  1. Thanks for all the responses.

I prefer to book online so that I can control the booking completely myself. I have found that I really don't like having to wait sometimes days for a response from a TA. They don't work weekends, they don't work at midnight, they put you in a hold queue and they have many other clients to deal with. For me, it's not worth the hassle to get a few extra perks. When I want something done, I want it done immediately [emoji4]

Having said that, I did make my three cabin booking online through the warehouse club I am a member of and received cabin credit for each cabin (that still counts as a TA right? So thanks for the reminders about TA's if you meant online ones). The price I paid is near the lowest there has been for this particular sailing (June 18 Royal Princess UK cruise) according to [emoji568] [emoji226] website that tracks such things. Of course, I'm sure others may have got a better deal through their TA but I'm happy with a very "low" price and $665 cabin credit (total).

Later, I called (reluctantly [emoji6]) Princess and had them link the bookings.

We can't wait for this first foray into Princess from Celebrity. (Nothing against them at all). Did it as a last minute thing as I couldn't find a rental property we could agree on and this cruise lined up with our existing flights perfectly.

  2. +1 re Villefranche, beautiful restaurants, fascinating Chapel by Cocteau and all very walkable! BTW very interesting thread. Thanks for posting.

+1 more for Villefranche but for different reasons [emoji846]

Last summer we stopped there on the Reflection. As we sailed into the bay I saw a path along the right hand shore about 20/30 meters above the water.

Takes a little perseverance to find the start (along the top of the bay, through very nice neighborhood, through a short alley) but it is an absolutely beautiful hike to Cap Ferrat (sp) with great views all the way to the end of the peninsula. It was a 6 mile hike round trip from the tender dock.

After that we had a fantastic view as we ate lunch in the Porch. One of our favorite days [emoji4]

  3. Hi,

I'm trying to book our first Princess cruise for 6 family members but for the life of me I cannot seem to enter how many cabins I need. Any pointers from experienced Princess bookers would be welcome (it's amazingly straightforward on the Celebrity website....).

    Thanks

  4. We just sat down at Lawn Club for lunch. The weather today is perfect. Literally perfect. 80 degrees. A nice breeze. Plenty of sun. A bit windy on 15 but that makes it fun. Here is the menu from Lawn Club Lunch.

    Hi Paul,

I had lunch there a couple of weeks ago and despite having a Premium drink package was charged for the drink listed at the bottom of the menu. Wondered if that was correct but ended up paying it. Enjoy your lunch...I did mine [emoji3]

You will notice I haven’t mentioned Barbados....for you this could be a good beach stop. For us, after previously visiting, it was our ‘stay on ship day’! We love having at least one day per Caribbean cruise where we enjoy poolside on a near empty ship!

My family and I enjoyed our non-tour visit to Barbados (walk to town, fish market, eating & drinking local food and beer, cricket stadium & museum) so much that we are considering a future land based extended vacation in Barbados.

In your opinion is that something we should reconsider given your second(?) visit was to stay on the ship?

  6. I was on the same cruise. Your photography skills are excellent. I saw many of those same sights including the sunrise on day 10. I see from your profile that you also like birdwatching. On this trip I picked up two new lifers: brown booby and white-tailed tropicbird. Both on sea days. Hope you picked up some lifers too [emoji211][emoji846].

In st Lucia were you on a Cosol tour?

Can't wait to read the rest of your review.

  7.

My wife and I also saw the Le Petite Chef dining experience on QSINE.

We had no idea what this was, and to be honest if we knew we probably wouldn’t have booked it. We are not into gimmicks. ....This one might be among our favorite.

    Highly recommend.

Agreed. I think if you approach this experience open to enjoying it then you most likely will do so. We enjoyed everything about it and so did other people we spoke with afterwards.

    It was great.

  8. Glad we weren’t the only 60 something gigglers!

We chuckled from start to finish.....

My wife and daughter and I were also at last nights Petit Chef dinner (6pm sitting). We all thought it was a fantastic experience and would be worth the expected $55 cost when rolled out. It was $25 last night. We thought the applause after each video was warranted (although that’s not something I would think to do for dinner, this was an experience).

I do have a couple of photos but don’t want to spoil it for anyone.

I didn’t think the food would be as good as luminae but it was excellent.

Highly recommended from me as well as wife and daughter. I hope you give it a try.

  9. I just got back from at week at the Loews Royal Pacific. I didn't (pay to) go to any of the theme parks. (A conference I was at had a free evening at Universal Studios). Enjoyed the hotel a lot and walked/boated to Universal City Walk. The restaurants at the hotel were excellent and I tried Tchoup Chop, Jakes bar, sushi place, island dining room. We hiked local trails, segwayed, swam etc. I also paid what I think was my highest amount for a drink at a pool...my wife and I picked up a taste for pina coladas when on our cruise in march...so I ordered two at $15 each, plus $3 for shots of dark rum on top, plus tax, plus tip....$45 !!!

Had a great time and I would do it again.

  10. My wife and I went to Sushi on 5 twice on our recent Reflection cruise. My wife was not a big Sushi fan but enjoyed both meals very much. I particularly liked the Kobe slider. The cocktails and saki were great too. Will definitely visit again on our upcoming Reflection Med cruise. Lots of people in the place on both visits. People constantly coming in too. Seemed popular to me.

  11. I too have booked this package for our upcoming EU Reflection cruise. I thought it was a great deal so I ordered thinking the Dom would be a vintage. However, on our spring Reflection cruise I spotted a Dom non-vintage for about $60 in the duty free (or another wine seller onboard). Then a few days ago I saw the same in a local supermarket also for $60. I expect to get a non-vintage now. It is still a well priced package though.

I hope it goes to plan for you.

  12. Mmm. My daughter and I will be on Equinox (Concierge Class) in a couple of months, and we like nice cheeses. So can we get a small artisan cheese plate from room service included, or will that be $15?

Artisan cheese plate was $15 in a suite on Reflection two weeks ago. I would expect it's the same in Concierge class.

  13. Last week on the Reflection we ordered room service using the menu on tv. Two of the dishes we ordered were the regular cheese plate for no charge and the artisan cheese plate for $15. Both were the same size but contained different cheeses. The $15 artisan cheese plate was worth it to us. There was no delivery charge ... the order was at 2:30pm.

  14. Regarding the departing from the US and not being able to drink, this must be dependent on the cruise line. I have been on both carnival and Norwegian, and each time 18 year olds were allowed to drink once we got one to sea. Say it is illegal all you want, but I have seen it on 4 of my cruises. For some reason though, they could only get beer and wine- or so it seemed.

I think you are correct. The cruise lines impose their own rules for 18+ when in International waters regardless of the country of departure. The laws of the country whose waters the ship is in apply when not in international waters. I read that there are only 12 countries with a minimum drinking age of 21 with the USA being one.

  15. We took our 18 year old son on a Reflection Med cruise last summer. He had a great time after meeting others of his age group. They spent their late evenings in the Sky Lounge where there was dancing with a dj. He told me that next time he would find friends as soon as possible rather than waiting a couple of days. Since there are three of you I'm sure you will be able to get things rolling quickly as others will likely want to join your group.

There were plenty of people in my sons age group on board for a June cruise and since you are in July I would expect there to be more as EU countries generally end school at the start of July.

We also allowed our son to drink and he was very happy about that. We were in a suite so he had access to drinks from Michaels club but did not have an alcohol package which I think we would get for him next time. On one sea day we saw him and some friends, along with some older adults, all in a hot tub by the pool enjoying the music and a beverage. When onshore he was also allowed to drink which made lunches in the various restaurants pleasant too.

Be respectful of others' vacations and I'm sure you'll have great cruise.

  16. Don't have the menu but on Celebrity In all cabins you may order from the Main Dining Room menu for lunch and dinner.

On our recent Reflection cruise I didn't see how to order from the MDR menu as they didn't appear on the room service menu on the TV. Is it possible to order MDR menu items only during the lunch or dinner service times? How would I get a menu in my cabin? Thanks

  17. Aspirin ... crack?

Try holding your meal down with that image in four metre swells!

(Thats 16ft swells for the intellectually challenged folk of a certain sub-incontinent)

4 meters does not equal 16ft. It's 13ft 5 inches. Not sure you should be calling anyone intellectually challenged let alone part of the world.

  18. We will likely try Sushi on 5 and/or Murano on our spring Reflection sailing.

We did try Tuscan Grill for lunch on our summer EU Reflection cruise. We did not like that at all. All four of us were disappointed. Service was good but the food was way below what we thought it should be. I remember that I had ravioli and thought it was very poor. We stuck to the awesome Luminae after that.

Anyway, that was the only disappointing thing of the whole fantastic trip. Can't wait for our three booked X cruises [emoji106]

  19. My wife, son & daughter took this cruise in June. We dined in Luminae each evening bar one when we went to the Oceanview Cafe. I didn't notice any guests in Luminae wearing tuxedos or suits on the EC nights and no fancy gowns either. Everybody looked stylish though.

There were people wearing suits and maybe the odd tux lining up to get in the MDR. The females looked great whatever they were wearing :-)

If you are going on this cruise I will say that it was the best vacation we have been on and I think you will have a great time.
