Were there long lines at pool bars for drinks?

I was also on this cruise. No, the lines were not long. There were servers taking orders as well. On the top pool decks they even had a rolling bar with beer. Pretty cool and totally opposite of what I had heard. I'll definitely cruise MSC again.

  2. We live on Long Island and car service is less expensive than parking at the cruise terminal, but not by much. We live around 60 miles away.  We decided to drive around 40 miles and park at a family members house and they will drive us and pick us up.

That is the purpose of muster,,, to teach you where to go in the case of an emergency. Not on the deck where the lifeboats are stowed. Not on deck where the lifeboats are launched (in most cases), in a place where they can account for guests and group people to sit, non-socially distant, to get into a lifeboat.

Surviving a jump from an upper deck balcony is low. And survival in the water after a jump is even lower,,,, especially on new ships where there are no lifejackets in the room. All of the life jackets are at the muster station.

When did they remove life jackets from the rooms? They have always been either under the bed or in a closet AND in the muster stations. Not having them in the room is disconcerting. 😯

Yeah...but that's all cosmetic.  Covid is airborne and the virus doesn't live long on surfaces.  To be safe, you need to distance and wear masks.

According to the WHO, the virus can live on plastic and stainless steel for up to 3 days. Isn't that what slot machines are made from?

The most important thing to know about coronavirus on surfaces is that they can easily be cleaned with common household disinfectants that will kill the virus. Studies have shown that the COVID-19 virus can survive for up to 72 hours on plastic and stainless steel, less than 4 hours on copper and less than 24 hours on cardboard."

  5. A friend of ours is a crewmember on the Jewel. She posted this yesterday on another site.

"I am presently a crew member onboard the NCL Jewel. I have been following the News in my country about the Covid19. It saddens me to listen some persons making it seems like seafarers are being treated badly by the cruise companies. I can't  speak for everyone but let my pictures tell you if this looks like bad treatments. Picture taken from my balcony stateroom aboard the NCL Jewel.  Norwegian Cruise Line has done their best in trying to get as much of their employees safely back to their respective countries of origin. However, many countries have travel restrictions and airport closure at this time resulting in us being out here. We are NOT in a desperate situation by any means at this time. Norwegian has adopted social distancing practices with all crew having their own rooms and bathrooms. We have food, water and other necessities that we need on a daily basis. We are happy with this arrangement and are safe. We are indeed blessed to have no cases of covid-19 onboard the Jewel. To be honest I prefer to stay onboard until this dies down. The fear I have about travelling now is real. P.S..I DO MISS MY CHILDREN

  6. This is the email I received:

    Dear Valued Travel Partner,

As always, we want to keep you informed of the latest happenings at Norwegian Cruise Line, especially during times such as these when we are faced with an incredibly fluid climate.  We truly appreciate your continued efforts and partnership and realize this has been a challenging situation.  Today we are announcing our new Peace of Mind policy, providing reassurance to your clients to book their vacation with confidence.

We are making temporary changes to our standard cancellation policy. This supersedes all previously announced changes and standard deposit and final payment schedules now apply. As this is a fluid situation, any amendments or reversals of these policies will be communicated to you as they occur.

For all new and existing individual and group bookings that embark from March 10, 2020 through and including September 30, 2020:

    • Guests can cancel up until 48 hours prior to vacation start date.  Cancelled reservations that occur prior to 48 hours to vacation date will receive a 100% future cruise credit (FCC) to be used for ANY Norwegian sailing embarking on or before December 31, 2022.
      • Vacation start date includes any pre-hotel or Cruisetour packages booked through Norwegian.
      • FCC will include all components of the reservation that have been paid, including but not limited to: shore excursions, beverage and dining packages (including associated gratuities), service charges and air or transfers pre purchased through Norwegian.
        • Note any insurance purchased on existing bookings will not be included in the FCC amount

    • In the spirit of PARTNERS FIRST, ensuring you receive your commission is paramount to us:
      • All paid commissions are protected and will not be recalled.
      • During this temporary policy change period, commissions that have not yet been paid on voyages through September 30, 2020 will now be paid at time of sailing.
      • Commission on new bookings where the FCC is applied will be paid in full, as per our standard policy.
We expect call volumes to increase during this time and greatly appreciate your patience and understanding.  We are working to implement system updates and expect these to be in place starting March 11, 2020.  In order to best serve you, if your clients still wish to cancel, please contact us starting March 11th at 1-800-327-7030.

We realize there may be many questions, so we are working on providing detailed FAQ’s, which will be sent as soon as possible.

We understand you are likely inundated with various policy and protocol changes from all supplier partners and it remains challenging to keep up with the various nuances.  For our current protocols, we always recommend visiting NCL.com under our Travel Alert section. You can also click here for the most recent communication being sent to booked guests.  We continue to monitor if itinerary adjustments need to be made and will communicate those to any affected guests and travel partners.

While we are definitely operating under unique circumstances, it’s important to remember the travel industry and our business of cruising is one of the most resilient.  We recognize your clients may be hesitant to plan or confirm their vacation, but we encourage them to remain educated on the stringent protocols we have put in place and ask your support in reminding them.

Having you as a trusted advisor and advocate during this time means more than most probably realize.  You continue to help educate your clients on fact versus fiction.  You remain calm.  You provide sound and unbiased counsel based on their individual circumstances.  And you share the love for and communicate the value of not just travel experiences, but travel aboard a Norwegian Cruise Line ship.

Thank you again for your patience, understanding and partnership as we manage this ever-evolving situation. We are in this together and alongside you.

We appreciate you today and always,

    Warmest regards,

  7. Last time we cruised from NYC I had 24 bottles of Wal-Mart branded 5 hour energy type drinks in our carry on bags. I told the screener about them and was told they are considered vitamins or another health related item and not a prohibited drink item. Best bet is to be honest with them and not try to sneak it past them.

  8. Our cruise is in August and GSC cabanas are available to book now along with only 5 other shore excursions at GSC. More should be showing soon I hope. There's only 1 for Port Canaveral and that's the transfer to Cocoa Beach. 🙄 There are over 25 available for Nassau.

  9. What a great review as usual! I haven't been on cruise critic in quite a while so I was pleasantly surprised to find this. I've got a bunch of your reviews to catch up on.

I just booked the Pearl for August. I think it may have been updated since your last cruise on her. I haven't been on one of the smaller ships since 2012ish, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Thank you for taking the time to post. Hope you are feeling all better soon.

Sorry for your family challenges, that disease is difficult on all involved.

My suggestion is to sail from Florida and have a full Caribbean cruise for similar budget including the cost of flights. $2500 is a sizable enough budget for cruising in an inside cabin. Check the Lattitudes offers, all of your perks shoul be applicable on those.

Of the 3 options you've listed I vote for the Pearl. I was on her for Christmas in 2018.

Thank you. I'm going to pick the Pearl. 😁

JoAnn, I was wondering why I haven't seen a review from you in awhile. I remember when your husband was in the room so much on that last cruise and then he lost all of that weight so quickly. I am so sorry to hear what your family is going through. It does sound like you and Melissa need a break together. Please know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers ❤

Now for your options...4 nights does not seem long enough. By the time you get around taking your mind off of your husband, you'll be ported back in NY again. Also, although the Encore looks beautiful, there us a lot less public space and more that you have to pay for - like the laser tag angle go karts. While I'm they're fun, I would also guess that getting everyone a chance in just 4 days is impossible.

Next up, the Breakaway. Well, you know the ship, so it would be like coming home. I've always wanted to do Canada and New England, but being from NY myself, I gravitate towards the Caribbean just because I want the warmer weather. Canada just seems cold, but I'm probably exaggerating. I would look at the tours and see what is offered h at Melissa would be interested in. I've noticed lots of older people takes these types of cruises.

And The Pearl...To be honest, that would very my choice. I love the Jewel class. Not super huge, a nice pool deck, and a good variety of entertainment that you don't have to sign up for months in advance. Also, my inside on The Escape was the smallest of all if my insides. The jewel class insides were much roomier. Then there's the whole warm Caribbean factor that I mentioned before.

No matter what you choose, I wish you a wonderful trip and a good respite for you and Melissa. You do need this trip, and I wish you only the best. Thank you for coming back to CC and filling us in on your husband. As I said, I am thinking of you all.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I tend to agree. Melissa also agrees and thinks we should Canada and New England on the Breakaway and then hop on the Encore to Bermuda.😁 If only we could afford that! Lol
