  1. Well, that was an interesting discussion (argument?). Here's my take on it. We'll sit with 'strangers' in a group at brunch or lunch in the MDR. Always enjoy the conversation. And love getting to know folks on smaller sailing ships where the pax number is in the 100 range. But on a large cruise ship our preference it to eat dinner only as a family or couple depending on how we're traveling. Guess that's just our comfort zone. Not like it matters to anyone else. Have a great day.

This is me too. I like chatting with others over breakfast or lunch. For dinner, I really want just my mom and I.

  2. Do the math: A shot &1/2 is about $7 after gratuity, Even at the outrageous price of $80 for a liter (vodka), you're only paying about $4.00 per 1.5 shot. , saving you half (approx).

Of course, according to CCL rules, you are only to imbibe said liqueur in your cabin! ;p

Only in your cabin??? They enforce this?

  3. Depends on the ship and crowd. Believe it or not. We were on the Splendor NYE cruise this December. Boarded as fttf. Went to room to but carry on away. Get the wheelchaiur that was delivered. Around 6pm. I remembered to go book it as I had forgot.

Mom and I were 1 and 2. On the 2nd tour as it was later for us.

Great day it was. Saw the bridge with ample time (30 min) including a lengthy Q&A with captain. Group and Individual pics. Saw crew areas on the bow and chow hall. Mourge. Jail/Brig. Behind the stage and dressing room. Galley. (In action) was around 1130 at that time. Brunch was in service. Did a fruit carving demo. One young woman was upset that mushroom soup was not on any menu for 7 days and asked why. Chef said he didn't know what menus were rotated but OFFERED to make a batch for her and the family of 8 she had. He had a notepad wrote it down and table number. Saw her in the casino and chef did follow thru. We Saw I95. The walkway the length of the ship. The crew learning area with computers for language skills. Saw 2 meat freezers and fridges. Beverage cooler and a Q&A with the manager. Laubdry room and crew work out gym. As well as a lengthy in depth exploration of the Engine Control Room with the Chief Engineer. Ended with a stop upstairs for a demo and soap carving at the steakhouse before u got a free drink and a backpack and hat and fill out your fast survey.

You did the tour with one of you needing a wheelchair? I've always read there are tight stairways to navigate as part of these tours.

  4. I'm wanting to do whatever is most cost effective. I tried searching but I'm not finding anything. I see I can buy a bottle of Absolut Vanilla Vodka for $85 in the fun shop. But how much could a single shot for at a ship bar.

I'm a very light drinker (probably 4-5 total over all 7 days). And my mom doesn't drink more than 2 drinks in the cruise, so Cheers is out. We do have bottomless bubbles already.

But if the shots would cost me as much or more than the bottle, especially with whatever the auto-gratuity is, then I want to pay for the over-priced bottle.

  5. Usually you get those calls when they have a person looking to book your category cabin. Sometimes it's as simple as a family of 4 needing the extra beds that might in the cabin you and hubby got. I was told that final head counts are done about 10 days before sail date and matched to specific cabins and sometimes they find 3 passengers booked in a cabin for 2 so they have to start moving people around. Our last cruise was "oversold" which only means they have more than the typical capacity count of 2 per cabin so the juggling around sometimes is more complex. We had a guarantee cabin and was morning of cruise before we had an assigned cabin due to that very issue.

That would freak me out to not have a cabin assigned until then. My mom's need for an accessible and the total uncertainty is why I've never booked a guarantee though. Wish I could though since they are always so much cheaper.

  6. I wished I'd know that even if you book an excursion through Carnival they basically dump you off at port an expect you to figure out how to get to where you are going. I still hate that part even though I've been able to figure it out each time. It is stressful not knowing what is going on and if you are in the right place.

Um. I've only sailed with RCI before. Is this different with CCL? I mean yes I've had to find the right sign before. But I've never felt I had to just find my own way????

Loving your review so far! And no worries for those you've lost, since you're also picking up othes like me. :)

I've only been a loyal to Royal girl so far, since my handicapped mom had a bad experience on her first carnival cruise. However, this year we have some budget constraints and Carnival may be our only option. With all the wonderful pictures, you're review is really helping me figure ways we would enjoy it if the Breeze does end up as our best option.

  8. Very often, elevators arrive already crowded or there is a crowd of people waiting for one. When cruising with my dad, who was an amputee and used his scooter all the time, we would push both the up and down buttons. Most of the time, people were all traveling in one direction. We found that elevators going in the opposite direction of the human wave would open and close with no one getting on. We would get on those elevators and make a round trip.

This is key for wheelchairs or scooters. Go down to go up or up to go down.
