  1. I disagree...we've stayed on the coveted hump balconies, but my absolute favorite was the full aft balcony on FOS, we were the one not quite on the corner but next door to it...and it was quiet and since we were right under the windjammer, no one could look down onto our balcony, but we could look down on everyone else...it was great! and HUGE!!!

cabin selection is such a personal thing...On Allure the closer you are to elevators the better, other than that, go for where ever makes YOU happy!!! If you go Aft, go high or forget it...too much metal infrastructure to have to look through if you are on lower decks, and people can look down onto your balcony...look at the ship deck plans very carefully!!

  2. Have always pre-paid gratuities so no biggie for us...just glad we've already pre-paid for upcoming cruise, so we wont be 'upcharged' per an email they sent us.

Although we usually tip a little extra to our room steward the first day, especially if they'd introduce themselves and we ask them to keep our ice bucket stocked for us, as they usually do without asking anyway...but hand them a little at the beginning, we always have towel animals every night, regardless and we can tell they go out of their way to keep us 'happy'...and we usually slip them a little extra at weeks end, so it ends up about the same in the end.

  3. Am I the only one that has to take the seasick medicine once I'm off of the boat? I have never had any issues while at sea, but the week after I'm back on terra-firma I HAVE to take bonine or something as I am nauseous and wobbling non-stop. DW is just the opposite - bonine on the ship due to issues, but fine once on land. Just wondered if this happens to anyone else?

CKROBIN - thanks for your reply. Hope you have a fantastic time. Not the same as sailing myself, but this sure does help with the mid-winter blues until sail in late April! All my best~

Happens to me every time, even on a house boat on the lake, fine when I'm on water, but as soon as I'm on solid ground again...woa...the head, she spins...going to try dramamine AFTER the cruise this time...lol

  4. I can say I am a review snob/or maybe I don't like to have to 'read' everyone elses silly family stories on a review...however I've really enjoyed hearing about yours. I usually go for the one's full of pictures [hence, no reading required]. Your's sparked my interest from the first post, and I read it all in one seating. You sound like someone I could hang out with and laugh at each other all day. I have countless "Moron moments" everyday and while no parent is perfect, we all do our best and hope the outcome is good [our kids don't end up in jail or worse]. You sound like a fantastic mom, and I can't imagine taking three 'kids' on a cruise alone.

Looking forward to hearing more...and if you ever get the picture thing worked out...even better! LOL [ps. I use photobucket...a tip from I believe Trainman...who taught me how to post my photos here] there's a free version or the pro package you pay for. Hint, once you post them here, don't go to photobucket and 'rearrange or organize" your photo albums it causes CC to loose the link to your pics...and thus no pics show up in your reviews...THAT's my "moron moment" for ya.;)

  5. If I win the lottery, I'm going in for drydock and my aft is going to be re-fitted. :)

    RITFLMAO!!!!!

At work [on lunch] and can't put link to pics here. Will try to remember to do that when I get home...have some great pics of 1702 on Freedom last fall. or you can look them up on photobucket...just look for the album of "Sunebeach".

  6. WOW!!! there are some great photographers out there...especially the night pics that were so clear. I have camera envy. And I think I gained 10 pounds just looking at the pastry pics!

to the OP, thanks for getting this started! This is getting me so pumped for our cruise [that isn't scheduled until april 2013!!!:(] But I'll have Allure to look forward to until then...:rolleyes:Thanks!!!

  7. DH and I had 1702 last fall...LOVED that room...want to book it the next time we're on her. Great view, no one looking down onto our balcony [as we were right under the WJ, and no noise] our room was almost as big as some of the JS's we saw...and twice the balcony as JS's on the sides of the ship...couldn't have asked for better! You'll love the aft, DH talked me into trying it, would do an aft again in a heart beat...very quiet back there really, no traffic in the halls unless it's other aft passengers.

  8. Thank you for all of your tips. We do not have a hotel booked yet since we are so far out from the cruise :(, but I am interested in the view from the bridge. If we are not staying near the bridge is public transportation or a cab a good way to get there? Do they drop you off at the base of the bridge and you walk to the viewing platform? Thank you.

We booked our hotel for our October cruise back in January, glad we did now. The price has tripled! We got it for 119/night and today I checked one of the travel.com sites and they have it listed for 397/night for the same King bed room we booked for 119. So it's never too early to grab a good rate, this was for a 4.5 star hotel.

The most convenient place to see the Oasis (or any ship) sail away is the top of the 17th St bridge which is one block from your hotel. There's a viewing platform that hangs out over the water and you're out of the way of sidewalk traffic. The ship sails from Terminal 18 and then has to swing to face east to exit the channel. At that time you will have a perfect side angle for your picture taking and you'll be far enough from the ship to get it all in one picture.

The general area around is quite safe but if you walk westbound I suggest you do not pass SE 10th Ave as there is nothing touristy over there. If you want to go downtown (200 blk of SW 2nd St-bars and restaurants, docks etc..) it's only about a $8 cab ride. There is a GREAT italian restaurant next to the hotel called Bravo Italiano and their lunch prices are mostly under $10 and the food is very good. Dinners are mostly under $20. It's a must do. For excellent seafood go to Kelly's Landings, one block north of SE 17th St on Cordova. It's the endcap of the shopping center.

For personal items, betteries etc... do NOT go to the Walgreens across from your hotel as it is very expensive. There is a Publix supermarket one block south of 17th St on Cordova as well as more restaurants.

Lastly, if you take a cab anywhere make sure the driver turns the meter ON and it reads under $3 at start-up. If they say there is a flat rate then firmly state "Flat rates are not allowed, now turn the meter on or show me your Hack License!" He'll then turn the meter on. NOTE: When being picked up INSIDE Port Everglades there is a $10 minimum as required by law. They are supposed to still turn the meter on but if it reads under $10 at the destination they are allowed to still charge you $10. There's a sticker on the rear cab windows that explain this."

Thanks so much for the information. I appreciate it.

I am a big seafood lover and the DH is all about steaks, does the seafood place you mentioned do surf and turf?

Also...is there a beach area nearby? The DH and I love to walk and before our last cruise put in a good 5 mile one way hike just to go to the Cocoa Beach pier for dinner...was good to 'walk it off' afterwards...but the walk was along the beach, so it was that much better!

  10. Sorry if someone has already answered this elsewhere in this thread...as it's well over 110 pages I didn't read ALL of it.[since I'm sitting here at work right now...]..:D.

We will be staying at the 17th st Renaissance Marriott in October before our Allure cruise...just looking for any information about the surrounding area as we'll be there two days before the cruise and one after. Where's the best place to go to see the Oasis setsail? Any info is welcome...:)

  11. I haven 't but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night...

    ROTFL...

    good one!

    and we're...Still waiting...{Michael Jordan...is an exception of course}

The FOS cruise we were on last Nov had several team members from Cincinnati Reds Baseball team...I wouldn't know them if they fell in my lap on my pool chair! haha...I could have been standing in the elevator with half the team and never have known it!;)

  12. I just uploaded the WW bar scanner on my Iphone. WOW what a great tool. I went over to the grocery store and anything I was concerned about I just scanned the ar code and it told me what the points are. If I wanted it I could even upload it into my daily tracker or just save it in favorites. I makes shopping wasy easier for things your not sure if you could have them. It even had Wal-Mart brand Non-Dairy creamer in it's database.

LOVE that app!!! so far it's helped me get rid of 15 pounds....and I still have about 8 months to go!!
