  1. Sorry, but people who do not want to know details shouldn't be reading this thread anyhow. It's only right that people know what the numbers were so they can be forewarned and request another room. If they prefer to live in the dark then they should stay off of the internet in general. (especially CC where details of anything imaginable is posted)

btw- it is public knowledge, like it or not.

Thank you! Knowledge is wealth. CA real estate sellers are required to inform buyers if there has been a murder in a home they're selling. In our 30 cruises with Princess we've never experienced a murder. This is a major tragedy for all of us as past cruise passengers, Princess and cruise staff.

A murder was never addressed at any required safety group meeting. Perhaps it should be now. What to do when we hear fighting, see spousal abuse or hear screaming.

  2. Reading this has been chilling. If children witnessed this crime, they are going to something to deal with forever.

Not a time for jokes about the coffee. Thank you for the reporting for the cruisers on the Emerald. It has to be a terrible experience. God help them all.

One of their three teen girls went screaming from the crime scene for help. This murder has affected me greatly, such as yourself. In all of our 30 cruises with Princess we've never experienced a murder aboard ship. Suicides, deaths, medical emergencies are all part of cruising with Princess....but never a murder. When tragedy strikes grief remains until a spot of laughter.....my husband and I enjoyed and laughed out loud for the first time since the murder after reading the comment about the coffee. We needed that and are thankful for it.

  3. Hello, my husband and I are new to cruising; and this is our first message at CruiseCritic. We are so sorry to hear of the death aboard the Emerald Princess. Deepest condolences to this family for their loss.

We are booked on board the Emerald in about 5 weeks for our very first cruise together. I was in the process of registering here so that we could chat with everyone, when this sad story appeared on CBS National News with Anthony Mason. :( It is a nationwide, if not worldwide story. It would have been the trip of a lifetime for us; but it is important to remember that there is really no escape from reality, and people bring their troubles and real-world problems on board with them.

    With sadness, from EastBay Cruisers

Hi! We're in the same Bay Area! We're in Martinez. Yes, I saw the murder news on Channel 5 and 7 at 6pm and 11pm on Thursday after it happened on Tuesday. We read the Contra Costa Times and to date the murder has not made the newspapers :( We have never had a murder on any of our 30 cruises with Princess over the past 20 years.

Go, have fun on your first cruise. You will have a wonderful time! We leave soon for 30th Princess cruise on the Crown...flying SFO to London, sailing 17 days Southampton to NYC via Canada!

  4. Buy 100 shares of Carnival stocks and get an OBC every time you sail!

This was suggested to us by recent past cruise passengers and dear hubby said it was a great idea until I told him stock is currently in the $60+ so 100 shares would cost more than $6,000.

  5. Nooooooo.....you and 5,000+ other cruise passengers (3,500+ off the Regal) plus many thousands of passengers from the other cruise ships docking and debarking the same morning hours along with you all going to the same airport. Sigh....it is a hot mess embarking and debarking in Florida. It's one of the worst for getting off and off a cruise ship. Once off the ship in FLL just this April, on our shuttle it was a logger jam just inching along to get out of the parking que of many venicles! Your best bet is to book a flight from noon onward....Happy sailing! Let us know how clearing customs on the ship worked for you. People were passing out and medics were being called for having to stand in a long, very hot line to clear customs on the Regal in 2015.

ps....I'm will work to learn how to fix this Sailed thingie of when we sailed Venice to Florida which was 10 cruises ago. :)

  6. TV news reports the homicide victim was a 39year old (very pretty) wife and mother of three teen girls, a real estate agent. Husband is in custody, family is from southern Utah. They were on a cruise to celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary with 8 other family members in their party. Husband's excuse....'she would not stop laughing at me'...then stated as the FBI cuffed him and led him away....'my life is over'. So sad for their three teen daughters.

  7. Go, have fun! We've done many reposition cruises. Europe to Florida is fine. My husband suffers from motion sickness (I don't) so we book mid to back of the ship high up, inside cabin. Perfect for us because we're always out and about enjoy the many Princess activities!

  8. Princess states on major tv news stations and in our newspapers that they are back on schedule after their unscheduled stop in Juneau.

If they don't get the two rooms in order by time of your sailing this weekend they would not assign these rooms to anyone until in perfect condition. This is not the first death for any cruise ship. It's the first murder for Princess on their Alaska cruises. More than not, on every one of our cruise someone is taken off in a gurney, covered. Usually old people; we've never seen a murder leave the ship. I thought that happened only on Carnival (I watch alot of Dateline on OWN)....just saying.....I think Princess will give you a wonderful cruise next week! Our favorite cruise line!

I feel great sympathy for all 12 members of the family on this cruise for the couple's 18th anniversary. How sad their three daughters now have lost both their mother and father.
