", which I love! I got an email from RCL saying I can make reservations now for my anytime dining....my question: do we HAVE to make reservations now? Or can we make daily or just show up?

I usually reserve our dining for all days on a fixed time. You can always change it on board if needed.

  4. In Europe we always take the '... on your own'-excursions. These include the transportation from and to the interesting places.

Especially for Rome go for this one. Everything is within walking distance. You usually start at the Vatican. The lines at the Vatican are huge, both for the museum and the cathedral. You have to make a choice here, visit the Vatican or the rest of Rome? If it is your first time in Rome, I would suggest to just visit the Vatican from the outside and the big square. Then walk to the Forum Romanum past the castle and the bridge. Buy your combo-entrance tickets for the Forum and the Colosseum at the entrance of the Forum. The lines at the Colosseum can be huge but you can skip them if you already bought your tickets!!! So first visit the Forum Romanum, take the top exit and end up right at the Colosseum and visit it. Afterwards, go for a nice Italian lunch and continue to the Trevi fountain. Walk thru the small streets full of shops and street artist and continue your way to the Pantheon. Don't forget to get an real Italian ice cream and walk passed some other beautiful fountains and squares towards your bus.

I promise you, you will see more then on an organized tour. Have more time to spend at all the sites. This definitely is 'the' way to visit Rome!!!
