    Thank you.

So if I was going to cancel I should do it before final payment so I only  have a fcc for the deposit.

    Is that correct.

It depends on if you can afford to tie up the full amount.  I had made final payment on a cruise that was just cancelled.  I can now choose between 100% refund, 125% FCC or Lift and Shift.

If you cancel before the cruise is cancelled it depends of the terms you agreed to at the time of booking.  In my case if I had cancelled before Royal cancelled me I would have lost $100pp and would not receive the 25% FCC bonus.

I was on the Pearl TA this year. Plenty of issues with crew. But made the most out of it.

Bought a cruise next 2x certificate and booked the Escape for a TA this April. Already we go notice Barcelona port was changed to Terragona. Hope that’s all the switches. I wonder if 8 ports in 9 days is too much?

The Star TA changed Barcelona to Tarragona this year.  I researched the Port of Tarragona and thought we’d be fine.  It turned out there were no services at all.  Be aware there are 2 different Train stations there.    https://www.porttarragona.cat/en/ Almost no Taxi’s available.  People were lined up waiting for a very long time.  We chose to walk out of the Port.  We were told we could not do so.  There was no Port Shuttle available even though the Port of Tarragona website said there was one so be aware if you have a plane to catch.  The ship did offer airport transfers, probably be wise to take one.

  3. Hello everyone just checking back in. 5 years ago today was my last day we got rid of our home, autos, everything, no storage. Traveling the world.

Today is our five year anniversary of traveling the world. We are so excited about this milestone. We never knew we'd last so long and look forward to many years to come. Here's today's anniversary photo we took using the tripod and timer. Thanks for all the love from our reader/friends throughout the world:

Lol you guys were our inspiration. We’ve been on the road for a year now. We have our second year planned and I know we won’t be stopping there! Still reading your blog when I have internet. It’s funny you guys are in BA right now. We get there 10 days after you leave. Anyway enjoy Africa again. Happy New Year to yourself and Jessica.

  4. We want a tablet to use mostly for home communication and bill paying while on Insignia for part of the world cruise. Last year had a bit of a problem using the computer lab and would like to have the privacy of our own tablet. Any suggestions. Right now we have a windows desktop computer, I phone 6 (2) and are used to bill paying and other functions. Any of the tablets good enough to skype or face time. Specific to Insignia and Nautica -- the R ships.

Thanks so much. We don't leave until Jan 8 so have a little time to spend Christmas gift :D

I use an IPad Pro with the Pro’s magnetic keyboard. It works great! Throughout Europe this summer whenever we were in port we used a SIM card for our IPhone and were able to turn on a hotspot using the data from the Phone card. This really cuts down on internet costs. Just get your phone unlocked by your regular carrier before going. We have FaceTimed on the Ipad when on a Royal Caribbean internet connection. FaceTime uses a fair bit of data so it’s more about the internet connection quality/speed. We also regularly used FaceTime with the video off for phone calls over the internet. Since we are continually cruising, I do all bill payment, banking and stock trades on my Ipad. Another thing I like about the IPad is using ITunes to keep up to date on my TV shows and Movies. We also have a Netflix account that works great too. I use the Lightning to HDMI connector to watch the shows on the ships TV. I also drop my pics to the Ipad from my IPhone. So if you do buy one get the maximum storage space.

  5. Tom and Jessica were our inspiration. We met them about 3 years ago on a Transatlantic (Brilliance of the Seas). We are almost finished our first year now with next year planned out. We are doing a Panama Canal starting in January after a visit to our boys for Christmas. Then Island Princess from FLL to Buenos Aires. Staying for 12 days then jumping on the Emerald Princess going to Los Angeles. Then we fly to Tokyo to do China, Taiwan and full circumnavigation of Japan. We have about 8 days between a Transpacific to Vancouver (including Russia, more Japan and Alaska). Then we fly to Switzerland to move around Europe by train for 3 months before a Transatlantic back. We are managing to stay within budget pretty well. Thank god the stock market is doing well. We are travelling with 2 backpacks and 2 carry-ons. We found the cost of flying with suitcases was just a waste for us. So far this lifestyle is going well and we wouldn’t change a thing.

  6. We are booked on the jewel June 25, 2018. I am still curious why ncl's reservations site shows arriving into Tokyo April 28 and the next trip starts on May 26th (from Seattle). Any one have any updates on what ncl has planned?

I was just aboard the Spirit booking the April 1st and 16th cruises to Japan/China. I asked the Cruisenext person about the cruises after. She had an email with preliminary info. She had the Jewel doing Japan-Japan for Apr 29-May 6. Then a TP via Petropavlovsk and Seward ending Seattle May 6-26. She didn't have a release date. I can't wait as I'll be booking them. We were from Vancouver so I can visit my sons.

  7. We were just in Flam. All tickets were sold out for the Flambana train and we got off the ship pretty early. We ended up renting a Twizzy. It's a little electric car for 2. It was a lot of fun. Still would have liked to do the train, but there's always next time.

  8. Can anybody comment on an excursion to the Dead Sea either with a cruise ship or external tour company from Jerusalem?

I'm a bit confused on where the better area of the Dead Sea to go is - i don't want to have to walk 25 minutes from the 'beach' to the 'water' (if this can be avoided), which I'm understanding is the case in the northern parts?

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

We did a ship tour to the Dead Sea when our ship docked at Haifa in April. They took us to a Hotel there where there were changing facilities, lockers and showers. Walk from the hotel was about 3 minutes. Don't get the water in your eyes cause it stings! It was a really great unforgettable experience. We also did Masada on the 2nd day as it was Holy Week and Jerusalem would have been really busy. Masada was pretty good too but a long drive.

  9. Wonderful! What did you do with all your "stuff" when you sold your house?

Some went to our son who we helped buy his condo so he took living room furniture. He is also storing some things for us in his storage unit. Other son took our bedroom set as it was nicer than what he had. Sold my dining room table. Craigslisted and sold/gave away lots of other things. Lots of stuff accumulated in the garage went to the dump. The things we kept went into a 10x15 storage unit. If I had had more time I would have reduced the things we kept but everything came together in a really short space of time. (Sold the house while we were cruising in late October with a January 3 move out date). Our other time limiting factor was a voluntary redundancy and a fantastic cruise that was leaving Jan 16.

  10. So went ahead and did it starting last Jan 2017. We sold our house

And put our money in the bank invested with a monthly income. We've been aboard a ship since January. It's June now, with cruises booked up to Christmas, when we'll stop by and visit our boys before going again. Having a great time so far.

We want to do this too. Probably not forever on a cruise ship but certainly a year or two. But our plan is to take a TA to Europe...watching prices..if there is a good deal on a cruise in the med we'll take it...if not...stay 1 month in several of the major cities in Europe (train or Easy Jet to get there)..then take a Suez canal cruise to Dubai. Stay on the ship thru to Singpore/Perth/Sydney depending on the deal to be had. Spend several months in Australia staying in the major cities. (We will use Air BNB etc) Depending upon the time catch a repositioning to New Zealand...stay there a while. Then it's time for a Transpacific home. Stay home until the next TA...repeat with different destinations ie Northern Europe and Japan/China/Hong Kong etc. The plan is to fly as little as possible, watch our spending. We will not have a house waiting for us. Our money will be invested to help mitigate the costs. Yes we will sail on insides unless a really good deal is to be had. We've sailed in suites, balcony's and insides..you are only in your room when you sleep. When we are tired of being on the move...we'll rebuy a house/condo. I've been watching another couples travels that have done exactly this. They have a travel blog called worldwidewaftage. Very inspiring couple.

  11. This cruise should really have been cancelled. Feel sorry for all those who didn't cancel and take the refund. Hope they haven't run out of alcohol! The news is all over it now - PR nightmare. I predict some really good prices next summer.

Sadly there was no refund before the cruise began. It was a future cruise credit which is not the same thing.

  12. Rick Steves. He targets cruise passengers and DIY. He has audio tours to download to ipod/mp3 on his website (free) and you can print out maps to go with. We used them in Florence, Venice, Pompeii, Rome...EM

Rick Steves books for cruisers are great! Also Google Toms port guides online and free!

  13. I have a cruise booked out of Seattle for Alaska. The primary reason the port and cruise was chosen is to visit Seattle a couple days post cruise. I've always wanted to see Pike's Place Market, Space Needle, and ???

I have found a couple of other cruises that look better but leave Vancouver.

Anyone have experience flying into Vancouver and flying out of Seattle on the return? Best options for getting between Vancouver and Seattle.

We have used the Bolt Bus a couple of times. Cost was about $24 cdn and it drops you at or leaves from the Main Street sky train station. There is also Quickshuttle which costs about $50. It has more drop off and pickup points. The Bolt bus drops off at King St staton in Seattle, which is easy walking distance to Pike place market. There is also Amtrak service from Vancouver to Seattle. I wouldn't bother flying from Seattle to Vancouver it wouldn't be much faster what with security and waiting for your baggage in my opinion.

  14. Hi,

Me and the other half are looking to go on independence of the sea but are torn between 2 itineraries the one on June 29th 2017 going to Stavanger, Norway Kristiansand, Norway Oslo, Norway Copenhagen, Denmark Skagen, Denmar

    or

go on the July 7th 2017 cruise going to Bruges Belgium, Oslo Norway, Hamburg Germany, Paris/Normandy (Le Havre), France

All ports will be new to us and cruise price at the moment is nearly identical so we just don't know which itinerary would be better any advice would be great?

Both are great itineraries but Paris....

  15. My theory is a dry dock will occur between the cruise going out on the 22nd Dec and the 5th Jan. Yesterday for the first time a new 7 day itinerary was added. Bangkok to Hong Kong leaving 9th Jan. Too much of a coincidence. Where? Unsure if there's dry dock facilities in Bangkok or whether it will be done in Singapore. If Bangkok maybe both the next two cruises will be shortened to allow for time in dry dock. This is just me guessing.

Norwegian also has listed a new 4 day itinerary before that new 7 day.
